» EAGLES CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON AT BOWLING GREEN: The Eastern Michigan University
soccer team will close out the 2014 regular season with a trip south, crossing the state border to battle
the Bowling Green State University Falcons on Thursday, Oct 30. The Mid-American Conference crossdivisional matchup is set to begin at 3 p.m. A win over the Falcons would give EMU at least a share
of the MAC West Division title as well as the No. 3 seed for a MAC Tournament quarterfinal game on
Sunday, Nov. 2, that would take place at Scicluna Field.
The EMU attack is led by senior forward Angela Vultaggio. The reigning MAC Offensive Player
of the Year has recorded team highs in goals (7) and points (16) with both numbers ranking fourth
and fifth, respectively, among conference leaders. Fellow senior Bianca Rossi follows closely behind
Vultaggio with six goals and a trio of assists, totaling 13 points. Madison Hirsch, Marisa Kozikowski
and Chelsie Oddan are all tied with Rossi in with the team high in assists with three apiece. In goal for
Eastern, junior keeper Megan McCabe (9-5-1) holds down the defensive side of the pitch. In 14 starts
this season, McCabe has posted seven shutouts to go along with a 0.98 goals against average. She has
made 66 saves for an .815 save percentage.

» ANOTHER WEEKEND CHOP: Just like the previous weekend, the Eagles split a pair of MAC contests,
falling on Friday before bouncing back with a victory on Sunday. EMU dropped a 3-1 decision to Northern Illinois, Oct. 24, while using stellar defense to sneak past rival Western Michigan, 1-0, Oct. 26. The
Sunday victory kept Eastern’s destiny in its own hands as the Green and White try to claim the MAC
West crown.
The Eagles caught the Huskies of Northern Illinois on a bad night as NIU used a high-powered attack
and found the back of the net one three occasions. Bianca Rossi scored the Eagles’ lone goal for her
sixth of the season and 24th of her career, moving her in a tie for fourth with Katie Lewis on EMU’s alltime list. EMU out-shot Northern Illinois, 14-9, including 8-4 in shots on goal, but the Green and White
struggled to locate any openings in the NIU defense.
In the win at Western, a goal by redshirt sophomore Ellie Tillar in the 39th minute was all the Eastern
Michigan University soccer team needed to soar past the in-state foe at the WMU Soccer Complex. Tillar
scored her third goal of the season on a back post finish as Emily Dzik picked up the assist on the smooth
pass to her teammate. Megan McCabe made three saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season
and 12th of her career, moving her into a tie for fourth on the EMU all-time shutouts list with former
keeper Erin Norton. The junior Eagle was assisted by the back quartet of Dzik, Hallee Kansman, Marisa
Kozikowski and Rachel Washburn, who all played 90 minutes apiece to pitch in the clean sheet.

» HOW THE WEST CAN BE WON: With a victory over Bowling Green to close out the 2014 regular season,
Oct. 30, the Eagles would clinch at least a share of the top spot in the MAC West. The win would mark

soccer standings into two divisions beginning in 2010. EMU is currently tied for first in the MAC West

EMU leads the all-time series between the two programs, 12-8-1, including victories in five of the last
six contests. In last year’s matchup, the Eagles pounced on BGSU miscues with a 2-1 win under the lights
of Cochrane Field, Oct. 4, 2013. Stephanie Clarke scored the game-winning goal for EMU, converting
her third penalty kick of the season in as many tries after a BGSU handball in the box. The Eagles scored
their first goal of the contest on an own goal early in the second half. Eastern sent 14 of its 27 shots on
goal, but Cadel stopped 12 of them.
» CLIMBING THE CAREER CHARTS: A pair of Eagles continued to climb the EMU all-time career charts
over the weekend. Senior Bianca Rossi scored a goal against Northern Illinois for the 24th of her career,
which ties Katie Lewis for fourth in Eastern laurels. One more goal by Rossi will slide her into sole possession of fourth in the record books, trailing teammate Angela Vultaggio, who sits in third with 32
career goals. Meanwhile, junior goalkeeper Megan McCabe secured her 12th career shutout in a 1-0
win over rival Western Michigan to move into a tie with former Eagle goalie Erin Norton for fourth on
the EMU shutout list. With one more year of eligibility remaining, McCabe will be in pursuit of Maggie
Manville’s mark of 17 clean sheets, third in program history.
» DOUBLE DIGIT W’s: The latest victory over Western Michigan gave the EMU soccer team its 10th win
of the season as the Eagles shut down the Broncos, 1-0. Reaching double digits in the win column for
2014 marks the first time the program has tallied 10-or-more victories in at least three consecutive
seasons since the Green and White posted six straight double-digit win seasons from 1996-2001. With
12 victories in 2013 and 11 in 2012, the Eagles recorded back-to-back double-digit win seasons for
the first time since the 2008 and 2009 campaigns where EMU rattled off records of 13-5-5 and 11-4-6,
respectively.

