A fascinating period novel by the best-selling author of
Isolde’s Dream and Other Stories.
Set in early 20th century India, this is a story of the struggles of a woman of extraordinary strength and character
living in a conservative society during a period of intense
cultural and political change.
The subtitle is ironical, because the woman’s life is anything but ordinary.
The Reverend James Biddle loves good books and traditional values, fearing the brave new digital world and
the interweb. He’s thirty-six. He fights modernization.
Fights and fails to stop his own St. Matthew’s Anglican
Church from holding a U2charist (a very real, very awkward phenomenon) to attract younger parishioners.
When he meets Melissa Wembley, a red haired hipster,
it’s love at first sight. Too bad she’s betrothed to another
and James will be officiating. But when his thirteen-yearold goddaughter, Jo-Marie, runs away to escape her violent father, Melissa is eager to assist James in a desperate
search. As she helps navigate the online missing person
pages and the gritty Pacific Northwest streets, James discovers that Melissa, like him, seeks redemption for past
mistakes now impossible to ignore.

The Siberian Odyssey of Hans Schroeder is the ironic and
tragic story of a young German mesmerized by the Hitler
Youth aura who finds himself on the Russian front where
he is taken prisoner.
Years later, he is released from his Siberian prisoner-ofwar camp and eventually emigrates to Massachusetts,
and leads what appears to be an exemplary family life.
And, then, he commits the gruesome crime of a double
murder. During the course of his trial, his past experiences are exposed under psychiatric investigations,
experiences that bring to light the dramatic events Hans
was a part of while a prisoner. Based on a true story.
By the author of Krishna: A Love Story, Rahul: A Different
Love Story, The Gospel According to Clarence Thomas, and
The Acts of the Compassionates.

(Tome 1)
Tired of love’s collateral damages, four young women
decide to found a secret sisterhood, which is supposed to
limit the risks of romantic dependence and heartbreak.
As a result of this, no member of the sisterhood can pursue a formal relationship without the others’ consent,
and all potential mates must be approved by the entire
group. How will Mali, Cori, Gen and Sacha remain true
to themselves and live up to their dreams and aspirations
while abiding by the rules of their pledge?
Hilarious, sometimes moving, but never monotonous, all
six books of the happily named Chick Lit series explore
the lighter side of love, romance and celibacy, with four
charming girls we would all want to have as best friends.
Total sales of more than 100,000 have made this series
the very first step leading to Amélie Dubois’ crowning as
the queen of chick lit in quebec.

Three young teachers travel to the paradise beaches of
Cancun, in Mexico, enjoying an all-inclusive package
trip. Total failure ensues!
Little did Caroline, Vicky and Katia know they would
experience seven outrageous days and nights: lewd
behavior, awkward encounters and shameful awakenings… What sounded at first like an easy-going vacation
ends up so disastrous the girls solemnly swear, hand
over heart, that whatever happened in Mexico will forever stay in Mexico!
Nantes 1484.
univers paisible bascule brutalement.
bel amant ?
But how bad could things have possibly turned? As
we travel with them throughout a side-splitting chain
of terrible events, we cannot help but feel the awkwardness, shame and hilarity of a getaway to remember…
or to forget!
An instant classic, crazy comedy that sets new standards
for humour.
Topping all best-seller charts in 2013, with sales in excess
of 65,000, it is a ground-breaking success in quebec.

Description du mal-être dans les banlieues monotones,

Coming home one day, Wahhch Debch finds his wife
murdered, a knife thrust between her legs, and into the
child she was carrying. A wild manhunt ensues, a furious interior odyssey that will lead him to the bowels of
hell. The murderer’s name is Nelson Wolf Rooney. He’s
an American Mohawk hiding in the Indian reservation of
Kahnawake, a dangerous criminal involved in all sorts
of dark business.
As the police investigation deepens, Wahhch begins to
recall fragments of long-forgotten memories of his own
childhood, which will return him to the camps of Sabra
and Chatila, all the way under the earth, to the heart of
damnation. The author of Incendies has a writer’s instinct
for delving into his own darkness.
Through its ambition, tone and accomplishment, Anima
expands the borders of literature.

