2016 Visitors Guide - Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce
2 Waterford Area Chamber Directory 2016 Welcome to the Waterford area! S outheastern Wisconsin in general is a great place to live, work and play for so many reasons. Each of the towns and villages in this special area of the map have something great to offer their residents, visitors, and businesses that not just anywhere on the map can boast about. Although we might be biased, we feel, here in the Waterford area, we are among the best around! For those of us that live here we have so many things right at our fingertips — we know it and love it! On behalf of the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce Board and members, we would like to welcome you to our special part of the state and give you a small glimpse of why we love it here. Want to catch a Brewers game? Downtown Milwaukee is only 35 minutes away! Maybe you want to enjoy our state’s beautiful natural resources — we have the Fox River flowing through the center of Waterford. Also, a couple of lakes that are within minutes of each other are Tichigan and Wind Lake. You can even hop on The Seven Waters Bike Trail that runs centrally through our communities. The trail is 17 miles long, from Muskego Lake south to Burlington. Residents utilize and enjoy this scenic trail on a daily basis to take a refreshing walk with a friend or an invigorating bike ride. It is a great way for visitors to experience our community from a different perspective. Waterford has a great highway system. Highway 20/83 and Highway 36 are the two main travel corridors that run directly through the area making it easy for visitors to find us, for businesses to grow and residents to get where they need to go. These main highway systems are important to commerce in our community. They allow for both the large businesses in the industrial park and the down- town businesses to ship and receive product or services efficiently and timely. They also allow visitors to see what the Waterford area has to offer while they are driving through to get to their destination. Visitors can take a quick break from travel to pick up a last minute gift, add ice to their coolers, grab a bite to eat or get a cup of coffee without having to veer from their route. Visitors passing through are able to support and patronize our local businesses. The Waterford area is an excellent place to raise your family. We have a school district that is rated as one of the top in the nation and have a variety of businesses around town to help with daily living. I would also like to point out our superior library and recreation departments that offer great programs for children, adults and senior citizens in our community. Through my many years of being a part of the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, I am proud of the strong relationships that have been built and continued with the many different organizations, member businesses, business owners, and volunteers. We come together to put on some really awesome events. If we didn’t have such great people that are part of this community these events would not be nearly so successful. A few of the organizations we work closely with are the Village of Waterford, Town of Waterford, Waterford School District, Lions Club of Waterford, and Absolutely Waterford all with the common goal of making our community a great place to be. I could keep talking about our special community but you should see it for yourself. Be sure to stop at the Chamber office where you will be welcomed with open arms and someone willing to direct you wherever you would like to go. Once again I would like to welcome you to our great community. Enjoy! Tina Multhauf, President of the Board Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce — Main front cover photo by Sue Benson. Lower three photos by Terry Alby. “My husband and I moved to Waterford 24 years ago. What attracted us to the area was that it had a small town feel, but had everything that the big city could offer. We have always supported the local community businesses; it gives us a sense of community. I have been an RN for over 35 years. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in business and a Masters in management. I enjoy volunteering for the Chamber because I love working with and meeting new people. I enjoy taking on new challenges and I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone. Volunteering my time, gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride in helping out our community. I also am a member of the Tichigan Lake Fireworks Committee.” -Lynn Bauman, Tichigan Lake Fireworks Committee Member lakecountrynow.com waterford-wi.org 3 Message from the Executive Director W elcome to the Waterford area “where business and community connect”. More than a dozen balloonists from around the nation gather for this genuinely unique event which is growing in stature. The Waterford Balloonfest is one of about 100 festivals that balloon enthusiasts from coast-to-coast know about, talk about, and vow to revisit each year. Held on the spacious Evergreen Elementary School Grounds, 817 W Main St, Waterford – with ample parking – the highlights of the fest include nightly "glows" Friday and Saturday evenings around dusk, and an early morning launch on Saturday with a farewell launch Sunday. Once you've witnessed a glow with your own senses, you're sure to make this an annual outing. The balloons' nylon envelopes are slowly filled with bursts of hot air... the flames not only make the dazzling colors of the fabric glow against the sky, but the gasfired burners produce a roar that defies description. An announcer cues the pilots with a countdown periodically throughout the evening so you know exactly when to snap that once-in-a-summer photo. Local establishments will offer delicious summer fare and non-alcoholic beverage. Hosted by the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, this event is run by many dedicated volunteers. All events are weather dependent so follow us on Facebook and Twitter for up to date event information. You can't miss this family-friendly weekend of color in the skies with activities for kids, inflatable amusements, delicious food, craft/vendor fair, helicopter rides, amateur photo contest and more! Come see balloon ascensions and majestic glows illuminating the night! Right here. In Waterford. To learn more about hot air ballooning, the festival, schedule of activities, lodging, and vendor space availability visit the chamber website www.waterford-wi.org. “I am a veterinary technician and the hospital administrator for Fox Valley Veterinary Service. With over 25 years of Mergers & Acquisition experience, our expertise lies in selling privately held businesses, divesting divisions or product lines, and conducting strategic acquisition searches. WSA offers customized buy-side & sell-side services and consulting for companies with $1-30 million in revenue.” -LeAnne Foster, Consultant, Water Street Advisors 12 Waterford Area Chamber Directory 2016 Check it out at the Waterford Library The Waterford Public Library is at 101 N. The organization was established to be a catalyst for economic development and historic preservation in the Village of Waterford’s unique downtown Heritage District. Volunteer Driven Absolutely Waterford is a nonprofit community organization. Volunteers focus their efforts on business, cultural, and social development in the Village. We believe in developing strong partnerships with all local organizations to leverage revitalization efforts. Volunteer membership has grown to over 60 individuals, with broad representation from Waterford area businesses, residents, civic groups and local government. There are over 100 businesses, civic groups, and individuals who have committed to help with revitalization efforts through in-kind gifts and financial support of Absolutely Waterford. Four-Point Approach Absolutely Waterford is organized around the National Main Street Four-Point Approach model. Under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors, four committees develop and implement the organization’s activities including: Economic Development to enhance and strengthen downtown businesses; Promotions to increase market image and develop events to draw people downtown; Design to develop appreciation for the Heritage District’s unique cultural and physical assets and implement beautification projects; and Organization which handles fundraising and 14 Waterford Area Chamber Directory 2016 volunteer development. “One of reasons I like to volunteer my time to the Waterford Chamber of Commerce is to build relationships. I have developed the best friendships and continue to grow my business at the same time. I love being a part of our community! It’s very rewarding to volunteer my time on the Ambassador, Spring Expo, Recognition Event and Hot Air Balloonfest committees. My husband and I started our business over 20 years ago in the basement of our first home. We have been blessed with a new studio on Main Street in Waterford.” -Kathy Kohl, Owner, KK Photography Photo by KK Photography Village as Social Center Although a relatively new organization, Absolutely Waterford has already established several annual community events, including a juried, fine arts River’s Edge Art Walk every October, the wildly popular Waterford Winter Wonderland Parade held at the beginning of December, and Absolut-Teas which take place whenever a supporter of Absolutely Waterford holds a tea to benefit our organization. In 2015, the Absolu-Teas garnered a “Best Volunteer Engagement” award from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The