» FINDING THE NET FIRST: Scoring first can be an important aspect of any game when it comes to
momentum, confidence and strategy. In 2013, Head Coach Scott Hall’s squad was extremely successful when posting the first number on the scoreboard, managing games efficiently when they are
the first to find the net and holding a record of 9-1-1 in those contests. This year is nothing different
as the Eagles have scored first in 10 games, compiling a 9-1-1 mark in those contests. EMU also has
one come-from-behind win to its credit. Despite Ball State scoring in the seventh minute of the MAC
West battle, Sept. 28, the Green and White scored late in the first half as well as early in overtime to
complete the comeback victory.
» ROSSI LIKES #MACTION: Mid-American Conference games seem to bring the best out of Bianca
Rossi. Throughout her four-year career, the senior forward has recorded 17 of her 24 goals in MAC
contests. As a freshman, she tied for a team-high four goals against conference opponents before
adding five more as a sophomore. During her junior season, Rossi recorded three goals and found
scoring opportunities for her teammates with an additional four assists. In her final season donning
the Green and White, the Mississauga, Ontario native has recorded six goals, including five in MAC
play. Rossi recorded an assist in the 2-0 win over Miami, Sept. 26, before scoring both goals in the
Eagles’ 2-1 overtime victory against Ball State, Sept. 28. In the victory versus the Cardinals, Rossi’s
scoring performance was the second multi-goal game of her career as she also scored twice against
Oakland during the 2012 season. Most recently, Rossi found the back of the net with less than four
minutes to go to help the Eagles soar past the Toledo Rockets, 1-0, Oct. 10, before scoring a goal in
the Senior Day victory over Ohio, Oct. 19, as well as in a road contest against Northern Illinois, Oct.

» EMILY DZIK NAMED A FINALIST FOR THE 2014 SENIOR CLASS AWARD: Eastern Michigan University
senior Emily Dzik has been selected as a finalist for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, Oct. 21. After being
chosen as one-of-30 candidates in September, Dzik made the cut down to the 10 finalists.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s
candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the
winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 24. Fan
votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The
Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Men’s and Women’s College
Cup® championships in December.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS
Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics
to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
In terms of character, Dzik is a leader for the EMU soccer program. Starting in every game since she
arrived on campus as a freshman, she has proven to be a leader on the field. Her teammates look up to
her, and she is a team captain for the 2014 campaign. In her final season as an Eagle, Dzik has been a
threat on both sides of the field. As a defender, she has played all 1384 minutes of the season thus far
and has helped EMU reach the top of the Mid-American Conference West Division. Leading the EMU
back line, Dzik has been a primary factor in six shutouts as the Eagles have kept their opponents off
the scoreboard. Also, Dzik has shown she has offensive firepower as well, scoring two goals in 2014.
Dzik is a two-time All-MAC First Team honoree and has started every game of her EMU career. She

