JUNE 2013 COMMERCIALLINKS A COMMERCIAL CUSTOMER NEWSLETTER HeliRussia 2013 Sikorsky Aircraft Shares History and Vision at HeliRussia 2013 Submitted by Stan Prusinski, Sikorsky Sales, Europe MOSCOW, Russia – Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. highlighted its 90th anniversary as well as the 100th anniversary of the “Le Grand,” during the HeliRussia trade show held May 16-18. Most people don’t know that Igor Sikorsky, before being forced to flee Russia after the Revolution of 1917, had already built a four-engine aircraft that made its maiden voyage in 1913. This is amazing because he took the technology so far, so quickly after the Wright Brothers’ first flight. During the HeliRussia trade show, Vadim Miheev, the authoritative biographer of Igor Sikorsky, drew a large crowd for his 15-minute technical presentation on the history, development, and flights of the Grand. The presentation was particularly memorable In This Issue because Igor Sikorsky had been lauded by Emperor Nicholas II when the emperor visited •Sikorsky continues sales the Grand and presented Igor with a gold, efforts in Mexico diamond-encrusted pocket watch honoring •China’s CITIC him for his achievement. The Grand was used Offshore Helicopter in World War I as a bomber fighting aircraft Company to acquire two S-92® helicopters against the Central Powers forces. Following Miheev’s presentation, Sergei Sikorsky, Igor’s son, delivered a presentation commemorating the 90th anniversary of Sikorsky Aircraft. In addition to the popular presentations, Sikorsky Aircraft personnel hosted static display demonstrations of the new Rig Approach feature now available on S-92® helicopters. General Directors of some of Russia’s biggest aviation firms visited the booth to observe the demo and learn about this latest technology development by Sikorsky. Also of great interest to visitors and customers was the news that Sikorsky Aircraft is moving forward on certification in Russia of the S-92 and, later, the S-76D™ helicopter. Attendance at the Sikorsky booth was very strong, and indeed, we were several times overwhelmed by real customers A Message to Our Customers representing the top companies in Russian aviation and indicating interest in the S-92 and the S-76D helicopters.