Antique Appraisal Fair is the organization’s major fundraiser each year. Professional appraisers are on hand to value precious objects and family heirlooms, while a variety of classes on repurposing and collecting antiques are offered with antiques vendors on site with “pop-up” shops to sell their items. The 2016 Appraisal Fair is scheduled for April 2nd at the Waterford Union High School. A new event for 2016 will be Absolutely Waterford’s Pooch Parade to be held on Aug. 20th. All dog lovers are invited to “strut their mutt” for prizes and bragging rights, shop Village businesses for fun, pooch-related items, get a dog-wash, visit with rescue dogs who will be looking for new families, and much more. As a lifelong resident of Racine County, I quickly realized Waterford was a great place with wonderful people. By 1992 I had an office in downtown and was serving on the board for the Waterford Chamber of Commerce. Through the years I have come to realize just how blessed I am to have the ability to be a part of the fabric of this community. My wife Yvonne, my step-daughter Kaitlin, and I now operate Lauer Financial Services at 228 N. Milwaukee St. We provide financial, investment, insurance, and estate planning services, as well as income tax preparation. We are proud to call Waterford home, and we look forward to many more years of serving the community in any way we can.” -Brian Lauer, Owner and Financial Advisor, Lauer Financial Services Waterford area map lakecountrynow.com waterford-wi.org 15 16 Waterford Area Chamber Directory 2016 lakecountrynow.com waterford-wi.org 17 AREA CHURCHES Baptist Honey Creek Community Baptist Church (American Baptist) 35512 Washington Ave., Honey Creek 262-534-3585 Catholic St. Clare Catholic Church Norway Evangelical Lutheran New Beginnings Christian Church 6321 Heg Park Road, Wind Lake 262-895-2281 www.norwaylutheranchurch.org 318 W. Jefferson Street, Waterford 262-534-2313 www.extremefaith.org Photo by Terry Alby Waterford The place to ford the river W hile bridges have made transportation across rivers more efficient, we’re still largely defined by our name and the beautiful Fox River that runs through our quaint village. Many communities envy the natural resource right outside our door that we are proud to claim. The river travels from Waukesha County, swells into the large water area of Tichigan Lake, and continues through the village on to Illinois. Waterford is known for the great water recreation of Tichigan Lake that grew through the creation of the Waterford Impoundment when the first dam was built in 1837. Now, hundreds of people, residents and visitors, enjoy fishing, boating, waterskiing and relaxing on the waters north of the Waterford Dam. Quiet water sports –canoe and kayak – have exploded in popularity in recent years and the Fox River is the perfect trip for paddlers. Recognizing the interest and the need to ensure that paddlers have safe passage, the Village of Waterford and Racine County, with grant funding through a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Stewardship Grant and the Racine Community Foundation, installed canoe/kayak launches around the Waterford and Rochester dams. Creating this easy portage opened up the river for paddlers of all skill levels to potentially travel from Waukesha to Illinois. The launches are free and open to the public. With two major obstacles addressed, the Village began to work with others in Wisconsin and Illinois to develop the Wisconsin- Illinois Fox River Water Trail. The trail will run through three Wisconsin counties and five Illinois counties, from the headwaters to the confluence with the Illinois River in Ottawa, Illinois. With the award of a technical assistance grant from the National Park Service, the core development team has the assistance of staff from the agency’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program. The team includes people from communities in Wisconsin and Illinois, planning agencies, and other organizations to develop a trail, signage, trip information including points of interest, facilities, cultural and historical features, water hazards, and mapping, following the guidelines of other water trail initiatives. Developing the water trail provides another recreational opportunity for people to enjoy the natural resources of the river – its beauty, wildlife and serenity. It also encourages physical activity and the commitment to care for our environment. Economic development is also a key component to creation of the water trail – tourism; new businesses to supply gear, transport, and supplies; and restaurants, retail, lodging, fuel, and groceries to welcome the visitors who travel through the village. The water trail development is in the earliest stages, but great resources are in place to see it to fruition and the