Ce qui se passe au Mexique
reste au Mexique !
Clearwater
By Carl Leblanc
By Amélie Dubois
By Kim McCullough
Investigative
journalist
François
Bélanger finds the Second World War
barrelling into his life on two separate
occasions. First the alleged war
criminal “Krylenko” found hiding in a
quiet neighbourhood; then the curious
artifact displayed in a showroom of
the Holocaust Museum: a wish book
prepared by a group of young women
in the dark hours of December 1944, a
birthday present intended for a fellow
inmate by the name of Klara Kowalski.
Three young teachers travel to the
paradise beaches of Cancun, in
Mexico, enjoying an all-inclusive
package trip. Total failure ensues !
Claire Sullivan struggles to overcome
loss and dislocation, in order to reconnect with the central people in her
life and restart her emotional growth
in this powerful coming-of-age novel.
Claire’s move to Northern Manitoba
is made easier when she meets Jeff,
the quiet loner next door. They spend
countless hours wandering the wilderness, forging a fast and firm friendship. But underneath the deceptive
calm of her new life, darkness lurks.
Claire’s sister is slipping under the
waves of depression, while Jeff has
his own troubles to deal with at home.
Two shocking acts of violence converge, forcing Claire and Jeff apart,
until the time comes when, together,
they must face the past.
Artéfact
Possibly for the first time in his career,
Bélanger is actually affected by the
investigation. Where does the book
come from? Who were these women?
And is the story as comforting as
people have been led to believe? Did
it even really happen?
Little did Caroline, Vicky and Katia
know they would experience seven
outrageous days and nights… What
sounded at first like an easy-going
vacation ends up so disastrous the
girls solemnly swear, hand over heart,
that whatever happened in Mexico
will forever stay in Mexico !
Topping all best-seller charts in 2013,
with sales in excess of 65,000, it is a
ground-breaking success in Quebec.
Winner of the Prix du grand public
Salon du livre de Montréal / La Presse
in 2013.

Dollybird
Dreaming of Elsewhere
Every Happy Family
A Novel
Observations on Home
By Anne Lazurko
By Esi Edugyan
By Dede Crane
Housekeeper or whore? Twentyyear-old Moira, banished to the
bleak prairie landscape of southern
Saskatchewan in 1906, must come
to terms with her circumstances,
her pioneer environment, and her
employment as a “dollybird” with
a volatile young homesteader. The
term dollybird can designate either
housekeeper or whore, or both, in
the vocabulary of the Missouri-Coteau
region in 1906. The community is left
to draw its own conclusions. A saga of
birth, death, and the violent potential
of both man and the elements,
Dollybird explores the small mercies
that come to mean more than they
should under a prairie sky that waits,
not so quietly, for these characters
to fail.
Writing about belonging is not a
simple task. Esi Edugyan chooses to
intertwine fact and fiction, objective
and subjective in an effort to find out
if one can belong to more than one
place, if home is just a place or if it
can be an idea, a person, a memory,
or a dream. How “home” changes,
how it changes us, and how every
farewell carries the promise of a
return. Readers of Canadian literature,
armchair travellers, and all citizens
of the global village will enjoy her
explorations and reflections, as we
follow her from Ghana to Germany,
from Toronto to Budapest, from Paris
to New York.
Humorous and heartbreaking, Every
Happy Family explores the colourful
—and sometimes repurposed—fabric of the Wright family. The stories
mark turning points in the lives of the
individual family members, as well as
in their relationships with each other.
Married parents Jill and Les are the
warp of the Wright family tapestry—
Jill beginning to lose her mother while
Les is fighting medical problems of his
own. Each family member’s thread
unravels from the others, as older
son Quinn finds a dangerous way to
combat shyness, younger son Beau
seeks success and closure at boarding school, and adopted daughter
Pema explores her roots. Alone and
together, the Wrights crash along,
unable to give up on themselves or
each other…hard as they might try.