The Scott Hall File
The 2014 season marks Head Coach Scott Hall’s 16th year leading the Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team. Hall has
been with the program since it came into existence in 1995, serving
as assistant coach for four seasons before taking over as head coach
in 1999.
Hall, a former member of the EMU men’s soccer team from 199094, has a career record of 161-120-43 and a 104-57-23 mark in MidAmerican Conference play. Under Hall, EMU squads have enjoyed
eight seasons of 10-or-more victories including a pair of 15-or-more
win campaigns (1999, 2001). Hall’s teams have qualified for the MAC
Tournament 12 times and captured one tournament title, three regular season titles and nine top-five finishes.
In his latest season at the helm, Hall led the team to a 12-7-2
record, including 8-2-1 in MAC play, to capture the Mid-American
Conference regular season title, the program’s first since 2003. For
his strong leadership, Hall was named MAC Coach of the Year by his
peers in the conference. Along with standing atop of the conference
at the conclusion of the regular season, EMU led the MAC in several
categories: points (137), goals (45), goals per game (2.14), assists
(47) and assists per game (2.24). The offensively-charged Eagles produced the 33rd-best scoring offense in the nation, ranking 23rd nationally in points and 13th in assists. The 45 goals were the third-most
scored in a single season in program history. Eastern was in every
contest throughout the season as all seven losses were only by one
goal. Individually, forward Angela Vultaggio was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year, while junior Emily Dzik shared MAC Defensive
Player of the Year honors.
The 2012 team rebounded from missing the postseason in 2011
to capturing third place overall in the Mid-American Conference and
second in the West Division with an overall record of 11-6-2 and an
8-3-0 MAC mark. The Eagles posted their first 11-win season since
2009 and first eight-win performance in conference action since
2003 while achieving the largest single-season turnaround in program history.
During his first season as head coach in 1999, Hall led the Eagles
to their first-ever Mid-American Conference title and NCAA tournament berth. During that memorable 1999 season, Eastern Michigan
was ranked sixth nationally in team defense, with a 0.55 goals against
average. The Eagles also finished the year with 13 shutouts, good
for seventh in the nation. Goalkeeper Sarah Willis was named MAC
Player of the Year following the season, along with five other Eagles
garnering all conference honors. Hall was selected MAC Coach of the
Year for his efforts, the first time an EMU soccer coach earned the
award. Hall was named MAC Coach of the Year again following the
2001 season after going 10-4-1 in conference play.
The 2003 campaign also proved to be a historic run for the Green
and White. EMU opened up MAC play going unbeaten in the first
nine games with a 7-0-2 mark en route to the MAC regular-season
title and earning the No. 1 seed for the tournament with an 8-2-2
record. The Eagles hit double digit wins again during the 2004 campaign, going 10-7-3 with a 6-4-2 MAC record.
After missing the tournament in 2006, Hall’s team bounced back
with a 5-4-2 MAC record in 2007, earning the No. 5 seed for the postseason tournament. EMU lost a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime game to
Bowling Green, ending the 2007 season with a 7-8-4 mark for the
Green and White. The 2008 season was a return to the upper echelon
of the Mid-American Conference for Hall and the Eagles. EMU made
it to the championship match in 2008 before losing a tough 1-0 game
to the University of Toledo. In 2009, the Green and White cracked the
semifinals and were led by MAC Player of the Year Ashley Rodrigues.
In 2010, the Eagles finished with a 9-7-5 overall record with a 6-2-3
mark in MAC play. Hall’s squad earned the No. 4 seed headed into
the MAC Tournament but fell in a nail-biter to Western Michigan on
penalty kicks in the opening round.
Throughout his tenure with the Eagles, Hall has coached four
MAC Players of the Year, 45 all-conference selections, 49 Academic
All-MAC picks and nine All-Great Lakes region performers.
The 42-year-old Hall took over the women’s soccer program
following the tragic death of the program’s first head coach, Paul
Scicluna, in the fall of 1998. He had served as assistant coach since
the inaugural season in 1995. During his time as assistant coach, the
Eagles qualified for the MAC Tournament in 1997 and 1998. Hall also
worked with his mentor at Total Soccer, Inc. as a counselor and instructor.
A four-year varsity letterwinner at Grand Ledge High School
(1985-89), Hall earned All-Capital Area Conference and All-League
honors. He continued his career as a member of the Eastern Michigan University men’s soccer program from 1990-94, earning four
varsity letters.
An Eastern Michigan graduate, Hall earned his bachelor’s degree
in elementary education in 1994. Hall and his wife, Sue, have a son
Jack (9), and a daughter, Maya (7). They reside in South Lyon, Mich.