Frieda Zweig is at an impasse. Behind her is a string of
failed relationships and the half-forgotten ambitions of
being a painter; in front of her lies the dreary task of finding a real job and figuring out what “normal” people do
with their lives. Then, a classified ad in the local paper
introduces Frieda to Gladys, an elderly woman who long
ago gave up on her dreams of being a dancer. The catch?
Gladys is a ghost.
Judith is an inexperienced young nurse when she’s hired
to work in a cosmetic surgery clinic. The young lady soon
realises that cosmetic care is not the only specialisation
of the clinic…
With the help of her employer and colleagues, Judith will
discover some unprecedented pleasure, and her sex life
will broaden to unexplored horizon.
Reality and fantasy are mixed in this luscious book, for
the great pleasure of the reader.
In Dance, Gladys, Dance, Cassie Stocks tells the uplifting story of a woman whose uncanny connection with a
kindred spirit causes her to see her life in a new way—as
anything but ordinary.

This haunting, emotionally resonant story delivers us
into the world of Alice, a single mother raising her three
young daughters on the rez where she grew up. Alice has
never had an easy life, but has managed to get by with
the support of her best friend, Gideon, and her family.
When an unthinkable loss occurs, Alice is forced onto a
different path, one that will challenge her belief in herself
and the world she thought she knew.
July 29, 1916. In the woods of Northern Ontario, the
flames are rising. On that day, the young Boychuck will
narrowly escape death, forever scarred by the sight of his
homeland in ashes. Decades later, a photographer takes
interest in the survivors of the Great Fires that ravaged
the province at the beginning of the twentieth century,
venerable old hermits living deep in the woods, still prizing their freedom.
The Evolution of Alice is the kaleidoscopic story of one
woman’s place within the web of community. Peopled
with unforgettable characters and told from multiple
points of view, this is a novel where spirits are alive,
forgiveness is possible, and love is the only thing that
matters.
A story of survival and dignity, a shining demonstration
that love, hope and the desire to be free do not wither
with age.

As Grant demonstrates, quite apart from furnishing a
highly revealing self-portrait of their author, van Gogh’s
letters are compelling for their imaginative and expressive power, as well as for the perceptive commentary
they offer on universal human themes.
Through a subtle exploration of van Gogh’s contrastive
style of thinking and his fascination with the notion of
imperfection, Grant illuminates gradual shifts in van
Gogh’s ideas on religion, ethics, and art. He also analyzes the metaphorical significance of a number of key
images in the letters, which prove to yield unexpected
psychological and conceptual connections, and probes
the relationships that surface when the letters are viewed
as a cohesive literary product.
The result is a wealth of new insights into van Gogh’s
inner landscape.

A systematic overview of the major issues, trends, and
areas of priority in online distance education research.
In each chapter, international experts provide an overview of one timely issue in online distance education,
summarizing research, discussing theoretical insights,
posing questions and directions for future research, and
discussing the implications for distance education practice as a whole.
Intended as a primary reference and guide for distance
educators, researchers, and policymakers, aspects of
distance education practice that have often been marginalized, including cost and economics, concerns surrounding social justice, cultural bias, the need for faculty professional development, and the management and
growth of learner communities are addressed
At once soundly empirical and thoughtfully reflective,
yet also forward-looking and open to new approaches to
online and distance teaching, this text is a solid resource
for researchers in a rapidly expanding discipline.

Strategic Nonviolent Power proposes that the route to
what Gandhi described as the “undreamt of and seemingly impossible discoveries” of nonviolent resistance is
the application of rigorous science.
Mattaini’s application of ecological science grounded in
the science of behaviour brings exceptional power to the
struggle for justice and liberation. At a time when civil
resistance is actively reshaping global political realities,
the science of nonviolent struggle deserves the attention
of the scientific, activist, strategic, military, spiritual, and
diplomatic communities, as well as the informed public.
“I don’t know of another study that does what this one
does—apply a new theoretical framework to nonviolent
resistance, synthesize existing material, and provide
numerous illuminating examples from history—in a single book.” -Erica Chenoweth, Why Civil Resistance Works:
The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict.

