Dear Parents and Friends,
Have you got your ball tickets yet? This Saturday promises to be a
great community event with our three schools all supporting it. I must
thank Megan Usher and her team for the fantastic job they have done
in organising this special event. I hope to see you there!
A number of staff have been attending the Indigenous Cultural
Immersion Program which is funded by the Australian
Government’s National Partnership’s Program. I look forward to our
teachers bringing back some wonderful ideas on how to integrate
aspects of indigenous culture into our curriculum.
I hope that most of you have had a chance to book your time slots for
our up and coming parent teacher interviews. A reminder that
interviews will close on Tuesday 25 June at 9.00 am. Teachers will
print off their own timetables that morning in readiness for the
afternoon interviews.

I have received some positive feedback from parents regarding how quick and easy it is to make a
booking for school interviews. As mentioned before it works on a first come first served basis so
please book soon. If you miss out on a time I would suggest that you contact your child’s teacher to
arrange a mutually convenient time.
If you need assistance please do not hesitate to contact the front office for support. I have made an
Ipad available in the front office for your convenience if required.
A reminder that we are now officially in winter uniform mode. Shorts, summer dresses etc should
not be worn.
A special welcome to Deacon Luke who is assisting Father Tom. Luke is in the final stages of his
training as a priest. He is currently visiting all the classes and is proving to be a valuable resource.
Have a great week everyone.
Blessings,
David
That All May Be One
Dear Parents and Carers
Cold, wet winter days have a tendency to chill our spirit as well as our bodies. It’s a little harder to feel
‘joyful’ when we feel cold. In the movie Pollyanna the main character irritates many of the residents in her
town with her ‘glad’ outlook on life. Every obstacle can be turned into something positive.
Research into longevity showed that it was a person’s attitude that was the key element to living a long
life. Those being researched seemed to have discovered the secret of joyful living by being fully engaged
with their lives and being fully alive in one present moment followed by the next. Pema Chadron, a
Tibetan spiritualist, observed that, “Authentic joy is not a state of feeling or being high. Rather it is a state
of appreciation that allows us to participate fully in our own lives.”
Denmark seems to be the best country at living joyfully and the main reason is that most people strive to
do their very best in their day to day activities. They do their best because they care, they work hard
because that fulfils them and they don’t worry too much about the “negatives”.
“Worry is like sitting in a rocking chair; it will keep you busy but you won’t get anywhere.”
Author unknown.
The French naturalist, Jean Henri Fabre, was fascinated by
processional caterpillars that marched in a long unbroken line
front to back. So, he captured enough of them to encircle the rim
of a flower pot. He linked them nose to end and started them
walking in a closed circle around the rim of the pot. For days they
moved like a perpetual merry-go-round and, although food was
near at hand, the caterpillars starved to death on their endless
march to nowhere.
Unfortunately, life is like this for some people. They worry over unfounded fears which really never
happen. They wander through life without any meaningful and worthwhile purpose. Similar to the
caterpillars, they spend their life going in circles which, as they age, become decreasing circles; a tragic
way to live.
Joyful living is the result of being totally accepting of our present moment. Whenever we project ourselves
away from our present moment and seek happiness in another time or place, we leave joy behind. When
all parts of our life fully embrace where we are right now, we can’t help but be joyful. When Jesus spoke
to his Apostles and said: “These things I have spoken to you that my joy may remain in you and that your
joy may be full,” John 14:11 He was speaking through them to us.
Again, when Jesus said; “Until now you have asked nothing in my name; ask and you will receive that
your joy may be full.” John 16: 24 He is stating that He wants us to be full of joy. Jesus is inviting us to call
on His name to draw on the resources of God for anything we need to help us to live joyfully. Living
joyfully is a work in progress throughout our lives. So, “Get on with it; you can’t dwell on disappointments.”
“Lord, we pray for a personal encounter with your words, ‘Well done … enter into the joy of your Lord’.”
Matt. 25: 23.
Please keep in your thought and prayers the many people in our community who are in need of support
Wishing you joy and blessings

TEDDY BEAR PICNIC KINDERGARTEN
TUESDAY 28 JUNE 2013
On Tuesday 28 June 2013 Kindergarten students from St Mary's and St
Bernard's, along with their excited Teddy's and teachers, shared a special picnic
day on the bottom oval. The Teddy Bear's picnic has become an annual event
between the two schools, usually coinciding with Catholic Schools Week. The
picnic is a celebration of our community spirit and the pathways that extend
between our 3 local Catholic schools. The children enjoyed a range of activities
including bubble blowing, an obstacle course, magic painting, art activities and
more!
An enormous thank you to the Kindergarten parents who provided a bounty of
delicious picnic food and who assisted with group activities. A wonderful day
was had by all!
The Kindergarten Teachers - Mrs Valentini, Mrs Hardman and Mrs Hynes
ST BERNARD’S SCHOOL BUSH DANCE
Thank you to all those who supported the Bush Dance last Thursday night. A good time was had by all judging by

Congratulations to those people who won the raffle prizes: Lucy Vearing (KJ), Kylie Gill, Anne Scicluna and Jakob