was named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, leading the EMU defense that pitched five
shutouts throughout the season as the Eagles captured the MAC regular season crown. She started
every game for the Eagles, playing 1,930 out of a possible 1,967 minutes. Dzik collected NSCAA AllGreat Lakes Region Third Team and All-MAC First Team honors for her performance on the pitch, while
proving to be an offensive threat on corner kicks as three headers found the back of the net. She was
also recognized for athletic and academic success by earning Capital One Academic All-District Second
Team and Academic All-MAC accolades.
As a sophomore, she was named to the All-MAC First Team and Academic All-MAC Team for the first
time in her career after starting all 19 games on the EMU backline. The Troy, Mich. native notched two
points on the season with a game-winning goal in overtime against Akron, Oct. 21, while also tallying
nine shots with four on goal. In her debut season, Dzik was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team,
starting all 18 games and recording the most minutes played (1638) of any EMU player. She also tallied
a pair of goals and an assist in the EMU backfield during her first season as an Eagle.
Dzik was a leader among the EMU soccer student-athletes as they became role models for kids on
youth soccer teams, running out on the pitch with the Eagles for the starting lineups. Also, in the Eagles’
final non-conference match of the 2013 season, Sept. 22, at Scicluna Field against Indiana State, the
Eastern Michigan University soccer team recognized the match as Cancer Awareness Day. The Eagles
sported teal armbands, headbands and special white jerseys with teal-colored numbers, the color
of ovarian cancer awareness. As an upperclassman, Dzik was one of the leaders with this important
awareness day. She has volunteered in multiple soccer functions in the summer such as soccer camps
and soccer tournaments to help teach, assist, direct, and play with younger kids.
Dzik excels in the classroom with a difficult major, holding a 3.98 GPA while studying nursing. In 2013,
Dzik was recognized for athletic and academic success by earning Capital One Academic All-District
Second Team and Academic All-MAC accolades. She also found herself as an Academic All-MAC studentathlete in her sophomore season, the first year eligible for the honor. The Troy, Mich. is an EMU Scholar
Athlete with one of the highest GPAs out of all Eastern Michigan student-athletes. Dzik is a member of
both the honors college as well as the nursing mentor program, helping younger students adjust to
the program and nursing school. She is also a class representative for administration coordination in
Child/Family Health Nursing. In her quest to become a nurse after college, Dzik is a current member
of the Eastern Michigan chapter of the nationwide Student Nurses Association.
» EMU ANNOUNCES RENOVATIONS TO SCICLUNA FIELD: The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics has announced renovations to Scicluna Field that include a press box as well as
permanent bleachers, Oct. 20. The additions to the home of EMU soccer are expected to be completed
by Nov. 1.
“The new renovations at Scicluna Field are a tremendous enhancement to our soccer facility and
will help create an exceptional game day experience for our student-athletes and fans,” noted EMU
Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Heather Lyke. “We appreciate the loyal support to
our soccer program as the team competes for another Mid-American Conference Championship this
year.”
“The additions to Scicluna Field are major steps for our program as we compete against some of
the top teams in the nation as well as throughout the MAC year after year,” commented EMU Head
Soccer Coach Scott Hall. “I would like to thank Director of Athletics Heather Lyke and the rest of the
executive team for being strong supporters of Eastern Michigan soccer.”
When the renovations are completed, fans will arrive at Scicluna Field via a new sidewalk that passes
the Indoor Practice Facility and travels all the way to the bleachers. The bleachers will have individual
seats and is compliant with ADA regulations. The construction of the press box will include a roof top
camera deck that will support two camera platforms.
“The team is thrilled about the renovations, and we hope that our fans will feel the same way,” mentioned Coach Hall. “Winning the MAC regular season title last year and having Real Madrid practice
on our field this summer to now adding bleachers and a press box at Scicluna Field, it definitely is an
exciting time for our program.”
» THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The EMU soccer team enjoys the comfort of playing on its home
pitch of Scicluna Field. The Eagles are 6-1-0 at Scicluna Field this season and have posted an impressive 19-7-3 home record over the past three years. Through the program’s 20 seasons, the Eagles have
compiled a record of 103-45-24 on their home pitch. Scicluna Field has hosted EMU women’s soccer
competition since the 1995 season.
» MCCABE HONORED AS MAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Leading the Eastern Michigan University soccer team to a pair of shutout victories on homecoming weekend, junior goalkeeper Megan
McCabe was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced,
Oct. 13. The weekly accolade marks the fifth time that McCabe has been tabbed as the conference’s
top defensive student-athlete for a given week in her career. It is also the second weekly award of the
season for McCabe as she was the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, Oct. 1.
McCabe led the Eagles to the top of the MAC West Division with a pair of shutout victories over
divisional opponents. She did not allow a goal in 180 minutes of play, making seven saves in the two
wins. The junior keeper made four saves in the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Toledo, Oct. 10, before stopping
three shots to help the Green and White defeat Central Michigan, 2-0, Oct. 12. Preserving the shutout
against the rival Chippewas, McCabe made a brilliant save late in the contest. A CMU shot looked out

