STRATFORD, ONTARIO N5A 3.J2 519-271-1609 November 25, 2013 Joan Thomson, City Clerk City of Stratford ,, We would like to addr, ess the Parking issue at Parkview United Church. Earlier this year, we lost our parking privileges in the lot directly across from the church on Parkview Street. We did not own this property but used it for many years and looked after the snow removal each winter. The loss of this parking has had a huge impact on attendance and has inconvenienced many people as they search for near.by parking. Rev. Tom Beecroft, Minister and Ken Roth, Property Chairman spoke to Mayor Dan Mathieson regarding our parking dilemma and he suggested a formal letter outlining our suggestions would be appropriate. In that regard, we hope that the City can assist us with finding suitable parking solutions. Some suggestions are: • Parking on Ontario street on Sunday. It has been pointed out that there is parking on Huron Sire.et on Sundays to accommodate worship at St. Joseph's Church. • Parking bn Water Street all day from Queen Street to Parkview Street, as it is on Cobourg Street, to accommodate day time activities ai; well as Sunday services. Currently, there is No Parking from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday. On Sunday, parking is allowed from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon but we often are in the church past this time or have events booked in t.he afternoon. • There is also No Parking on the laneway from Parkview Street to Tennis Courts Parking Lot which is a lot of unused space. Perhaps a small parking lot could be created on the south side of this laneway. We know that some of the sugg!ilsted Parking options will be used by Theatre guests but it might also free up some extra spaces on Parkview and Cobourg Streets for church use during weekly functions. With our close proximity to the Festival, we are challenged for Parking during the Festival season. We have been told that a number of $20.00 parking tickets have been issued to church members in the past, particularly· on Water Street. As this Parking issue will continue into the future, we would appreciate working with you to find an amicable resolution to this problem. If you require further information, please contact Rev. Tom Beecroft at the church 519-271-1609 parkviewunited@bellnet.ca or Ken Roth 519-271-8871 belkenroth@rogers.com Yours truly, Rev. After surveying the merchants of the street, it became clear that a significant number of business owners is opposed to these closures. At the least, the closures are an interruption to business and, at worst, result in a loss of business. Our tourist season is not year-round, but we are on the street twelve months of the year, paying rent and/or taxes, so the loss of even one crucial summer weekend is a hardship and negatively impacts our bottom line. We support the varied activities in our downtown, but we need to co- exist to our mutual benefit. To this end, we ask that the York Street lot be kept open at all times.
