Teddy Bears` Picnic - Cardiff Metropolitan University
Teddy Bears’
Picnic
Learning about the ‘Bear’ necessities of life
in a programme devised by Bishops Wood Environmental Centre
Offered as a one day experience for
reception and year 1 pupils, the
programme is designed to:
• nurture respect for the natural world
through first hand contact;
• provide some understanding of how
living things obtain their needs of life
from the environment and what those
needs are;
• encourage young children to make a
positive contribution to caring for their
environment at a level appropriate to
their age.
“The Foundation Phase environment
should promote discovery and
independence and a greater emphasis on
using the outdoor environment as a
resource for children’s learning”
Framework for children’s learning for 3 to 7
year-olds in Wales (2008)
The notion of a teddy bears’ picnic is in itself an
exciting experience for young children. Once
you’ve booked your date the children will
receive a formal invitation for themselves and
their teddies to attend the picnic. Please note,
you will be the only school on the programme
during the day. This is not a communal picnic in
a park - there is a structured programme of
activities for the day.

Children will be greeted and taken to our Centre
which will be our base; however, we will spend
most of the day in the wooded area. They will
learn the secret of PAWS and at the end of the
day will receive certificates as qualified Teddy
Bear Guardians. The programme will be running
during the summer term.
Available Picnic dates are:
 Friday 27th June
 Thursday 3rd July
 Friday 4th July
 Monday 14th July
 Wednesday 16th July.
The cost of the day is £180 per class
(maximum of 32 per class).
Cancellations must be in writing and made more than
10 working days prior to the Teddy Bears’ Picnic or you
will be charged the full rate.