team is already discussing the steps after development – application to the National Park Service for the Fox River Water Trail to be designated a national water trail. If successful, it would join 18 others, and be only the third to encompass two states. “My family and I moved to Waterford in 1996. I was a Mortgage Loan Originator then as well, working in downtown Milwaukee. I transferred to Waterford in July 1997 and only knew a few “baseball moms” after living here for a year. A few months later I was invited to an open house where two Chamber members invited me to serve on the Chamber Board. I reluctantly agreed and it was the one of the best decisions I ever made! Nearly 19 years later I still enjoy being involved for several reasons; continue to meet great friends through the Chamber, the sense of belonging and a connection to those within my community is still very strong, and I love meeting new people and learning about what they do.” -Pam Lanting, Mortgage Loan Originator, North Shore Bank lakecountrynow.com waterford-wi.org 19 LOCAL SCHOOLS North Cape School District Waterford Union High School www.waterforduhs.k12.wi.us 100 Field Dr., Waterford 262-534-3189 Waterford Union High School has been educating students since 1905. I’m proud to be affiliated with the Waterford Area Chamber!” -Connie Lelivelt, Owner, Next Step Life Coach lakecountrynow.com waterford-wi.org 21 CHAMBER MEMBERS, BY CATEGORY Acupuncture Chiropractic Services Dentists Food Vendor Allexi Chiropractic and Acupuncture LLC: Core Chiropractic & Wellness Center: 262-767-0500 Dr. Michael J Casey DDS: Sweet Delight Kettle Corn: 262-534-6515 414-333-4381 262-323-2925 Riverside Chiropractic Wellness Center: 262-514-3600 Dr. Sharon Ruetz-Smith DDS and Dr. Allison Delorme Family Dentistry: 262-534-6514 Funeral Services Bodhi Tree Acupuncture & Wellness: 262-721-8101 Accommodations Churches Fox River Christian Church: Baymont Inn & Suites of Waterford: 262-534-4100 262-332-7047 Accountants Hope Church: 262-865-4559 Gordon J Maier & Company LLP: Living Water Lutheran Church: 262-634-7108 KJ Tax & Accounting LLC: Grace Church: 262-763-3021 262-895-3700 262-514-3800 Norway Evangelical Church: 262-895-2281 Weber Accounting Inc.: St. Clare Catholic Church: 262-534-5566 Lutheran 262-895-2729 Waterford Family Dental: Integrity Funeral Services: 262-514-4600 262-534-5303 Mealy Funeral Home Inc.: Financial – Banks / Credit Unions Furniture Associated Bank: 262-534-3151 Roesing Furniture: 262-534-2233 BMO Harris Bank N.A.: 262-534-3131 262-534-7292 Garage Door Services Community State Bank: Jim’s Garage Door Service: 262-514-2200 262-632-3667 Educators Credit Union: Garbage Removal 262-767-2982 Johns Disposal Service Inc.: Advertising & Media Citizen Advocates Best of Your Hometown Magazines: 262-210-2520 Johnson Bank: 262-757-1150 262-865-1053 Dan Bowser: 414-303-6234 Landmark Credit Union: Golf Courses Jerry Filut: 414-690-6865 262-796-4500 Dennis Gahagan: 262-534-3023 North Shore Bank: Magnum Media: 262-895-9093 Attorneys Nickolai & Poletti LLC: 262-757-8444 Automotive Dealerships Lynch Truck Center: 262-514-4000 Automotive Service/Repair Gary Tilleros:262-534-3202 Cleaning Services Klassy Kleaners: 262-210-8013 Government Offices Peoples Bank: 262-514-1600 Town of Norway: The Equitable Bank SSB: 262-895-6335 262-534-5161 Town of Waterford: Town Bank: 262-895-4610 Flitz International Ltd.: 262-534-5898 Financial – Credit Card Processing Village of Waterford: Computer Services Capital Bankcard: Graphic Design Hometown Computers Sales & Services LLC: 262-514-3389 Ron’s Super Service Inc.: Concrete/Stone Balloonists 262-534-2500 262-763-8455 Cleaning/Care Products River City Auto Body & Truck Division: 262-514-4656 262-662-2530 Rivermoor Golf Club: Witte Supply Company: 262-534-3050 WindDancer Balloon Promotions: 262-522-6675 Contractors – General Bus Lines 262-679-5154 S & J Bus Service: Burback Builders LLC: 262-534-2350 608-718-1425 Financial – Professional Services Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc: 262-534-3980 Fred Kroner, Graphic Designer: 920-941-0528 Hair Salons 800-594-2883 Great Clips: 262-332-7888 Edward Jones – Waterford: His and Hairs Inc.: 262-534-9766 262-895-2154 Edward Jones – Wind Lake: Shear Image Hair Salon: 262-895-2704 262-534-4247 Lauer Financial Services Inc.: Studio KR: 414-840-5128 262-534-4780 Mike Kempken and Sons Construction LLC: 262-534-5438 Business Services Contractors – Heating Northwestern Mutual: Runzheimer International Ltd.: 1st Choice Heating & Cooling: 262-514-3524 800-558-1702 262-547-2030 Patriot Financial / Tax LLC: Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce: 262-534-5911 Competitive Heating and Air Conditioning LLC: 262-534-7930 262-332-7303 WWBIC: 262-925-2850 Roth Heating Company Inc.: 262-210-6637 414-764-4700 Fireplaces Burlington Fireplace & Heating LLC: 262-763-3522 Cellular Providers Talk of the Town / U.S. Cellular: 262-763-8255 Child Care / Preschool St. Peter’s Rainbow Preschool: 262-534-6066 Southport Heating, Plumbing, & Geothermal: 262-534-6455 Contractors – Roofing SRS Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc.:262-514-3103 Today’s Child Learning Academy LLC: 262-534-7810 Contractors – Siding Kevin Schmitt Siding & Insulation Inc.: 262-534-4626 22 2016 Waterford Area Chamber Directory 262-534-7100 Hardware Reineman’s True Value: 262-763-3577 Water Street Advisors: Flooring In Home Floor & Fashions: 262-534-3344 Health Care and Wellness AdvoCare: 262-332-1184 Window Aurora Health Center Waterford: 262-514-3700 Beltone Hearing Center: 262-757-0200 Lakeview Specialty Hospital & Rehab: 262-534-7297 Floral Mangosteen4u: 414-704-2190 D.J. Being an active member in the Chamber has allowed me to take my relationships within the community to the next level. I have formed relationships with other business owners and community members in a way that knocking on doors wouldn’t have done. To me, it was a great place growing up and I just knew that it was where I wanted to settle my life and start a family. I have an awesome husband, Jaime, a vibrant 2-year-old son, Noah, and newborn son, Joseph. Fresh out of college, in 2009, a friend and I started Skyline Landscape Design and as of March 2015 I became sole owner. We immediately became a Waterford Area Chamber business member and have been ever since. Doing so was such a great way for us to meet other business owners, learn more about ‘business’ and let as many people as we could know about our business. Being a part of the Chamber has given me the opportunity to volunteer in the community in many different ways. I feel blessed to have had the ability to help and be a part of it all.” -Tina Multhauf, Owner and Horticulturist, Skyline Landscape Design Photo by Captured Moments Photography lakecountrynow.com waterford-wi.org 25 Elite Realty Inc. I started a business as co-owner of Shear Image Hair Salon in 2005. Recently in 2014, I decided to branch off and start an independent business, Studio KR, located at Shear Image Hair Salon. Being a Chamber member for 10 years and getting involved with events and activities has been very fulfilling. The number of wonderful people I have met and volunteered with is countless. My passion lies with being active with the Balloonfest and all the fun we have planning and sharing ideas.I have always loved being part of the Chamber and this community, because I work in this community and service many local clients. There are many opportunities out there in our community to volunteer and to show your strengths and desires.” -Kathy Robers, Owner, Studio KR 26 Waterford Area Chamber Directory 2016 Johnson Bank Klassy Kleaners 101 West Chestnut Street Burlington, WI 53105 (262) 757-1170 www.johnsonbank.com 401 Foxmead Drive Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 210-8013 www.klassykleaners.com K Karweik Countryside Insurance 202 East Main Street Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 534-1990 www.karweikins.com Kevin Schmitt Siding & Insulation Inc. 23728 Dover Line Road Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 534-4626 www.kevinschmittsiding.com Kojis Produce 509 East Main Street Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 534-3935 www.kojisproduce.com L Lakeshores Library System 29134 Evergreen Drive, Suite 600 Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 514-4500 www.lakeshores.lib.wi.us Lakeview Specialty Hospital & Rehab 1701 Sharp Road Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 534-7297 www.lakeviewsystem.com Landmark Credit Union 973 Milwaukee Avenue Burlington, WI 53105 (262) 796-4500 www.landmarkcu.com Latitudes Travel LLC 28814 Stone Ridge Court Waterford, WI 53185 414-433-4873 www.latitudeswi.com KJ Tax & Accounting LLC 501 East Main Street Waterford, WI 53185 (262) 514-3800 www.kjtaxcpa.com KK Photography 300 East Main Street, Suite A Waterford, WI 53185 (414) 861-8749 www.KKPhotography.com “As the past president of the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce I have enjoyed helping nurture our community. I have lived in the Waterford community since 2000. I was originally drawn to Waterford because of the reputation of the school districts. Over the last 16 years I have been very happy with my choice. I have had the pleasure of working at Riverside Chiropractic for the last nine-plus years. The dedication and knowledge that I witness everyday by Dr. Jenny as she faithfully administers her skill to each individual so they may go out and make our community as healthy as it can be is a very humbling experience. We are very committed to the Waterford community and love being part of the Waterford Area Chamber and all it has to offer.