of reach as it rose to the upper right corner of the net; nonetheless, McCabe leaped to the corner with
an outstretched hand to swat the ball away, drawing a huge applause from the crowd as the 2-0 shutout
victory was kept intact.
With a pair of shutouts this weekend, McCabe now has six shutouts for the 2014 campaign to go along
with an overall record of 8-3-1 in between the posts. Her two clean sheets improve her career total to
11 for fifth in EMU soccer history. The Arlington Heights, Ill. native has made 57 stops in 13 games for a
save percentage of .851, allowing an average of just .81 goals per game.
» CENTURY MARKS: The win over Ball State, Sept. 28, was not only a major victory in Eastern’s hopes
of defending its MAC regular season title, but it was also a milestone win. The overtime victory was
the program’s 100th win at Scicluna Field, improving its record to 100-44-24 over the team’s 20-year
history. The century mark was also reached by EMU Head Coach Scott Hall, who won his 100th MAC
game at the helm of the EMU soccer, becoming just the second coach in conference history to accomplish the feat.
» MEGAN MCCABE NAMED MAC SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: After leading the Eastern Michigan
University soccer team to a pair of victories to start the Mid-American Conference season, junior Megan
McCabe has been named MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, the conference announced for the
period ending Sept. 29. McCabe earns the award for the second time, improving her weekly conference
accolade total to six for her career.
McCabe was a primary factor in the Eagles beginning their MAC regular season title defense with a
pair of victories last weekend. The junior made 16 saves over 184 total minutes as EMU defeated Miami
2-0 on the road, Sept. 26, before taking down Ball State 2-1 in overtime, Sept. 28. Against the RedHawks,
McCabe tied her season high by making nine saves for her fourth shutout of the season. McCabe also
became the only goalkeeper to keep Miami off the scoreboard for an entire game in 2014. In Sunday’s
overtime win versus the Cardinals, McCabe was fantastic between the posts, making save after save to
keep the Eagles in the match. The Arlington Heights, Ill. native completed a strong weekend with seven
saves against Ball State. McCabe saw 23 shots from 11 different Cardinals, but only allowed a single goal
early in the first half as she constantly sacrificed her body to prevent the ball from finding the back of
the net.
McCabe, an exercise science major with a 3.58 GPA, was named MAC Scholar Athlete of the week
for the first time in her career, Oct. 27, 2013, as the Eagles zeroed in on their conference regular season
title. She also earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors three times as a junior, while sharing
the honor once during her sophomore season.