In Teaching Crowds, Dron and Anderson introduce a new
model for understanding and exploiting the pedagogical
potential of Web-based technologies, one that rests on
connections—on networks and collectives—rather than
on separations.
Recognizing that online learning both demands and
affords new models of teaching and learning, the authors
show how learners can engage with social media platforms to create an unbounded field of emergent connections. These connections empower learners, allowing
them to draw from one another’s expertise to formulate
and fulfill their own educational goals. In an increasingly networked world, developing such skills will, they
argue, better prepare students to become self-directed,
lifelong learners.

This book seeks to present a perception that is new and
different from anything that has been written to date.
Lise Bourbeau uses an unprecedented approach that is
based on the thousands of cancer stories she has heard
over these last thirty years. Through this book and the
many experiences shared in it, Lise Bourbeau offers you
only gentle methods that do not involve struggle, because
fighting demands so much energy that it leaves none for
anything else.
Cancer is not an inevitable fate but rather a message
aimed at helping you recover happiness and inner peace.
Cancer seen this way becomes an opportunity for transformation and for loving yourself. Liberate yourself from
the control this word has over you and transform it into
a springboard for inner peace.

Climbing Mount Everest is one of mankind’s greatest
feats of human endurance. The gruelling expedition to
the top of the world’s highest peak is filled with unparalleled physical and mental challenges.
Fleeing the Hijab vividly portrays the dangerous journey
made by two teenaged women through the Iranian desert
to Pakistan, where, as homeless refugees, they struggled
desperately to find some way to escape to the West.
In 2008, Alan Mallory and his family became the first
family of four to set foot on the summit. It was a journey
filled with emotion, loyalty, boldness and terror. From
staggering across ladders spanning bottomless crevasses
and fighting altitude-related sicknesses to climbing
through a blizzard in the dead of night and almost losing
two family members’ lives, every segment of the climb
was an exhilarating adventure.
The Ayatollah Khomeini had decreed that all women in
Iran must wear the hijab, whether they were Muslim,
Jewish, Christian, or Bahá’í. Thirteen-year-old Sima had
gone out into the streets of Shiraz to demonstrate for freedom from the Shah’s oppressive rule, and now that he
had fled the country, this was the result: a new regime,
and much more dangerous oppression.
Richly illustrated with photos from the expedition and
other outdoor exploits, this book is an engaging adventure story that also highlights the lifestyle and family values that prepared the Mallory family for success. Their
unique journey has mesmerized and inspired families
and individuals around the world and this book brings
the adventure to life in a whole new way.
The regime changes forced on the population were totally
incompatible with Sima’s ambitions and sense of personal freedom. Blacklisted by her school, unable to continue her studies, mourning the loss of innocent family
members and friends murdered by the new regime, and
forced to wear the hijab, she realized she had to leave her
beloved birthplace and find a country where she could be
free to follow her dreams.

This hilarious story opens with a meeting in a hotel room
in Miami, Florida. When eight intrepid travelers, brought
together by marriage and with retirement in common, sit
reminiscing about their travel experiences, the memory
banks open and humorous events start to spill out.
Cowboy Ron, Ed the Negotiator, Joke-a-Minute Jim,
and Practical Carol are part of the motley crew that
experiences skiing mishaps, malfunctioning airplanes,
a near fistfight on a cruise ship on the azure seas of the
Caribbean and trying to explain ice hockey to some
African children. The author balances many more
challenges of travel with vivid descriptions of visits to
exotic locales and philanthropic activities to help the less
fortunate around the world.
Who would think a young woman studying nursing from
a family that loves to eat, would nearly die because of
her battle with an eating disorder (ED). This is an inner
look at what goes on in the mind of a starving anorexic
to help readers understand why recovery is such a difficult journey.
Written in a light-hearted way, using plenty of food-based
puns, Recipe for Recovery is honest and sincere. Marina
addresses ED issues that aren’t normally discussed such
as why a calm person can become violent as part of the
resistance to recovery, and why ED patients are in denial,
refuse to eat, and are afraid of gaining weight. Citing the
latest research, Marina explains how those living with
ED can find the strength to recover.
This is an exhilarating read!
Recipe for Recovery will help caregivers, friends, and professionals learn why ED is so difficult to overcome, how
to support victims with ED, and how to stay sane during
the entire journey. Marina’s message is clear: recovery is
possible.

