By the time you receive this newsletter, it will be only two days or so before
you meet your pastoral candidate, Pr. Skip Wachsmann. Then the following week
you will take a congregational vote on whether to call him. If everything goes
according to (God's) plan, he and you will begin sharing ministry by late July or
early August. Praise be to God!
That means it will have been almost 18 months since you have had a
permanently called pastor. While that amount of time is hardly unheard of when
it comes to interim periods, it can still feel like a long time. But now your wait has
most likely come to an end, and you are beginning to feel that surge of energy
and hope that comes when a newly called pastor arrives on the scene. Please be
sure to also be open and even embrace changes that he and other church leaders
will bring before you.
As a result of your calling Pastor Skip and his acceptance of the call, that
means, of course, that my leave-taking will soon take place. Having served as
your temporary minister, I have developed close working relationships with many
of you at Lord of Life. We have communicated many times over the last 18
months—in phone calls, e-mails, and face-to-face conversations. After I leave
Lord of Life, all those communications will cease, as will my availability for any
future pastoral acts. A clean break is necessary so you and your newly called
pastor can get off to a good start in shared ministry.
I have enjoyed getting to know you during my time at Lord of Life. You are a
very talented group of people and will continue to have much to offer to God
and neighbor as you live out your common Christian calling. I hope my service
among you has been helpful and that you will forgive me for any mistakes or
wrongs I have committed or, for that matter, any omissions as well.
Let me leave you with a few verses from Paul's Letter to the Philippians that
express my regard for you:
“I thank my God every time I remember you,...because of your sharing in the
gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began
a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ …
And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of
Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of
righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.
Blessing,
Alan J. Watt
Interim Pastor

KINDRED SISTER NEWS
Kindred Sisters will have their June meeting on Tuesday, June 4th, at 10:30
a.m. in the Koinonia Cafe. We will "see through Susan's eyes" as Susan Breyer
presents a Travelogue of their trip to Europe and Asia, including beautiful
churches, cathedrals, mosques, and the Vatican. All ladies and friends of LOLLC
are invited to join us in fellowship. Please bring your own sack lunch. Dessert
and drinks will be provided by Joanne Forseth, our hostess this month. If you
have any questions, please call Joanne Forseth at 512-986-7387.
Our meeting on May 7th was highlighted by a very timely Bible Study
presented by Marge Kretschmar entitled "Now is the Time". We shared Bible
readings and a discussion and learned that "now is the time" to let the Holy
Spirit guide us in witnessing our faith to others, and practicing our faith in our
daily and church lives. Everyone enjoyed their sack lunch and a delicious dessert
provided by Olga Haenel, our
hostess.
We will NOT have a July meeting,
but we will meet again in August.
Have a Blessed summer month of
June!
COFFEE ON THE DECK
Join us for Coffee on the Deck at 9:00a.m. before worship through the Summer!
Come for the fellowship before church starts at 9:30. If anyone would like to,
cookies will be welcome. Will also have lemonade. See you there!

YOUTH FOCUS
Our May Youth get-together included helping make signs and organizing
goods donated for SafePlace. LOLLC was able to donate 6 large grocery
bags of items for women and children (diapers, wipes, clothing, books, arts/
crafts, health kit items and more) They were quite appreciative, and I'm
sure they will have good use for the items we sent.
After dinner, the Youth 'hiked' over to the Davis Pool next door. They
enjoyed water and playground fun and were very well-mannered and
respectful of the other people and young children in the pool with them.
Kudos to our Youth!

MEET & GREET
A Meet-&-Greet event with Pastor Skip Wachsmann and the
LOLLC Congregation is scheduled for June 2nd from
3pm - 6pm, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. We are planning
a bible study format, led by Pastor Skip, followed by a
formal Q&A session for about 1 hour. Pastor Wachsmann will
be available to meet with congregants in an informal setting
until about 6pm. Light refreshments will be served and nursery
will be provided.
OFFICE HOURS UPDATE
The Council has considered a request from David Pencil to
reduce his hours as Office Manager. Effective this month, the
Office Manager will staff the office Monday – Thursday,
11am – 3pm. The council is requesting volunteers to staff the
office on Friday, nominally 11am – 3pm, mainly to take calls,
receive visitors and perform light-duty administrative tasks
such as filing. If interested, please speak with David Pencil,
Dick Fink or one of the council members.

SOUTHWEST TEXAS ASSEMBLY REPORT
This year the synod assembly met on May 4th and 5th, 3013, in Kerrville, Texas. Voting members from Lord of
Life were Lloyd and Barbara Haskins and Pastor Alan.
Our synod camping program, Cross Trails Ministry, was the recipient of this year's special offering, in order to
lower its mortgage for recent capital improvements. The offering totaled $69, 506.47! That's almost 50% of
the debt that was still remaining!
Besides receiving the reports of various individuals and groups, voting members considered several resolutions
and memorials, all of which were approved. They focused on the following issues:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Prevent Bullying, Harassment, and Related Violence.
Prohibit Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity.
Support of the Uniting American Families Act.
Relationship with the Lutheran Church of Costa Rica.
Memorial Resolution Support for Peacemaking with Justice in Israel and Palestine.
Compassionate, Just, and Wise Immigration Legislation Now.
For a detailed summary, please log on to the online version of the synod newsletter, The Vista.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
A Congregational Meeting to vote on the Call to Pastor Skip Wachsmann as Pastor to Lord of Life will be on
Sunday, June 9, following the 9:30am service (summer worship schedule). The Congregational Meeting would
likely start 10:30am or soon after. The business of the Congregational Meeting will be to vote on the Call to
Pastor Skip Wachsmann (2/3 majority required to extend the call) and to vote on the Pastoral Compensation
Package (simple majority required for approval). All confirmed members are voting members of the
congregation. No other business will be conducted. You must be present to vote; there is no provision for
voting in absentia.
WEED WHACKING
If you can occasionally spare an hour, we
could use some help with weed whacking around our
church property.
If interested please contact
Alan or Susan Breyer at 996-8534 or
breyerhaustxaudi1907@austin.rr.com and we will
suggest a work area. Thank you.