» MILES UPON MILES: After two home exhibition matches as well as two games at Scicluna Field to
begin the regular season, EMU spent 35 days away from Ypsilanti for six road contests. Before the Eagles
returned home, Sept. 28, they traveled a total of 3,171 miles during the six-game road trip. The longest
venture was out to the West Coast to face Oregon and Oregon State; the distance from Ypsilanti to Eugene, Ore. is 2,373 miles. Life on the rigorous road ended Sept. 26 in Oxford, Ohio as Eastern defeated
Miami University, 2-0, to kick off MAC play. Two days later, the team returned home to down Ball State
in overtime, 2-1, in a Sunday afternoon affair, Sept. 28.

» CRACKING THE NSCAA GREAT LAKES REGION POLL: Following a perfect 2-0 opening MAC weekend,
the EMU soccer team came in at No. 8 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region
rankings for the period ending, Sept. 30. Eastern was one-of-two MAC schools in the rankings with rival
Western Michigan University at No. 9. Illinois State University cracked the poll at No. 10, and the remaining seven teams were Big Ten Conference institutions. Penn State University topped the rankings, while
the University of Michigan and Michigan State University were No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.

» PRESEASON POLL PREDICTS EMU TO FINISH SECOND IN MAC WEST: The 2014 EMU women’s soccer team has been picked to finish second in the MidAmerican Conference West Division as the conference released its preseason coaches’ poll, Monday, Aug. 18. In addition to the runner-up prediction, the
Eagles also received two votes to win the West.
Western Michigan University topped the standings as the favorite to win the West with seven first-place votes, while EMU and Ball State each received a
pair of first-place votes to follow the Broncos in second and third, respectively. The majority of coaches also felt that WMU would repeat as MAC Tournament
champion. Rounding out the West in order of the final three spots are Central Michigan University, the University of Toledo and Northern Illinois University.
In the East, the coaches overall felt that Kent State University would claim the top spot in the division; however, Miami University, predicted to end up
behind the Golden Flashes, held seven first-place votes compared to just five for KSU. With those two teams taking all of the votes to finish at the top, Ohio
University followed in third and the University at Buffalo was tabbed to finish fourth. The University of Akron and Bowling Green State University completed
the standings in the East division.
Last year, the preseason poll predicted the Green and White to finish second in the West, but the Eagles exceeded those expectations by standing alone
atop the Mid-American Conference at the conclusion of the regular season with an 8-2-1 record in MAC play and a 12-7-2 overall record. The conference
championship was the program’s third overall and first since the 2003 season. Despite losing five seniors to graduation, Coach Scott Hall returns a veteran
cast that includes 2013 MAC Offensive Player of the Year Angela Vultaggio and MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Emily Dzik.