Conrad Kain is a titan amongst climbers in Canada and is
well-known in mountaineering circles all over the world.
His letters to Amelie Malek—a life-long friend—offer a
candid view into the deepest thoughts of the Austrian
mountain guide. The 144 letters provide a unique and
personal view of what it meant to immigrate to Canada
in the early part of the twentieth century.
Kain’s letters are ordered chronologically with annotations. Historians and mountain culture enthusiasts
worldwide will appreciate Kain’s genius for description,
his passion for nature, his opinions, and his musings
about his life.
Gifford’s invigorating work of metacriticism and literary
history recovers the significance of the “lost generation”
of writers of the 1930s and 1940s. He examines how the
personalism of anarcho-anti-authoritarian contemporaries such as Alex Comfort, Robert Duncan, Lawrence
Durrell, J.F. Hendry, Henry Miller, Elizabeth Smart,
Dylan Thomas, and Henry Treece forges a missing link
between late modernist and postmodernist literature.
He concludes by applying his recontextualization to four
familiar texts by Miller, Durrell, Smart, and Duncan, and
encourages readers to re-engage the lost generation using
this new critical lens.

After 15 years as a sled dog racer, Dave Olesen turned
his focus away from competition and set out to fulfill a
lifelong dream. Over the course of 4 successive winters
he steered his dogs and sled on long trips away from his
remote Northwest Territories homestead, setting out in
turn to the four cardinal compass points—south, east,
north, and west—and home again to Hoarfrost River.
His narrative ranges from the personal and poignant
musings of a dogsled driver to loftier planes of introspection and contemplation. Olesen describes his journeys
day by day, but this book is not merely an account of his
travels. Neither is it yet another offering in the genre of
“wide-eyed southerner meets the Arctic” because Olesen
is a firmly rooted northerner, having lived and travelled
in the boreal outback for over thirty years. Olesen’s life
story colours his writing: educated immigrant, husband
and father, professional dog musher, working bush pilot,
and denizen of log cabins far off the grid.

Jennifer Katz’s first book, Teaching to Diversity, presented
the Three-Block Model of Universal Design for Learning
(UDL) as a model for inclusive education. In her second
book, Resource Teachers, she describes a fundamental
shift in the role of resource teachers—collaborating with
classroom teachers in inclusive classrooms. Dr. Katz discusses practical and innovative ways resource teachers
can partner with classroom teachers—by co-planning,
co-teaching, and co-assessing instruction using the
Three-Block Model of UDL. The author offers:
• A tiered system of intervention and collaboration that
describes a process for resource teachers working
alongside classroom teachers to guide programming
for students.
• Case studies and student examples that model a new
process for assessing student learning and behaviour,
and for developing IEPs and interventions in universally designed, inclusive ways.

This book, unlike any other on the market, tackles
the qualitative side of running, suggesting movements
adapted to the body’s mechanics, while taking into
account each person’s particular characteristics.
Its specific advice for improving running technique in
10 stages covers every aspect of the sport, from your
stride to your pace, and including posture, breathing and
arm and leg movements. This advice is accompanied
by clear explanations and sample photos, supplemented
by roughly a hundred specific exercises. The book also
includes guidelines for choosing shoes suitable for all
kinds of running; an illustrated section on common running injuries, how to avoid them and the best treatments;
and numerous training programs to prepare athletes for
running a range of distances.

