Opao, both instructors of the Business Department attended a Regional Course on Research Management with focus on Government Protocols together with the Unit Research Coordinator, Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo and Community Extension Officer, Mr. Joemil G. Galve. The course was held in La Consolacion College-Main Campus on August 5-6, 2011 with the objective of enhancing the participants’ awareness of some government protocols governing Research-related undertakings that require permits and consent of the locality from which research data are to be gathered. Examples of such governance is the Indigenous People Right Act (RA 8371) which requires the conduct of Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) if a study concerns with or is within the territory of a group of indigenous people (IP) and the RA 9147 also known as the “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act” which allows any individual or entity to engage in noncommercial, scientific, or educational undertaking to collect wildlife with a Gratuitous Permit coming from different government agencies depending on the species under study. Other objectives of the course were for the participants to be familiar with the different government requirements necessary in the implementation of varied types of research ; to identify the types of research that needs government permits; to point out which government office is responsible in releasing permits to a particular type of research; to gain tips from experienced research managers on how to secure documents needed to acquire permits; and to get a chance to confer with representatives from concerned permit-releasing government agencies. The course was another new area of information gained by the participants who were sent by the school. We look forward to attending more trainings and taking up more courses to enhance our knowledge of Research. (Extreme L&R): Mr. Juancho S.