The Ghosts of Smyrna
Hôtel Princess Azul
I Guess We Missed the Boat
A Travel Memoir
By Loren Edizel
De Martine Turenne
By Barry Finlay
Aya Katerina, a neighbourhood in
Ottoman Smyrna at the end of World
War I. Through the eyes of Niko “the
Orphan” we see this neighbourhood
going about its ways. We meet Elena,
Niko’s aunt and talented artist; his
idiosyncratic uncle, Manolis the Greek
doctor who loves her; Nazim the
Turkish journalist who also loves her
and his grandmother who holds the
family together. As the War draws to a
close, these people await their fates as
the Greek armies invade from the west
and the forces of Ataturk from the
east. A story of love under impossible
circumstances and a novel about
growing up, this is also an account
about a people, a neighbourhood, and
a legendary city.
Tout est là dans cette nouvelle trilogie
follement distrayante : intrigue,
humour, situations cocasses et
réalistes, personnages hyperattachants
et dénouements inattendus. Enfin
une littérature légère, joyeuse et
rafraîchissante pour les femmes de
plus de quarante ans qui veulent plus
que la sempiternelle recherche du
prince charmant propre à la chicklit
traditionnelle !
This hilarious story opens with a
meeting in a hotel room in Miami,
Florida. When eight intrepid travelers, brought together by marriage and
with retirement in common, sit reminiscing about their travel experiences,
the memory banks open and humorous events start to spill out. Cowboy
Ron, Ed the Negotiator, Joke-a-Minute
Jim, and Practical Carol are part of the
motley crew that experiences skiing
mishaps, malfunctioning airplanes, a
near fistfight on a cruise ship on the
azure seas of the Caribbean and trying
to explain ice hockey to some African
children. The author balances many
more challenges of travel with vivid
descriptions of visits to exotic locales
and philanthropic activities to help the
less fortunate around the world. This
is an exhilarating read!

Il pleuvait des oiseaux
In Times Wanting
Je voudrais me déposer
la tête
By Jocelyne Saucier
By Kevin Morris
De Jonathan Harnois
July 29, 1916. In the woods of Northern Ontario, the flames are rising. On
that day, the young Boychuck will
narrowly escape death, forever scarred
by the sight of his homeland in ashes.
Decades later, a photographer takes
interest in the survivors of the Great
Fires that ravaged the province at the
beginning of the twentieth century,
venerable old hermits living deep in
the woods, still prizing their freedom.
A much-awaited visit from a former
love sets Berrin on a trajectory that
reaches over a decade back to both the
delights and traumas that had caught
them up in the Sierra Alta of Mexico.
Desires and doubts, memories and
dreams, bliss and horror, are revived
as they try to map out new lives for
themselves in a new world order where
roots and community, both rural and
urban, mirror the north/south divide
that still defines our world.
Réaction d’un jeune après le suicide
d’un de ses amis. Description du malêtre dans les banlieues monotones,

Just Pretending
Not Exactly a War Hero
The Extraordinary Adventures of
Alfred Mondou
De Simon Boulerice
By Lisa Bird-Wilson
By Ray Verdon
A deadbeat dad tries to reconnect
with his daughter after 22 years away.
A selfish poet has been scarred by
an upbringing that leaves him emotionally distant from his children and
spouse. A pot-smoking middle-aged
man undertakes a modest quest for
meaning following a brush with mortality. A fourteen-year-old girl struggles to come to terms with her feelings of abandonment. At the centre of
the stories are notions of identity and
belonging, and the complex relationships between children and parents,
both those who are real and those
who are just pretending.
Ray Verdon’s riveting tale makes you
want to laugh and cry, and question
history as he shines a light on Canada’s
Conscription Crisis and zombies—
men forced to serve as reservists to
defend Canadian shores during WWII,
and reviled because they didn’t go
over to the fighting fields. As Verdon
discovers, little was recorded about
their treatment. One zombie, Alfred
Mondou, is chased through Canada’s
three solitudes by police, military
and bounty hunters; Mondou goes
through more heroics than Indiana
Jones and Robin Hood. One pursuer,
Mac Gleason, learns about a secret
zombie network—will Mondou finally
get caught by a nosy old coot?
A debut short story collection which
explores the Métis themes of being
forsaken, lost, and trying to figure out
where one is supposed to fit in.

