Chelsea Primary School 10th December, 2015 Dates to Remember: Chelsea Primary School Newsletter Issue: 2015-37 News from the Principal December Christmas Concert 15th - Prep to Year 5 Reports sent home There was certainly “tu-tu” much fun at the Christmas concert last night. The weather was perfect for the occasion and it was great to see so many families enjoying picnics together. I would like to thank everyone in the community for supporting this event. It is a fantastic way to celebrate the year that was. I’m sure photos from the night will start appearing on the blog very soon. 16th - Year 6 Graduation dinner 15th and 16th - Beach safety 17th - Year 6 Big Day Out Staffing news Year 6 Reports sent home It is with sadness that we say farewell to Nicky Smith who will be teaching at St. Leonards for 2016. Nicky has contributed to Chelsea PS in so many ways over the past two years. She has taught in the Bunjil and the Birralee, been our Bike Ed teacher, trained the first Chelsea PS aerobics team and choreographed some outstanding performances for the school production and Christmas Concert. 18th - End of year: Last assembly 12.45pm Early dismissal 1.30pm January 2016 28th - First day of Term for students Principal: Michelle Liddle Assistant Principal: Jan Smith Enquiries: School Office 9773 2055 Argyle Ave Chelsea 3196 Web: www.chelseaps.vic.edu.au Melways Reference 97 C2 Last Friday we finalised our staffing for 2016. On Tuesday all students met their teachers for next year. I would like to welcome Rob Guy, Andrew Cumming and Jessica Doolan to our staff. Unfortunately, Rob is overseas at present so was not able to meet his class, however many of the students know Rob well from the Year 3/4 camp and his work in the Birralee. Currently, Ms Heaton is on leave and the positions of Art and PE will be confirmed at the beginning of 2016. Our uniform provider, PSW, has processed a large number of new polo tops available to all students when the store reopened on 4th January. There will be limited stock of the new brand hats at the start of the year, as priority will be with Prep 2016 students. These families will be contacted by the school next week. In anticipation of the cooler weather, windcheaters and bomber jackets will be available from early March. The new price list is now available via the PSW website. I appreciate your patience at this time. Our School Council, in conjunction with our school community, have worked hard to finalise the new logo and uniform to ensure availability next year. As previous communicated, the new uniform will be phased in over the next two years so there is no expectation for families to make this investment immediately. Students enjoyed a range of activities including creating personal flags and dream classrooms, the playing the snowball game and Gingerbread Glyph! Thank you to the teachers and the administration staff for all the hard work in organising a ‘taste’ of what’s in store for our students next year and the time spent organising classes and classrooms. Many of our Year 6 students had their orientation day at secondary college on Tuesday. This transition can be quite a daunting experience for students (and parents) however many stories of new friends, teachers, lockers, different bells and learning spaces were shared on their return. FINAL ASSEMBLY ON 18TH DECEMBER 2015 Our final assembly will take place on Friday 18th December at 12.45pm when we bid farewell to our 2015 Year 6 students. We warmly welcome our parents to attend. Students will be dismissed at 1.30pm. WHAT A FABULOUS YEAR AT CHELSEA PRIMARY! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone! What another fantastic year it’s been at Chelsea Primary School working with Michelle and such a great group of teachers and staff. We are so fortunate have such wonderful students, staff and community who all make Chelsea PS such a special place. Last night’s Christmas concert was a fabulous example. What a night although there were a few very odd looking ballet dancers who made an appearance! The success of Chelsea PS doesn’t just happen by chance – it stems from the collaboration and community spirit that is created when students, staff and parents come together on a shared journey. I would therefore like to thank all members of our school community - School Council, FOC, fundraisers, grant seekers, gardeners and working bee-ers for their inspiration and support to make our school such a success during 2015! To our year 6 students who are leaving Chelsea PS, I wish you all the very best in the next chapter of your schooling. You have grown into a mature and responsible group of young people. It has been great getting to know you all. We all look forward to your graduation next Wednesday evening and your return visits early next year. I can imagine many Year 6 parents can remember dropping your child off for their very first day of Primary School and now you are very close to seeing them move onto their next school chapter. Thank you to our Year 6 families for their support over their years at Chelsea. I wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and a relaxing holiday period, and look forward to catching up with all your news on Thursday the 28th January 2016. Jan Smith Assistant Principal LOST PROPERTY The Never ending pile of uniforms is growing in the Birralee Building. Please take a look. If not claimed by the end of the school term, we will be donating them to the second hand uniform store. Thank you THANK YOU A big thank you to Danni Mearns (Mum of Chloe 3/4N) who attends to Scholastic Book Club day after day doing such a wonderful job for Students and Teachers. We really appreciate all you do.