» POWER PLAYS: The gauntlet of the grueling non-conference schedule continued for Coach Scott Hall and his squad. The Green and White went through
a stretch of playing five consecutive games against teams from the five “power” conferences for the fourth-toughest non-conference schedule in the nation.
During those contests, the Eagles played .500 soccer, going 2-2-1. EMU started with a 2-0 victory over Indiana at home, before dropping a road matchup at
Michigan State and a neutral site contest to nationally-ranked Texas Tech in overtime. Looking to get back on the winning track, the Eagles were successful
in their trip to Oregon. EMU and Oregon played to a 1-1 draw before Eastern downed the Oregon State Beavers, 1-0. Similar to last season, the tough nonconference schedule will test EMU and prepare the team for the Mid-American Conference slate.
» ANGELA VULTAGGIO NAMED MAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: After leading the EMU soccer team to a pair of 2-0 victories to start the season,
senior Angela Vultaggio earned the first MAC Offensive Player of the Week distinction for the 2014 season. The senior Eagle picks up the weekly award
for the fourth time in her career.
The 2013 MAC Offensive Player of the Year picked up right where she left off last season with an impressive start to the 2014 campaign. Vultaggio scored
three of her team’s four goals on opening weekend in wins over Fordham, Aug. 22, and Indiana, Aug. 24. Four of her seven shots landed on goal as she paced
the EMU offensive attack.
Vultaggio scored her first goal of the season in the victory over Fordham; the keeper came to the top of the box, and the senior picked her spot and placed
it with perfection in the back of the net to give the Green and White the 1-0 advantage.
In the win over Indiana, Vultaggio, known for having a knack of finding the back of the net, struck all three of her shots on goal within three minutes of
one another, and her final two were successful in getting past the keeper in the 24th and 25th minutes. Her goals were within 53 seconds of one another as
the Chesterfield, Mich. native rifled a strike in the upper left-hand corner of the net for the goal before converting on a 30-yard run. Vultaggio did not miss
her one-on-one opportunity, making a shifty move to stymie the keeper and put the ball away for the two-goal advantage. The two-goal contest marked
the fourth multi-goal game of her EMU career.
» LOFTY EXPECTATIONS: With nearly the entire team returning from 2012, the EMU soccer team came into the 2013 season with high expectations that
included a Mid-American Conference championship. The Eagles accomplished that goal with a 12-7-2 (8-2-1 MAC) record for the program’s third regular
season conference crown and first since 2003. The Green and White lost five seniors to last year’s team but return a plethora of talent that hopes to defend
the team’s MAC regular season title.
The Eagles will once again be led by 16th-year Head Coach Scott Hall, who has taken the squad to the conference postseason 12 times along with winning the MAC Tournament in 1999. Hall’s 2014 group features 19 returning letterwinners along with eight starters and six newcomers.
» DEADLY DEFENSE: On the defensive side of the pitch, the Green and White return MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Emily Dzik to lead a defense that
helped pitch five shutouts and finished in the middle of the conference in goals allowed, giving up 1.10 goals per game. Not only is Dzik the anchor of the
EMU backline, but she also has proving to be a threat to score on set pieces, tallying three goals during 2013.
Alongside Dzik, fellow teammate Marisa Kozikowski returns for her senior season after collecting All-MAC Second Team accolades in 2013, and Jennifer
Bentley is back after starting all 21 games a season ago. The EMU defense will also welcome back redshirt-junior Hallee Kansman, who missed the entire
2013 campaign due to injury. Coach Hall will put the remainder of the defensive duties on returners and Julia Lombardi and Rachel Washburn, as well as
a group of newcomers which includes: Olivia Kitz, Chanel Vani and Alex Wilbanks.
» VETERAN GOALKEEPING: In goal, two starters will battle for the primary job in 2012 starter Jenna O’Dell and last season’s starter Megan McCabe. O’Dell
missed the 2013 season with an injury, but McCabe was fantastic throughout the year to serve as a focal point in the Eagles’ regular season MAC crown.
In her first full season in net for the Green and White, McCabe held down the defensive side of the pitch, stopping 93 shots in 21 games between the
posts, leading to four individual shutouts. Overall, the Arlington Heights, Ill. native tallied a 1.06 goals against average and an 80.2 save percentage while
helping pitch five EMU shutouts as a sophomore. She also set an EMU single-season record facing 303 shots, passing Maggie Manville’s previous school
record of 277, set back in 2011.