Oui, je le veux… et vite !
Résurrection
The Sixth String
Les Maudits, Tome 1
By Amélie Dubois
By Édith Kabuya
By John Owens
During a wedding party, Annie,
Stephanie and Jasmine take part in the
traditional bouquet toss, supposed to
determine the next bride-to-be. While
this innocent gesture nears catastrophe, the three girls become awardees
of an unexpected prize: a trip for two
in the Caribbean Islands. Following
a loud and drunken discussion as to
who should get to go, a singular challenge is set: the first one to become
engaged to her lover wins it all.
“What really happened the night
Vince saved me? I couldn’t tell you.
But I do know two things. I didn’t just
nearly die, I did die! By bringing me
back to life, Vince made me one of
the Damned, haunted forever by the
netherworld.” —Robin Gordon, 16
If your life were at stake, what would
you do to survive? How do you continue in the face of inconceivable
cruelty? Can you reconcile a thirst
for revenge with a plea for mercy?
Does love or art even matter? These
questions confront Nicholae, a gifted
Gypsy guitarist and the narrator of The
Sixth String as he tells of his reckless,
often bawdy adventures across Europe
leading to his entrapment in the Nazi
machine. A gripping tale of suspense,
a moving love story and a unique look
at the fate of more than half a million
Roma during World War II, the novel
is also a meditation on evil and, above
all, a tribute to the artistic spirit. The rules: None. The timeframe:
Three months. And the girls will show
no mercy to each other in order to be
the first to say “I do”.
A made-for-movie book all women
will adore! More than 25,000 copies
sold: a five-time bestseller in Quebec.

Le sort de Bonté III
Les Souliers de Mandela
Swedes’ Ferry
A Novel
De Alain Poissant
By Eza Paventi
By Allan Safarik
Illustrated by Frederic Remington
encore possible.
In this debut novel, the author deftly
depicts not only the African experience, but also the twists and turns of a
tumultuous inner journey, ultimately
proving that the more we know about
other people, the better we understand
our own identity. When a downcast
Fleur Fontaine arrives on the African
continent, she does so tentatively
and falteringly. She finds herself in a
country in the midst of rising from the
ashes, and in so doing she confronts
her own demons. Drawing her inspiration from Nelson Mandela, she learns
how to start anew and how to forgive.
As she moves forward along the long,
winding road to her freedom, she discovers that Mandela has left some
very big shoes to fill.
In May 1894, a solitary rider robs the
First National Bank in Bismarck, N.D.
of the Great Northern Railway payroll, and in the process kills the bank
manager. These events trigger a chain
reaction when the Railway’s owner,
James J. Hill, the financial mogul
known as the Empire Builder, calls
in the notorious Pinkerton Detective
agency. William Pinkerton unleashes
his sleazy henchman Jiggs Dubois to
recover the money and bring in the
head of the varmint who took it. A
host of other characters, both historical and invented, all play a part in
this picaresque tale that unfolds on
the stark landscape along the dangerous Canada/US prairie border at the
end of the 19th Century.

