Team-Bacolod invades PDMEcological Park for an ecoenvironmental activity
Meeting the demands of the industry means elevating the level
of quality of the services offered by the school. To reach this point,
the institution submits itself to a series of accreditations through
which an accrediting body evaluates the capacity of the school in all
its areas of operation such as its purposes and objectives, faculty,
instruction, library, laboratories, physical plant and facilities, student
personnel services, social orientation and community involvement,
and organization and administration, and research.

Research had been one of the areas that faced the ordeal during
the PACUCOA Level III accreditation which took place on March 12-14,
2012. Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Research Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod,
came face-to-face for a half-day close encounter with Dr. Ellen S. N.
Salac, Chairman of the PACUCOA accrediting team, where during
the verification of documents, she had to convince the team of the
unit’s strong research culture. Dr. Eda C. Ticao (Director for Research
and Extension), Dr. Lourdes C. Arañador (Director for Academics),
Mr. Joaquin G. Evidente (former System Internal Auditor), and Engr.
Roberto Neal Sobrejuanite (present System Internal Auditor) also came
over to give support to JBLCF-Bacolod during the accreditation audit.
Where Research is concerned, the following points were thoroughly
investigated and discussed:

Team-Bacolod invades PDM-Ecological Park
for an eco-environmental activity
Despite the scorching heat and long walks across Puerto del Mar, the
team of JBLCF-Bacolod faculty and staff endured the challenge of sharing their
best efforts in protecting and preserving the environment. For a change, the
team building activity held at the JBLFMU Ecological Park on April 30-May 2,
2012 featured various eco-environmental activities such as mangrove planting,
bagging of mangrove propagules, and clean-up activity in different areas of the
EcoPark. Tasked to facilitate the conduct of the said activity, the Research and
Community Extension Services with the tandem of Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Unit
Research Coordinator and Mr. Joemil G. Galve, CES Officer and their staff had
diligently put into action the concepts raised by the Administrator, Capt. Luis G.
Evidente, despite the moans and groans of protest from the participants who
eventually realized the true value of each drop of sweat and every twinge of
body pain suffered for the cause of giving one’s self for a noble cause.
It was not just a test of will and commitment for the team; it was also
a test of physical endurance. After the long hurdle, the different participating
teams---the Green Team, Blue Team, Yellow Team, and Red Team---competed

John B. Lacson Colleges FoundationBacolod in its mission to provide quality
education and training through instruction and
research and its unrelenting quest for excellence
conducted the a Workshop on the Formulation
of the Research Agenda and Annual Plan for the
Academic Year 2012-2013 last May 22, 2012 at
the MLA Conference Room.
The Research Committee representing the
different areas of the institution convened and
drafted the Research Agenda and came up with
a list of topics for research for SY 2012-2013.
Together, the committee also drafted the Research
Plan which comprises the line of activities to be
held and conducted within the school year. The
Research Office under the supervision of Dr.
Emeliza T. Estimo, Unit Research Coordinator,
initiated the said activity. She also gave an
overview of the workshop and discussed the need
Dr. Ruby D. Causing (above) and Engr. Liza E. Martinez (below)
as among the echo –presenters
to conduct such an activity. Expectations were
clarified at the start of the workshop.
Dr. Araceli C. Doromal, Unit Academic
Coordinator and Consultant to the Research
Committee gave insights on the formulation of the
Research Agenda and emphasized that it should be
drawn in line with the JBLF system Seven-Point
Agenda. On the other hand Dr. Sylvino V. Tupas,
Unit QA Manager, encouraged the participants
to hold an annual workshop in order to generate
more topics or titles which will be given not
only to the Research Committee members but
also to the faculty members who are willing or
committed to conduct a study. This could be one
of the best practices that the unit could adopt in
order to produce more research papers which can
be presented in local, national, or international
conferences. (Ms. Cynthia U. Buga-ay)

Another Teaching-Learning Experience for the JBLCF-Bacolod
participants at PSERE Conference
Participants of 20th Annual Conference of Philippine Society for Educational Research and Evaluation, Inc. (PSERE) 2012 including eight participants from JBLCF-Bacolod
Meeting new people or being put into a situation where you
have to mingle with others you do not know could happen in a
convention or seminar. Whether you are the outgoing “can talk to
anyone about anything type” or a complete wallflower, conversing
with others is something you can master. What is uncertain is the
teaching and learning-experience that you will gain.
Last May 10-11, 2012, there were eight participants from
JBLCF-Bacolod who attended the 20th Annual Conference of
Philippine Society for Educational Research and Evaluation, Inc.

