June 29, 2016 Pastor’s thoughts... INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Nursery Schedule .. 2 Heather’s Update .. 4 Monthly… .............. 5 Consistory minutes..6 The last week of June is here. This weekend is the 4th of July. I don’t really think I need to say too much about that. I believe we are all a little stunned how quickly this has gone. Summer is going fast. I know there are still lots of days left, but it does get away from us. We are planning a couple of things to do before it’s over. I think we had better get at it though. I hope you are all having some good moments with your friends. Enjoy…be safe! The senior high is at Burke this week. This year’s camp is the largest it has ever been. The lodge is full and Liz has worked so hard to bring this all together. They have so much to get done and so many exciting ways of doing what they are going to do and learn. I say every year this comes around that those of us who worked with young people learned very early on that the setting was less important…it was that being away and spending extended time together that made the difference. It was taking time to get away and do something different and sitting together for an extended period of time about spiritual things. I know they will have a great time, but I also know seeds are being planted that will over time make a difference. Be praying for them as the week continues. Anna Roetman just got back last week from a mission trip in east Tennessee last week. She is going to be bringing us a presentation here in the near future with some photos and thoughts of her experience. She said it was busy week for them, but it was a great experience. I am looking forward to hearing more about it in the coming weeks. degree completed while they have been with us. During that time we have had Brent help us with a number of things around the church to get a taste of what church is like, but also to help him with all that the things that come with being in seminary. This connection has been good for us and also for them. Brent is a good friend. He has a new opportunity now to be in another church part-time. I think it’s a great opportunity. He will get to preach every week for them and do what “preachers” do and yet still have time to good to school and stay plugged into some of our things here as well. He can tell you all more about it, but he said he could see God’s hand all over this one. I would agree. We will be doing a commissioning Sunday coming up in July. We are not certain as to which Sunday yet, but we are working on those details. Brent and I talk often and I am so happy for him in this new place. I really believe this will so enhance his skills as he moves ahead with this chapter of his life. Congrats Brent, Stacy, and family! Sunday we continue with our series. I know it will be the 4th of July weekend and the numbers could be down a bit, but let me just say. This week our theme will be “a letter from Jesus”. If he were to pen a note for us…what would it say? I am really looking forward to this one. I am looking forward to hear throughout the week what he is saying to me. Have you taken the time this week to sit down and have some time with Him? If so…I wonder what he has been saying to you? We’ll talk more on Sunday, have a great week! I have some news from the Eliason family as well. As you are all aware Brent and his family have been a part of our church for some time now and Brent has been working to get his seminary New church phone directories can be picked up at The Link. Please let Holli know if there are changes. 1 July 3: July 10: 9:00am— Matt & Kristi Mouw Lorena Sazama 11:00am— Nora Van Aartsen Anna Roetman 9:00am— Jason Klocker Mellissa Tromblee Sarah Wilkenson 11:00am— Tyler & Amber Nieuwsma If you are able to fill an open spot in the nursery, please call or text Sheri @ 605-261-2153 REQUESTS FOR MEMBERSHIP & BAPTISM… If you would like to request membership, please e-mail the church office at connect@communityrc.org to set up a time to attend a “Starting Point Class” (1st Sunday of the month @ 10:10am). Summer is officially here and that means VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is coming soon! Join us each evening August 14-17. We will have VBS fun for kids ages three through Middle School. There is also nursery offered for younger kids. We need many, many helpers to make VBS happen and we try to make it easy for the volunteers. Please take a moment to sign up volunteers and children at the table in the lobby email Heather with questions or if you are interested. Even if you aren’t able to volunteer, I invite you to just come spend some time watching the kids as they learn and have fun together. God always loves on us all so beautifully during VBS. There is no Sunday School during the summer but we will start again on September 18. I will be looking for teachers in the next few months so if you already know which age group you’d like to teach, please feel free to send me an email and I’ll add you to my list. I’m reviewing options for curriculum for the 3rd and 4th grade classes. If you are interested in providing input on that, please let me know so I can share our options with you. See you soon! He talked about the fact that he’s a farmer. He talked about the amazing technology that’s available in farming equipment. The first time you let go of the steering wheel and let the tractor drive a straight line it’s scary. The same is true of God. The first time we let go and let God, it can be scary, but we can never draw the line as straight as God can. Trusting in God to do what God does is crucial to our lives. He opened with prayer. MSA to approve the May 2016 minutes. Darin gave the May 2016 financial report. MSA to approve the May 2016 financial report. MSA to do a fall 2016 debt reduction campaign and to begin the planning process. Spencer reported that we have a warranty on the roof. Hopefully some of the bills we have had to repair it can be reimbursed. A roofing company will be coming out to fix the roof and repair the leaking problems. We are also going to have the roof inspected and marked so the guys know exactly what needs to be fixed. Liz gave her report. Sherri came tonight to report on the nursery. It’s going well but she needs to fix the problem with volunteers not showing up. She asked some questions in order to get information from the board about volunteering. Good discussion followed about some ways to potentially help. Clyde reported about the Committee for Future Ministry Needs. They’ve met a couple of times and they are having some great discussion. They are learning about what happens in the transition from small church to large church (at least 800 people). See handout for the report about their meeting. Clyde also had the committee read “Process Managing Church Growth” by Tim Keller. He also gave the Consistory the article so they could read it to and begin to understand how the dynamics of a larger church have to change in order to accommodate their growth.
