Obesity rates have stabilized in Minnesota, while rates in the U.S. and other neighboring states have increased. Minnesotans at a healthy weight in 2013 has increased by more than 60,000 since 2010 and is more than 11 percent higher than the U.S. as a whole. 23 Why Prevention? Why SHIP? Youth smoking fell from 18.1 percent, to just over 10 percent, the steepest decline ever recorded by the Minnesota Youth Tobacco Survey. Similarly, the adult smoking rate fell to 14.4 percent in 2014, down from 16.1 percent in 2010. 24 25
