NORTHWEST JEWELRY CONFERENCE
Seattle, WA
Once a year a select group of experts come to the Pacific Northwest to present
vibrant period jewelry sessions. This is the Northwest Jewelry Conference (NWJC), hosted by
Northwest Gemological Institute (NGI).
Jewelry historians, scientists, curators, stone cutters and jewelry artists are invited to teach not
only for expertise and insight but for their passion.
Hands on workshops and demonstrations add to the discussion; participants
are encouraged to bring articles that pertain to session topics. Students are a mix of
collectors, jewelers, estate dealers, appraisers and budding gemologists. The
presenters also become students, further adding to the repartee and learning. Strong
business and personal relationships are forged in the intimate classroom setting.
Al Gilbertson signing his
book, “American Cut”
Period jewelry study at NGI began in the 1980’s and
evolved into the NWJC in 2013. Topics are suggested by
participants and each year a major jeweler is chronicled, a
360˚ slice of time revealed with some sessions linked through
a common thread—in 2016 that thread is ancient jewelry.
The conference kicks off with a reception and thoughtprovoking evening session.
The 2016 conference will be held at the renowned
Cedarbrook Lodge; sporting a Northwest woodsy feel on
eighteen acres of restored wetlands with farm-to-table
cuisine from an award-wining culinary crew.
