Introduction
Tehzeeb Foundation of Pakistan is working for the advancement and
promotion of music, literature and fine arts in Pakistan. It is also carrying
out preservation and archiving of classical music of the sub-continent.
It is a not-for-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration
Act 1860.
Tehzeeb aims at bringing the finesse of fine arts and classical music to
the society. It also aims at the revival of the aesthetic culture in the shape
of peace and harmony. We believe in promoting art and the artiste at
the same time.
In order to achieve our goal:
• We hold annual festivals, music recitals and literary gatherings
wherein eminent artists/writers of India, Pakistan, UK, Germany,
France and rest of the world are invited to participate.
• We give annual Tehzeeb Awards for excellence in the fields of
literature, fine arts and classical and folk music of the subcontinent.
Awards are decided by a committee comprising of senior writers,
intellectuals and subject specialists.
• We produce music and other publications in the shape of audio CDs,
DVDs and books.
• We provide financial assitance to senior artists who are in their
twilight years. We also provide guidence / capacity building to younger
upcoming artists.
Purpose of these activities is to establish a case for culture in Pakistan.
It is also intented to provide a forum to creative minds to show case
their art and talent. We help them in getting due exposure to a national
and international audience and readership.
Our festivals / recitals are attended by music lovers and connoiseurs
whose number has been ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand
people as per the nature of the event. Our programmes are professionally

We collaborate with like-minded organizations including British Council,
Alliance Francaise, Goethe Institute, APMC Lahore, NAPA, PNCA and
others.
Tehzeeb team comprises of people from diverse fields committed to the
4
cause of culture. Sharif Awan and Malahat Awan have been instrumental

mindfull of the impediments. We are very clear that culture is a very
serious business. We can only reclaim our glorious past by carrying
forword the tradition to become mainstream of the future. We have the
patronage of legendary personalities of Urdu literature such as Mushtaq
Ahmad Yousufi, Zehra Nigah, and others. Our EC has representation
from education, industry, business and professional sectors. All of them
have one thing in common: their commitment to the cause! Our team
also includes younger volunteers.

Our 2-day Sitar Festival was yet another hallmark - being the
first of its kind in the history of Pakistan.
The idea behind the festival was to explore the possibilities of
Sitar, which is otherwise, the most well-known eastern instrument
in the world. It is our pride that senior most sitarists such as the
phenomenal Ustad Rais Khansahib and the youngest performers
like Turab Ali assembled together to exhibit and explore the
nuances of sitar music.
