This international renown has been built on the diversity and quality of Lyon’s infrastructure, in which the Lyon Convention Centre plays a leading role. Beyond the quality of the facilities, the involvement of countless players also contributes to this growth surge: the city’s different economic partners are committed to the ONLYLYON approach to develop the city’s economy, its competitiveness, its international outreach and the quality of its welcoming capacity. These results reflect and sustain Lyon’s economic pull. This momentum is measured by many factors which cover the five competitiveness clusters labelled in 2006. The location of leading French research institutions (CNRS, INSERM) and global manufacturers (Sanofi Pasteur, bioMérieux, Boiron or Merial) testify to the thriving nature of the health sector. Traditional industry is keeping apace with major players in the chemical sector (Rhodia, Arkema, Bayer Cropscience, etc.) or in the automobile sector (Renault Trucks, Irisbus or Valeo), not to mention the well-established ICT sector (Atari or Electronic Arts), all of which boost the success and outreach of our economic fabric. International institutions give Lyon their stamp of approval Swayed by these assets, many international institutions have chosen the Lyon area as a base to set up and expand their renown: Interpol (headquarters of the International Criminal Police Organisation), IARC (the International Agency for Research on Cancer), the WHO (World Health Organisation) or Euronews. © FRANCOM - Photos : Armin Hess - Coop Himmelb(au) The Confluent Museum Lyon is essentially a city to be experienced, as confirmed by the sharp rise in tourism. Inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, Lyon also has a surprisingly modern slant with major town planning projects, such as Lyon Confluence which will ultimately triple the capacity of the city centre, and astonishing cultural diversity: international events are held throughout the year – the Festival of Lights, the Biennial Danse Festival, the Biennial Festival of Contemporary Art, Nuits de Fourvière and the Electronic Music Festival (Les Nuits sonores). Lyon is also synonymous with the tranquillity of living in a protected environment (Rhône banks, Parc de la Tête d’Or), the quality and range of its hotel facilities, the international reputation of its Michelin starred chefs and its gastronomy which make Lyon above all else, a lifestyle choice… For more information: www.lyon-france.com 09 THE Cité internationale OF Lyon AN EVENTS COMPLEX WITHOUT A COMPLEX D esigned by Renzo Piano, one of the world’s leading contemporary architects, the Cité internationale boasts almost a kilometre of bold facades in the northeast of Lyon, covering a surface area of almost 50 acres. Despite its modern look and its clean lines, the Cité internationale’s identity is strongly influenced by nature. Nestling between the Parc de la Tête d’Or and the Rhône, the site was designed and completed with an approach geared towards sustainable development and with special attention being paid to public areas and reduced energy consumption. Here the Lyon Convention Centre has found its home base where our teams share their expertise. Offering customers a real all in one event complex, we have gradually become one of the spearheads of business tourism in Lyon and have enjoyed steady growth, since opening, on all of our markets. Key figures 500 hotel rooms 14 bars and restaurants 100 companies 1 concierge service 1 museum 10 cinema theatres 1 casino 300 accommodation units 3 underground car parks with 3 350 spaces 260 acres of parkland Shops 11 LYON CONVENTION CENTRE AT THE CROSSROADS OF YOUR MEETINGS T o satisfy your different requirements, the Lyon Convention Centre has chosen diversity and modularity in the lay-out of its facilities. We therefore offer a customised choice of three amphitheatres of 300, 900 and 3,000 seats designed for plenary meetings, 8,400m2 of modular and multipurpose areas, committee rooms, catering areas and reception rooms, to name but a few of our facilities. Its size and originality mean that Lyon can now rival leading European cities in the world of conventions, such as Berlin, Prague or Barcelona, and offer facilities which live up to your ambitions. Renzo Piano, the architect, was keen to avoid partitioning the different areas (seats, stage, foyers, access, etc.). It is unique in its features combining the assets of a theatre, a sports hall and a stadium, lending itself well to alternating professional events – major conferences and conventions – and cultural performances - plays, one-man shows, classical concerts, etc. The rear of the Amphitheatre stage opens onto the esplanade; this means that a great many exterior/interior multi-purpose configurations can be imagined and participants move through an ever-changing environment. All these factors contribute to a remarkable venue in the tradition of innovative settings such as Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Madison Square Garden and the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy… For more information on the Amphitheatre: see our technical data sheet or www.ccc-lyon.com Parc de la Tête d’Or 15 33 22 Ring road 63 45 34 44 62 66 70 81 85 Inner concourse 70 Quai Charles de Gaulle 80 84 15 City Centre Rhône The numbers on the plan correspond to the address of the facilities.
