Dear AYC Families,
The 2016 summer season is in full swing. We celebrated
our Past Commodores with our Past Commodore’s Reception,
June 12. Congratulations to Patrick and Deirdre McAleer; your
official Commodore Flag is part of history in our main Dinning
Room. We also welcomed new members at a recent cocktail
reception, June 18. We are thrilled to have them as part of the
AYC family! The first deck party of the season took place last Saturday night with
the Corner Boys. Thank you to Roberta, Tom and Jack Juska for a fabulous “Big
Fat Yacht Club Wedding”. Many brides, grooms and bridesmaids danced the night
away on the north deck. Our Youth and Sailing Camp started last Monday. We are
very lucky to have Grace Bluefled at the helm, as our Youth Director. Camp is off
to a wonderful start!

AVALON YACHT CLUB WOMEN'S AUXILIARY
Congratulations to one of the luckiest people in Avalon
– Frank Pellegrini! Frank was the lucky winner of the
Women’s Auxiliary 2016 Parking Lot Raffle. Many thanks
to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket this year. Also, a
big thank you to Chair and Past President, Angie Cullen, for
running this event. Tickets for the 2017 parking space will
be on sale this fall.
The Women’s Auxiliary Book Club began the year with
their first meeting on Monday, June 20th. Many thanks to
Marlene Mohr for organizing the book club this season.

I would like to thank those of you that came out for the
Women’s Auxiliary June Meeting and Event. A special
thank you to Justin Weathers, from Stove & Top, for giving

Friday, July 29 • 3PM at 39th Street Courts
$20 Fee (Bring to Courts day of Tournament). There is a sign up sheet
located on board at AYC. All levels are welcome!! Sign up with or

Avalon Tennis would like to offer AYC members and friends a
YOUTH CLINIC NIGHT. Children and adults can come for an hour
and a half on Wednesday nights from 6-7:30pm at the 8th street tennis
courts. The cost is $25 per child. Bill would prefer at least 4 people to

FITNESS CLASSES ON THE DECK
The AYC is please to offer fitness classes for our members on
the North Deck.
Instructors Carol and Jason will help you stay fit and flexible
all summer long. Carol Reitter Elia is an ACE certified personal trainer and
group fitness instructor who has been teaching fitness for over
25 years. Carol is a registered 500 Hour Yoga Instructor with the
Yoga Alliance and Yogalife institute and also a certified Silver
Sneakers Instructor, practicing Ashtanga and Vinyasa styles of
Yoga. She is also a trained Reiki practioner.
Jason Yellin a former collegiate kicker at the University of
Florida/professional kicker in the arena league, and a standout
soccer and baseball athlete. Jason turned his passion for athletics
over to fitness. His cutting edge training programs are enjoyed
across the Philadelphia/South Jersey regions.
Tuesdays at 10am: Yoga (ALL LEVELS) - Carol Reitter Elia
Wake up your body by the bay with a 60 minute all levels yoga
practice moving and flowing thru Vinyasa poses providing
core strengthening and stretching for every part of your body. Wednesdays at 10am: Boot Camp - Jason Yellin
Beach Body Boot Camp is geared towards anyone wishing to
burn calories and increase lean muscle regardless of age or
fitness ability. With this unique circuit style training format
you will experience a fun, cardio packed workout. No two
workouts will be the same. Thursdays at 10:30am: Chair Based Yoga - Carol Reitter Elia
Join Carole for a 60-minute chair based yoga practice which
will guide you into your rhythmic breath and add simple,
but effective movements. Using the chair as both prop and
a seat, you will explore and find inner peace through breath,
alignment and movement
Classes will begin on June 28 and run for 10 weeks concluding
on September 1 - that is 10 classes for $120. If you wold not
like to register for the entire 10 weeks, the single session rate

offers spectacular views and a large outdoor balcony.

ADULT SAILING LESSONS
Learn to sail!
All AYC adult members are welcome! The goal of
this sailing clinic is to teach some basic sailing skills
and to provide an opportunity for inexperienced and experienced adults to get out on the water. Sailboats are
welcome; however boat ownership is not a prerequisite
to the class.
Clinic dates: Sunday, July 10 and
Sunday August 7, 2016
Time:
11:00am to 1:00pm
Fee: There will be no charge for the class this
year; however a reservation is recommended.
RSVP: Kindly let me know if you are interested,
if you have any sailing experience and if you have
access to a sailboat. This will help us to plan
accordingly. You should bring a life jacket and
wear water shoes.

The AYC Summer Series is set! Gear up to participate in
these July Regattas. Awards are given for each regatta; and
there are also several coveted Perpetual Awards given at Family Night based of
overall participation and performance. Get there early and get
your boat ready to launch...we are hoping to sail 3 races!

Show your patriotic spirit and sail in the Independence
Day Regatta - Saturday, July 2, 10am. Everyone is invited
to the Sailors' Buffet Lunch at 1pm & Award Presentation at
1:30.

Come out for a fun day of sailing while helping others!
Adult sailors with some experience are always
welcome to come out and sail in the “AYC Summer
Series.” These regattas are scheduled for Saturdays at
10 am on July 16, August 6, and August 13. Patrol boats
are on the water. Practice your new sailing skills, and
then enjoy a Sailors’ Lunch @ 1pm on the North Deck
and Awards Presentation @ 1:30.
Plan to participate in the Twilight Sail/Poker
Regatta on Friday, July 15 at 5:30pm. See page 7 for
more information.
New Sailors are welcome to race in the Mother/
Father Regatta & Old Timers Regatta on August
27. Skippers’ Meeting is 10:00am. Team up with your
Mother, Father, son or daughter, and/or compete with
the Old Masters. Lots of fun and prizes!
Spectators are always welcome and appreciated!
The Adult Sailing Program is looking for volunteers
to help out with Race Committee for their Friday Evening Laser Series and to assist with the Flying Scots during the upcoming Inter-clubs races during the summer
series. It won't take too much of your time and its fun
to share in the camaraderie. If interested please contact

The Olivia Constants Foundation- based in Annapolis
MD- was founded in 2011 in honor of Olivia Constants, a
young sailor who lived her life with a compassion and understanding for others. Though her life ended too soon, the
Foundation has been working to continue her positive impact
on others through various volunteer efforts. The mission of
the foundation is "to do all the good we can, for whomever
we can, in the spirit of Olivia". Please join us for this fun and
impactful day!

ICE CREAM @ 1pm on North Deck***
(There will also be raffle items and good stuff
from OCF sold during lunch.)

The Avalon Cup will be held on Saturday July 30th this year and it will be here before we know it. Our
