Renville County Tobacco Ordinance
Ordinance Updates Include:
• Electronic cigarette language additions compatible with state law
• Sales prohibited by pharmacies
• Education requirements for all employees of tobacco licensee
• Minimum price per cigar at $2.10 in packages less than seven
• 1000 feet or more proximity of retailers from youth-oriented facilities
• Increased administrative penalties for failing compliance checks
• Prohibiting hookah, sampling, or smoking lounges

Why Prevention? Why SHIP?
Obesity rates have stabilized in Minnesota, while rates
in the U.S. and other neighboring states have
increased.
Minnesotans at a healthy weight in 2013 has increased by more
than 60,000 since 2010 and is more than 11 percent higher than
the U.S. as a whole.

Youth smoking fell from 18.1 percent,
to just over 10 percent, the steepest
decline ever recorded by the
Minnesota Youth Tobacco Survey.
Similarly, the adult smoking rate fell to
14.4 percent in 2014, down from 16.1
percent in 2010.