The ANIE
A Wonderland Cookbook
A math assessment tool that reveals
learning and informs teaching
By Linda Biasotto
Pierre A. Lamielle and Julie Van Rosendaal
(authors & illustrators)
By Kevin Bird and Kirk Savage
Sweet Life is a collection of short
fictions which not only entertain but
dramatize in alarming clarity the issues
of lives on the edge. The characters,
who range from preschool to elderly,
live anywhere from Vancouver Island
to northern Italy. Children struggle
with family problems; lonely women
make determined but not always wise
decisions about love; men and women
struggle against the twin enemies
of grief and trauma. Despite these
fraught circumstances, Sweet Life also
uses humour to infuse these stories
with compassion, lighting the way to
warmth and tenderness.
This delightful volume is the full text
of the original Alice’s Adventures in
Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, with
recipes and photographs by Julie
Van Rosendaal and new, full-colour
illustrations by Pierre A. Lamielle. The
assortment of inventive recipes in this
book is inspired by characters and
events from the original story. There
is also a special tea-party section
inspired, of course, by the famously
chaotic and surreal Mad Hatter’s Tea
Party. Whether this book is for a
child’s dreamy tea-party or a grownup’s costume-fantasy event or a
creative afternoon in the kitchen, Alice
Eats will delight, entertain and inspire.
The ANIE (Assessment of Numeracy in
Education) is a teacher-developed tool
that uses numeracy and performance
standards to assess student understanding of math concepts, and plan
timely and targeted intervention
where it is needed most. This simple
book introduces a single-page assessment template that encourages
students to tell stories to explain math
problems and helps them recognize
the relevance of math in the real
world. The book describes a stepby-step process for solving any math
question, offers proven techniques for
introducing the assessment template,
and suggests easy ways to grade
and interpret the results, along with
student samples to illustrate the ANIE
in action.

A Book of Hope
Racism, Trauma and Resistance in

Edited by Paul Bowles and Henry Veltmeyer
By Lise Bourbeau
Illustrated by Monica Shields
By Sheila Cote-Meek
The Answer Is Still No is an important,
urgent book that compiles interviews
with people who live along the route
of the proposed Enbridge pipeline in
Northern British Columbia. The oil
pipeline and supertankers will link the
tar sands of Alberta to the demand of
the growing Asian market. This edited
collection takes the passionate words
and voices of twelve citizens and
activists and results in one powerful
position when it comes to blind economic development at the expense of
our environment and communities:
The answer is still “no.”
This book seeks to present a perception
that is new and different from
anything that has been written to date.
Lise Bourbeau uses an unprecedented
approach that is based on the
thousands of cancer stories she has
heard in her career. Through this book
and the many experiences shared in it,
Lise Bourbeau offers you only gentle
methods that do not involve struggle,
because fighting demands so much
energy that it leaves none for anything
else. Liberate yourself from the control
this word has over you and transform
it into a springboard for inner peace.
Sheila Cote-Meek discusses how
Aboriginal students confront narratives of colonial violence in the postsecondary classroom, while they are,
at the same time, living and experiencing colonial violence on a daily basis.
Basing her analysis on interviews with
Aboriginal students, teachers and
Elders, Cote-Meek deftly illustrates
how colonization and its violence are
not a distant experience, but one that
is being negotiated every day in universities and colleges.

Double Pregnant
Two Lesbians Make a Family
Heal Your Wounds and Find
Your True Self
De Jacqueline Lagacé, Ph. D.
By Natalie Meisner
By Lise Bourbeau
Double Pregnant is author Natalie
Meisner’s light-hearted, poignant and
informative true story of two lesbians
who want to have children. For a
variety of reasons, the couple decides
not to take the anonymous sperm
clinic route. Taking matters into their
own hands leads the couple to a
series of often-hilarious “dates” with
potential donors, all of whom have
wildly different opinions on how the
donation process should go and also
of what this new, twenty-first-century
version of a family will look like.
Meisner divides her time between
Canada and The Netherlands.
Internationally recognized best-selling
author Lise Bourbeau does it again
with Heal Your Wounds and Find Your
True Self. Bourbeau opens our eyes to
the five different emotional scars that
prevent us from being happy: humiliation, rejection, injustice, abandonment
and betrayal. Learn how to recognize
them and what to do to take control of
your life once and for all.