O’Dell last saw action as the Eagles’ starter in 2012, starting 16 games and compiling a record of 8-6-2 that included five shutouts. During that season,
she ranked second in the MAC in save percentage (.811), saves (90) and saves per game (5.62).
» SCORING FORWARDS: Despite losing All-MAC First Team honoree Stephanie Clarke to graduation, plenty of offense returns from a team that stood atop
the MAC in several categories: points (137), goals (45), goals per game (2.14), assists (47) and assists per game (2.24), while also ranking as the 33rd-most
potent offense in the nation. Leading the charge on the offensive side of the field will be reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Year Angela Vultaggio, who
scored 13 goals and a MAC-best 34 points, the second-highest totals of both categories in program history. Vultaggio showed her versitility as well, sharing
the ball by leading the team and conference in assists with eight. She will look to end her career with a strong senior season to place her near the top of
multiple EMU records.
Bianca Rossi, the leading goal-scorer for the Eagles and all-conference performer in 2012, recorded six goals throughout 2013 and will be back for her
final season donning the Green and White. Another returning forward is Megan Trapp, who appeared in all 21 games last year primarily off the bench. She
scored one goal and added two assists while providing quality minutes for Coach Hall’s squad. Also contributing to the EMU attack this season will be a pair
of sophomores in Madison Hirsch and Michelle Rollins.
» MAINSTAY MIDFIELDERS: The biggest losses for the Eagles come in the midfield with 2013 All-MAC First team honorees Stephanie Clarke and Cara Cutaia
earning their bachelor degrees. Nonetheless, a variety of experience is still around for the 2014 campaign.
EMU played the entire 2013 season without Chelsie Oddan, but the redshirt senior is back after suffering a season-ending injury at the beginning of last
year. Joining Oddan on the pitch after being sidelined in 2013 is redshirt-sophomore Ellie Tillar. The redshirt starter started the first game of the season
before a knee injury brought an early end to her season.
Martha Stevens who had a breakout 2013 season in which she scored three goals, including the game-winner in the season-opening contest versus
Detroit. Senior Molli Krick will provide veteran experience in the midfield as well after she started 20 games in 2013. Rounding out the returnees are sophomores Stef Barcelos and Gabriella Mancini. The duo combined to appear in 17 games in their first seasons donning the Green and White, and Barcelos
scored her first collegiate goal of her career in the Eagles’ victory over Stetson. Three freshman will split time on the offensive side of the pitch with the ability
to play both midfield and forward positions: Emma Camp, Irena Dedivani and Kristin Nason.
» REAL MADRID TRAINS AT EMU: It was a memorable day at Eastern Michigan University, July 31, as one of the most prestigious soccer programs in the
world, Real Madrid, invaded Ypsilanti to train at EMU’s Scicluna Field. Cristiano Ronaldo and the rest of Real Madrid practiced on Eastern’s home pitch
Thursday afternoon in preparation for the team’s International Champions Cup match against Manchester United, set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 2, at
Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.
It was a total team effort between the Spanish soccer club and the EMU Department of Athletics to host the private training session. “To have one of the
most world renowned soccer clubs come to Eastern Michigan is a true honor,” remarked EMU Vice President and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. “We
were really pleased with the opportunity to host them here. The recognition of our facilities, our staff and our women’s soccer student-athletes to see this
type of team train here was really the opportunity of a lifetime. This is something we all will remember, especially our student-athletes.”
The EMU soccer team also assisted in staffing the practice, an opportunity that the current Eagles will remember for the rest of their lives. “We were all
surprised and excited,” said junior goalkeeper Megan McCabe. “I’m from outside of Chicago, I made the trip up last night and I’m leaving tonight. It’s a great
opportunity for our school and our team.”
“When I first read the e-mail, my reaction was I need to cancel all of my plans,” remarked Megan Trapp. “It seemed to me that this was a once in a lifetime
opportunity. I’ve never seen an international game and to seeing these players work hard and watching their intensity, their focus, their energy is something
that will motivate us after winning a Mid-American Conference Championship.”
In addition to the excitement of the EMU soccer players, the coaching staff was thrilled about the opportunity as well. It was a chance for the Eagles’
staff to learn from professional players and coaches as well. “I’m speechless to be honest, seeing these guys on our pitch. For the team to be out here and
see them play at this pace and their intensity, this is what soccer dreams are made of,” noted EMU Head Soccer Coach Scott Hall. “Once you get past the
starstruck of seeing Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and all of these guys out here, you just realize that this is an amazing experience.”
Coach Hall also believes that this will benefit the Eagles as the team begins to train themselves for the upcoming season. “I think this brings us together

The home of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Women’s Soccer Regular Season Champions with a capacity of 700, Scicluna Field has hosted EMU women’s soccer competition since
the 1995 season. Through the program's 20 seasons, the Eagles have compiled a record of 103-45-24 on their home pitch. The field is equipped with a full-size scoreboard, perfect for fan
viewing. This past season, Scicluna Field was the site of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals and championship match.
The field is named in honor of Paul Scicluna, the first head coach of the EMU women’s soccer program after it was started in 1994. Scicluna led the team to a 38-32-2 record during his
tenure, including an 11-5-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play in 1997 and 1998. Scicluna died tragically on a recruiting trip in 1999, and the field named in his honor.