This is the third title in Bayeux’s acclaimed imprint,
An Odd Little Book, bringing text and art by prominent
Canadian artists—musicians, painters, playwrights,
comedians, and puppeteers.
In this poetic tale by Nick Thran, winner of the 2012
Trilliam Book Award for Poetry, we have the sad story of
Hal, a lobster from Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a talent for
playing the guitar.
Maximilian leads a perfectly ordinary life until one day
his father contracts a mysterious illness. Before long his
mother and each of his six elder sisters are struck down
by the same malediction and with each passing day their
condition becomes more critical. To make matters worse,
Maximilian fears that the cause of his family’s misfortunes may be traced back to him and a single ghastly
mistake he made, a mistake that Maximilian fears may
lead not only to his family’s but ultimately his own tragic
demise.
All Hal wanted was “to be remembered as a noble lobster...”.

This is the second title in Bayeux’s award-winning
imprint, An Odd Little Book, bringing together text and
images by prominent Canadian artists—musicians, playwrights, painters, comedians, puppeteers and the like.
Exquisitely illustrated by Hank Pine, this poetic tale by
award-winning Victoria, B.C., playwright and director
Jacob Richmond, Polly Perfect and the Tragic Fart is a
hilarious cautionary tale about that most human of all
characteristics: embarrassment.
The poem also tackles the hubris that often follows
pride.
The Umbrella is Bayeux’s first title in the series An Odd
Little Book, and was honoured with a Governor General’s
Prize shortlist.
This outstanding series brings together text and images
from prominent members of Canada’s arts community—
playwrights, musicians, visual artists, poets, puppeteers,
and what have you.
The Umbrella is a poetic story of love, love lost, and love
regained. What makes it unique is that the unspoken love
is between an umbrella and its owner. Jealous tongues
try to belittle the bonds of love by suggesting there can
be no love between a man and an inanimate object like
an umbrella. But that is not true, even when the ‘object’
has lost its intrinsic quality. There is a special process
called transformation.
Judd Palmer is a celebrated artist, dramatist, poet, and
puppeteer.

Zack receives hockey equipment that improves the quality of his play, as it did the numerous generations of players who wore it before him.
The six book series of the adventures of Zack Laflamme,
captain of the Rocketville Sharks, will enable young players and fans to discover and be inspired by Zack’s passion
for hockey, whether it is played on an outdoor ice surface
or inside an arena. Even though the main character has
magical equipment, this series presents adventures that
can be experienced by everyone. Written in a lively style,
mixing sensibility and humour, every book will make
the reader reflect on ethical questions. Three more books
will be published in this series.
Intergenerational, family, friendship, team spirit, tradition and legends and the importance of team play, are
the themes.

Nuptse and Lhotse are back for another marvellous
adventure! When Mrs. Jasper, a very large grizzly bear,
loses her twin cubs Yoho and Kootenay, she needs
Nuptse and Lhotse to help her find them.
In a land full of mountains, the cats will need to follow
clues and their imagination to find out where these cubs
have gone. As they make their way through the landscape, the cats will learn what makes the mountain lakes
turquoise, what the fastest way to get down a couloir is,
what not to do when you are in a canoe, how to cross an
icefield and why bringing your most favourite thing on
an adventure might just save the day.
Nuptse and Lhotse Go to the Rockies is a colourful, illustrated story for adventurers of all ages who dream of
playing in high-up places.
A traveling artist takes the reader through a collection of
illustrations of fantastical hybrid creatures.
Beloved illustrator Wallace Edwards (Uncle Wally’s Old
Brown Shoe) invites us into the world of Professor I.B.
Doodling, a traveling artist who takes suggestions from
schoolchildren in order to create fantastical hybrid animals. The result of these visits is Unnatural Selections,
a collection of magnificent beasts, from the stately
Whalephant to the talented Lizabouboon.
Sure to inspire the imagination, Wallace Edwards’s intricate illustrations invite you to pore over them again and
again. A supplementary index lists additional creatures
to spot throughout the book’s pages, encouraging readers
to go back for a second, and a third, look.