In Defense of Small
Producers
Listen to Your Body,
Your Best Friend on Earth
The Little Third Reich on Lake
Superior
A History of Canadian Internment Camp R
The Story of CLAC
By Marco Coscione
By Lise Bourbeau
By Ernest Robert Zimmermann
Edited by Michel S. Beaulieu and David K. Ratz
In an international geopolitical panorama where Northern countries are
increasingly in crisis and where the
most interesting alternatives to sustainable development are coming
from the South, the Latin American
small producers, represented by the
Latin American and Caribbean Network of Small Fair Trade Producers
(CLAC), are assuming a more protagonistic role in the defense of the
founding principles of the fair trade
movement. The CLAC is also leading
a process of rethinking the fair trade
system and launching concrete proposals to strengthen fair trade in local,
national and regional areas.
Lise Bourbeau takes you by the hand
and, step by step, leads you beyond
packing your own parachute. She
gives you the tools not only to fix
what’s going wrong in your life, but
also to build a solid foundation for
yourself. She helps you build an intimate, rewarding and powerful relationship with the most important person
in your life: Yourself.
For 18 months during World War II,
the Canadian military interned 1,145
prisoners of war in Red Rock, Ontario.
“Camp R” held an unlikely assortment
of German prisoners: Nazis, anti-Nazis,
Jews, soldiers, merchant seamen, and
refugees whom Britain feared might
comprise Hitler’s rumoured “fifth
column” of alien enemies residing
within the Commonwealth. For the
first time and in riveting detail, the
author illuminates the conditions
of one of Canada’s forgotten POW
camps. Written in an accessible, lively
style, The Little Third Reich on Lake
Superior will captivate military and
political historians as well as nonspecialists interested in the history of
POWs and internment in Canada.

Harmony? A new world order? Ideas
that challenge the status quo?
Nonfiction writing is important in a
student’s school life and is a skill that
they will use throughout their lives.
This remarkable book shows teachers how to help students recognize
that they write because they have
something to say. It argues that writing nonfiction well means considering
intent and purpose, and choosing the
most appropriate form among the
various nonfiction genres. Practical
and comprehensive, the book helps
teachers work with students to explore
their Writing Powers: to Describe, to
Instruct, to Compare, to Persuade,
to Explain, and to Report. Ideal
support for teaching writing in the
content areas, the book includes ways a
particular form can link to Science,
Social Studies, and other subject areas.
How does money and materialism
affect your spirituality, life, and your
world? Or does it?
If you are the least bit inquisitive or
interested in how money and materialism relate to politics, economics,
technology, military matters, business,
sociology, spirituality, nature and your
life, Meditations on Money: Balancing Life and the Global Economy has
woven together these disparate subjects into ten cohesively structured and
themed “meditations” that take you on
an enlightened journey of humanity’s
past 100 years and point to what’s on
the horizon in the twenty-first century.

Polar Bears
By Arnold Zageris
Sous la direction de Nathalie S. Trépanier
By Ian Stirling
Explore this rarely seen part of
Canada with Arnold Zageris as he
shares his personal journey across
this mysterious region through a
combination of photography and
personal essays. Zageris has been
travelling to Northern Labrador since
1984, sometimes alone, sometimes
with associates, to document the
harsh and stunning beauty of the
Labrador landscape, and the strength
of the people who reside within
its perimeters. His work has been
exhibited at the Canadian Museum
of Nature, the Robert McLaughlin
Gallery, The Rooms in St. John’s,
the Centre d’expositions in RouynNoranda, and the Canadian Museum
of Contemporary Photography.
No animal is more symbolic of the
Arctic than the polar bear. In the short
space of 150,000 years, it has evolved
from a grizzly bear into the most
specialized predator of the arctic sea
ice. Through behavioural, morphological, and physiological changes in
a remarkably short period of time,
the polar bear has become totally
adapted to living comfortably in one
of the harshest environments on the
planet. Yet, the survival of this unique
mammal is now threatened by global
climate warming.

