Visual Impairment Consortium for Teacher Preparation
Earn a Teaching
Endorsement Online
How to Get Started
• Submit a program application to
Western Michigan University.
The Michigan Department of Education
(MDE) has created a way to obtain a
visual impairment endorsement through
its partnership with several universities
and schools and agencies for the Blind.
Choose courses from any of the
participating universities.
Classes are primarily offered through:
• Online courses
• Webinars
• Video conferencing
Some courses may require on-site
visits, including courses at out-of-state
universities. These face-to-face meetings
will be scheduled in the summer or over
weekends. Check the course listings
online for details.
Partial tuition
reimbursement
is available to students
who are certified teachers
in Michigan and eligible
for the program.
• Submit a plan of study upon
acceptance of application.
Required Program Courses
Courses are available through multiple
universities. Course titles, credit hours,
and tuition rates will vary among
participating universities.