Indeed, it is another teaching-learning experience for
JBLCF-Bacolod participants to realize that meeting the needs of
the future depends on how well we balance social, economic,
and environmental objectives--or needs--when making decisions
today. We need to explore some of the social, economic, and
environmental challenges that are part of the sustainable
development and always strive to draw a balance between working
toward development and sustaining the environment. (Dr. Ruby D.

VOLUME 6 NO. 1 Capt. Luis G. Evidente in his share of being interviewed by Dr. Ellen S. N. Salac, Chairman of the
PACUCOA accrediting team
RESEARCH NEWSLETTER 13 Dr. Salac also raised questions related to research incentives,
research opportunities, and research budget. All in all, she gave stress
on the importance of elevating the quality of papers produced to be
worthy of national and international presentation and publication.
Moreover, she pointed out that the school, to prepare itself for Level
IV accreditation, should advance itself from doing action researches
to engaging in applied research and developmental research in the
context of the different disciplines and programs offered by the school.
Dr. Salac also placed emphasis on doing collaborative researches with
external institutions or organizations.
Research in JBLCF-Bacolod may have made a marked
improvement in the past years. This accomplishment is a monument
of the joint effort exerted by everyone in the Research Committee
under leadership of the Unit Research Coordinator and the able
assistance of its Chair and Vice-Chair, 2/M Cezar F. Chin and 2/M Jovito
G. Geroso. However, JBLCF-Bacolod is yet to hurdle more challenging
encounters with what is yet to come as it prepares itself for the next
level of accreditation. Together as a community, we believe there is
hope for us to meet our goals. But then in achieving this, we need to
strengthen our conviction to work together for the attainment of this
goal. (Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo)
from page 2  6 Papers presented...
Dr. Angelina Irapta, Founder/Convener of REDTI, in her opening
message stressed the importance of doing quality researches that would
go across disciplines since according to her it is in research that we can
find solutions to the dilemma and phenomenon this world is facing
today. This was supported by the welcome message of Dr. Editha L.
Magallanes, President of CAPSU, who stressed the same reasons of
why CapSU bravely hosted such a big event and who pointed out the
strengthening of research program of the university as another factor.
Along with almost a hundred colleges and universities all over the
Philippines who responded to the invitation, John B. Lacson Colleges
Foundation-Bacolod, an institution who also strives to strengthen its
research program as stipulated in its Seven-point Agenda, sent six
faculty researchers who travelled miles away from home to attend and
present their papers in the said conference.
Inspired by Michael Porter’s view that “the competitiveness of a
nation depends on the capacity of its industry to innovate and improve,”
all 203 presenters braved the challenge of inculcating innovations and
improvement through the different paper presentations which varied
from the most common topics to the most complex findings and
analysis. The following presented their papers at the conference:
1. Mrs. Mylene Melanie R. Cañada: An Analysis on Topic Content
and Interview Protocol: Baseline Data for Pre-Embarkation and
Placement Preparedness
2. Dr. Richard C. Gabilagon: Teacher’s Teaching competence,
Learners’ Language Competence and TOEIC Results: Basis for

Cruz of St. Louis University, Baguio City; Dr. Myrna R. Batino of
TUP-Cavite Campus; and Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag of Pamantasan ng
Lungsod ng Makati who provided helpful inputs for the participants’
improvement and excellence in their future research endeavour.
Through this collaborative endeavour, JBLCF-Bacolod’s research team
will surely be motivated to innovate and improve its research outputs
in order to produce researches that would cross the borders and across
disciplines. (Ms.Mylene Melanie R. Cañada)