Recettes gourmandes contre
la douleur chronique
Social Democracy After
the Cold War
Strategic Nonviolent Power
De Jacqueline Lagacé, Ph. D. Louise Côté,
Louise Labrèche, Jean-Marc Enderlin
et Kévin Bélisle
Edited by Bryan Evans and Ingo Schmidt
By Mark A. Mattaini
Offering a comparative look at social
democratic experience since the Cold
War, the volume examines countries
where social democracy has long been
an influential political force—Sweden,
Germany, Britain, and Australia—while
also considering the history of Canada’s
NDP, the social democratic tradition in
the United States, and the emergence
of New Left parties in Germany and
the province of Québec. The case
studies point to a social democracy
that has confirmed its rupture with
the postwar order and its role as the
primary political representative of
working class interests. Once marked
by redistributive and egalitarian policy
perspectives, social democracy has, the
book argues, assumed a new role—
that of a modernizing force advancing
the neoliberal cause.
Strategic Nonviolent Power proposes that the route to what Gandhi
described as the “undreamt of and
seemingly impossible discoveries” of
nonviolent resistance is the application of rigorous science. Although not
a simple science, Mattaini’s application of ecological science grounded in
the science of behaviour brings exceptional power to the struggle for justice
and liberation. At a time when civil
resistance is actively reshaping global
political realities, the science of nonviolent struggle deserves the attention
of the scientific, activist, strategic,
military, spiritual, and diplomatic
communities, as well as the informed
public.

Struggling Readers
The Time of Your Life
Why band-aids don’t stick and worksheets
don’t work
Everyone Has a Story
Le trouble du spectre
de l’autisme
By Lori Jamison Rog
By Gayle Leona Jabour and Daniel Tigner
Sous la direction de Nathalie Poirier et
Catherine des Rivières-Pigeon
The practical, classroom-tested reading
instruction strategies presented in this
insightful book are carefully chosen
to be effective with students in grades
3-9. More than temporary patches
on discrete skills, these thoughtful
strategies show teachers how to give
struggling readers what they really
need: teaching and texts targeted
to their needs; the opportunity to
read texts they can and want to
read; explicit instruction and guided
practice in comprehension; and, most
importantly, confidence in themselves
as readers, writers, and thinkers.
Struggling Readers is a valuable
resource that will help teachers use
guided reading strategies from the
early grades to reach those students
still struggling with the reading basics.
These uplifting stories focus on the
lives of forty people, aged fifty to the
late nineties, their life learnings, rich
experiences and what it is that makes
them who they are. They are filled
with humour, vignettes of history
lived, reflective of our multi-cultural
world and told by a group of people
who remain highly creative as they
deal with the social and psychological
issues that come with aging.
Neuf thèmes clés sont approfondis
dans cet ouvrage faisant l’état des
connaissances sur le trouble du
spectre de l’autisme : la nomenclature,
l’étiologie, la prévalence et le
diagnostic; les aspects liés à la santé
physique et psychologique; la famille;
les interventions à la petite enfance; les
milieux de garde éducatifs; le milieu
scolaire; les défis de l’adolescence;
la vie adulte; la reconnaissance des
droits, les lois, les politiques et les
orientations ministérielles.

Upgrading Oilsands Bitumen

Les 5 derniers dragons
By Murray R. Gray
De Danielle Dumais
Illustré par Mathieu Dandurand Caron
By Danielle Boulianne
The demand for petroleum products
necessitates ongoing innovation in the
science and engineering underlying
oilsands extraction and upgrading.
Beginning with a thorough grounding
in the composition, fluid properties,
reaction behaviour, and economics of
bitumen and heavy oil, Murray Gray
then delves into current processing
technologies, particularly those used
at full commercial scale. Tables of data
on composition, yield, and behaviour
of oilsands bitumen and heavy oil fractions are extensive. Though the focus
is on bitumen from Alberta’s oilsands,
the science applies to upgrading of
heavy oil and petroleum residue feeds
worldwide.

