We will ask Olympian to minimize the staining. Here are standard COF values for concrete finishes: Broom finished bare concrete floors: .60 to .70 Bare concrete, non broom finished floor: .55 to .60 Steel troweled, bare concrete, non broom finished floor: .50 to .55 If you want more information on what COF values means, read these links: http://www.safety-engineer.com/adasurfaces.htm 1 The article recommends we go further: “Researchers' recommendations for a static coefficient of friction for surfaces along an accessible route, when measured by the NBS- Brungraber machine using a silastic sensor shoe, were approximately 0.6 for a level surface and 0.8 for ramps. These values are included in the advisory material in the Appendix to ADAAG, but are not in any way mandatory.” The COF clarification extends to the polished concrete finish in the lobby, which will have less friction than the smooth finish on the stairs. There, Spec 033510 1.3B2 refers to the ADA standard. We should update that to specify the NFSI ANSI B-101 standard for “High Traction” floors. http://concretepolishingmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=147:polished-concrete-andslip-resistance&catid=9:featured-articles Give me a call if you want to discuss. They look pretty good. John reviewing the slip resistance of this as-cast concrete. The modeled concrete looks like it wears off over time. LMN's stairs has much less modeling then UW stairs. Less wii need to be the goal, even if we go in understanding it's not guaranteed. I'm waiting for John's slip resistant review. A couple photos are attached. 3 There are big spots which I would not want to see. The smooth finish didn’t seem excessively slippery to me. I think you need to step on the finish to evaluate how slippery it is. The alternate would be to add a light sandblast over the smooth portions.