Joe and Cody are young Cree brothers who follow the caribou all year,
tucked into their dog sled with Mama
and Papa. To entice the wandering
herds, Joe plays his accordion and
Cody dances, whirling like a young
caribou. They are so busy playing
and dancing they don’t hear the rumble. Bursting from the forest, 10,000
animals fill the meadow. Joe is
engulfed; he can barely see Cody a
few yards away. Their parents seem
to have disappeared.
Alexane, Maïka et Laurie Lafontaine
sont trois sœurs qui se ressemblent,
mais qui sont aussi bien différentes.
Un jour, elles sont super copines; le
lendemain, elles s’insultent. Mais, au
final, elles s’aiment…
Violet is not big and strong enough to
cycle on a long ride with her father
and brothers but she would REALLY
like to. She has to find a way to build
up her muscles, otherwise, as one of
her brothers says, they’ll be soft as
mashed broccoli ! So Violet has to find
a way to strengthen her muscles... by
pedalling down the hallway, in the
rooms, in and out, all around until
she’s too tired to pedal anymore, even
to the park when she’s finally invited
to ride with everyone !

Jack and the Fairy
Dogmother
Jules sur la lune
Little You
By Tammie Winsor
Illustrated by Greg Money
De Paul Martin
By Richard Van Camp
Illustrated by Julie Flett
Jack is messy. Jack’s room is smelly.
Worst of all, Jack has bad manners
but Jack gets his birthday wish: an
adorable Dalmatian puppy. Scooter
becomes Jack’s world, and when
Scooter starts to lose his spots, Jack
becomes very worried. One night, the
Fairy Dogmother visits Jack to explain
that his bad habits and manners are
the cause of Scooter’s spotlessness.
As you read this delightful story for
3-7 year-olds, created by storyteller
Tammie Winsor and illustrator Greg
Money, your child will discover how
Scooter regains his spots with Jack’s
help.
Jules adore dessiner.
interstellaire. Ensemble, ils vont vivre
une aventure captivante sur le chemin
de l’inspiration. Un album original qui
amène le lecteur dans l’antichambre
de la création. On y retrouve un jeune
artiste confronté au syndrome de la
page blanche. L’auteur propose une
réflexion sur la naissance d’une œuvre
à travers un récit drôle et touchant.
Perfect for all the little ones and newborns in your life! Richard Van Camp,
internationally renowned storyteller
and bestselling author of the hugely
successful Welcome Song for Baby: A
Lullaby for Newborns, has partnered
with award-winning illustrator Julie
Flett to create a tender board book
for babies and toddlers that celebrates
the potential of every child. With its
delightful contemporary illustrations,
Little You is perfect to be shared,
read or sung to all the little people
in your life—and the new little ones
on the way! Also published in three
Aboriginal languages.

Ariel Laforce, la future coqueluche

qu’elle fréquente l’école nationale des
espions, une unité de formation d’élite
ultrasecrète, l’adolescente doit combiner questionnements d’adolescente

The Comic Book War
The Gift Is in the Making
Anishinaabeg Stories
La légende de Lezardo da
Vinci
La Renaissance
By Jacqueline Guest
By Leanne Simpson
Illustrated by Amanda Strong
By Daniel L. Moisan
It’s 1943 and World War II is raging.
15-year-old Robert Tourond is safe
at home in Canada, but his three
brothers are all overseas fighting the
Nazis. Robert follows the exploits of
his favourite comic book heroes who
also battle bad guys in the comics
Robert spends his allowance on. When
Robert finds a meteorite in a park near
his home, in the same week that a
meteorite features in his heroes’ stories
AND his brother sees one in Italy,
Robert is convinced a magical link exists
among them, and that the superheroes
will protect his brothers. Can Robert
and his heroes really protect all three
brothers and bring them home? What
will happen if reality comes crashing
into his world, like a meteorite falling
from space? Who will help then?
The Gift Is in the Making retells
previously published Anishinaabeg
stories, bringing to life Anishinaabeg
values and teachings to a new
generation. Readers are immersed in a
world where all genders are respected,
the tiniest being has influence in
the world, and unconditional love
binds families and communities to
each other and to their homeland.
Sprinkled with gentle humour and the
Anishinaabe language, this collection
speaks to children and adults alike,
and reminds us of the timelessness of
stories that touch the heart.
It is 1519. Humanity has just emerged
from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance is in full swing. A new world
is dawning—a world of science and
an insatiable hunger to learn. But the
forces of obscurity and dogma aren’t
about to yield their authority without
a fight. They know that knowledge
brings power. Power that has long
been theirs.

Picks and Sticks
Psycho Boys
De Francine Labrecque
By Michèle Muzzi
By Michel J. Lévesque
Que sait-on vraiment des anges
et des démons ? Appartiennent-ils
seulement au monde surnaturel ou
sont-ils ancrés dans le monde réel ?
C’est ce que découvriront Jared et
Gabriel le jour de leur dix-septième
anniversaire. Meilleurs amis depuis
Jane Matagov, a teen figure skating
sensation, finds herself on a collision
course with disaster when her dormant
passion for hockey is reignited during
an era when girls just didn’t play the
game in Picks and Sticks. Following
the 1972 Canada-Soviet Summit
Series, Jane befriends a defecting
Russian hockey coach and his
enigmatic daughter. Her reawakened
love for hockey—a sport she and
her brother, Mike, learned from their
father before his tragic death—puts
her rising skating career in jeopardy.
Jane’s mother can’t bear it, her coach
can’t take it, and her hockey-mad
Ontario town will never be the same.
They are twins, aged 18, and totally
unalike. Sydney and Ashley have one
thing in common: fascination with
a young gang of “villains / psycho
boys,” so-called because they are from
the “Patecal” generation. Patecal, a
drug launched on the market 20 years
earlier to reduce the risk of miscarriage, was responsible for the birth of
“soulless” human beings, a generation
of psychopaths. Though most of them
are registered, some are still on the
loose, notably the infamous Winter
Craine. Now the sisters’ father, whose
job is to capture these dangerous
predators, has caught Winter in his
grip, and decides to hold him captive
in the family home. Love, suspense,
and the fight between good and evil
are at the heart of this dark fantasy
trilogy for young adults.

Song of the Sword
The Shards of Excalibur, Book 1
By Amanda West Lewis
By Edward Willett
In July 1940, a British governmentsponsored program, the Children’s
Overseas Reception Board (CORB),
was set up to send children from
Britain to Canada and other Commonwealth countries to save them from
the bombing of British cities. The City
of Benares was a luxury liner recruited
in September 1940 to transport 90 of
these children to Canada, along with
the ship’s regular passengers. A convoy of ships including The Benares set
off from Liverpool in mid-September
and some 600 miles out, after the
naval escorts had withdrawn, the ship
was torpedoed by a German U-boat
and sank. Only 13 of the CORB children survived.
Everyone’s heard the myths and
stories about King Arthur, the Round
Table, and Merlin. But what if, as
Ariane discovers, those “myths” turn
out to be historical fact? And what if
someone has been carefully rewriting
that history?

In this first book of a new series,
modern life and ancient myths collide.
Ariane’s life is already pretty difficult.
Things get weird whenever she touches
water, and now someone, somewhere
is singing to her. Soon, she’s met the
famed Lady of the Lake — who turns
out to be an ancestor — has acquired
a nerdy sidekick, and is sent on a dangerous mission to reunite the pieces of
the fabled sword Excalibur. Can she
figure out what it all means, much less
survive the challenge?
