PHP 300,000 - 350,000
In Zalameda’s Umbrellas in the Crowd, the
artist produces poetic abstraction in the elegant
composition of red, yellow and shades of blue
that form imprints of a huddle of umbrellas.
Zalameda’s signature use of the thin black line
allows him to both define shape and to indicate
directionality—the vertical strokes falling like
raindrops from the sky.

intricate as it moves from the upper background

isolated orientation, creating a graceful balance in

ALFONSO OSSORIO
Head (Veronica)
1950
Gouache, ink, wax and watercolor
on paper
27.6 x 21.6 cm (10 7/8 x 8 1/2 in)
PHP 650,000 - 750,000
Emerging from layers of wax, gouache, ink, and watercolor,
Alfonso Ossorio references the Veil of Veronica, pulling from the
most alluring theme of his oeuvre—his fascination with religion.
Most apparent in his primitivism of Christian iconography is his
influence of Art Brut, or outsider art, to which he was exposed in
the late 1940s through his close personal friend Jean Dubuffet.
Dubuffet coined the term ‘Art Brut’ to collectively categorize art
created outside the norms of existing artistic movements. This
disinterest in the conventions of form and subject thus resulted in
psychological themes and distorted figurations. Done in 1950 while
the New York-based Ossorio was creating a church mural at his
family’s war ravaged sugar plantation in Victorias, Negros Occidental,
Head (Veronica) is part of a series of paintings collectively called the
‘Victorias Paintings.’ Portraying the enigmatic cloth that bore the
face of Christ after he used it to wipe his face during the passion,
Ossorio’s reference to a particularly mystical story within the
Catholic tradition reveals an imprint of his own tensions surrounding
ideas of religion, spirituality and self.

PHP 150,000 - 165,000
An ode to the Dutch master, Rembrandt
Harmenszoon van Rijn, Aguinaldo’s
1990 artwork portrays the former’s
most iconic subject — the portrait.
Through a masterful balance of light
and shadow, Aguinaldo employs
chiaroscuro to convey the dramatic and
psychologically arresting persona of
his hero.

FERNANDO ZOBEL
El Ciclista de la Camisa Roja
1978
Oil on canvas
60 x 60 cm (23 ½ x 23 ½ in)
PHP 1,500,000-1,800,000
El Ciclista de la Camisa Roja, is dominated with soft hues of gold,
brown, and grey that merge the object and background. A small spot of
bright red, representing the cyclist, boldly stands out among the earth
tones and serves as a source of energy in an otherwise tranquil painting.
This strategic use of color to express a distinct meditative atmosphere
displays the influence of Western modern artists such as Mark Rothko on
Zobel’s work, while the bold and calculated strokes of black showcase
traces of Chinese calligraphy influences. This distinct merge of both
Western and Eastern characteristics makes this quintessential Zobel.

1964
Watercolor
52.5 x 74.5 cm (20 1/2 x 29 1/3 in)
PHP 1,200,000 - 1,400,000
In Mother and Child, Manansala highlights the soft, feminine curve
of the mother’s neck and shoulders. The mother is portrayed as
gazing down towards her child, displaying the protective instinct a
mother has for her baby. Only traces of the child are seen, such as
his tiny foot and a glimpse of his forehead. By drawing away from
merely representing a face for these subjects, Manansala explores
the more fundamental characteristics of this distinct relationship
such as tenderness, protectiveness, and nurture. The mother is no
longer presenting her baby to the viewer in a posed, static position.
Instead, the viewer becomes part of the scene, observing the subject
in a more true-to-life and candid perspective.

This early Ang Kiukok work represents a significant
phase in the progression and transformation of
Kiukok’s artistic style. Unmistakably different from
his abstract expressionist figures, this wet-on-wet
watercolor is a depiction of a mountain view, that
recalls his training in Chinese brush and ink art.

JOHN GOULD
A lot of four hand-colored lithographs of birds
52 x 34 cm (20 x 13 in) each
A rare set of four etchings taken from the Birds of Asia, this group believed to be from the last complete set
in private hands, and in fine condition. The exquisite hand coloring was done by Gould’s wife, Elizabeth, who
headed a team of renowned artists, among which, was her chief assistant, Edward Lear, of ‘Limericks’ fame.
Charles Darwin was a colleague of Gould, as they were both involved in the study of newly discovered species.
Gould’s artistry set a new standard for the era world-wide with his lifelike, accurate bird reproductions
contrasting with the often grotesque efforts produced by Victorian artists.
The reverse side of the framed pictures is also glazed and depicts the printed page corresponding to the
facing picture, giving details of the history of each bird.

ABRAHAM ORTELIUS
Asiae Nova Descriptio
Amsterdam, c.1580
37 x 48 cm (14 1/2 x 19 in)
A very scarce hand-colored copper engraving
with description of Asia in the back from the
first modern world atlas, called the Theatrum
Orbis Terrarum.
An important example of Abraham Ortelius’ map
of Asia, it prominently features a Philippines
without Luzon which had just been discovered
by Legaspi in 1575 and had not yet been
reflected in European maps until 20 years
later. Further east in western China, Cayamay
lacus is depicted. This mythical body of water
was presented by Ortelius as the source of
great Southeast Asian rivers. In the lower right
portion of the map, Australia appears as ‘Terrae
Incognitae Australis.’ East of China, two sailing
ships ply the waters of the Pacific.
Abraham Ortelius (1527 - 1598) was one of
the most important figures in the history
of cartography and the creator of the first

A rare hand-coloured copper engraving of a
map from the Atlas Mayor published by Jodocus
Hondius in Amsterdam. Depicting the historic
battle between the Dutch Admiral Oliver
van Noort and the Spanish Antonio Morga
in 1600 off Manila Bay near Fortune Island,
the map puts the Philippines at the center of
Southeast Asia. Spanish and Dutch war ships
face each other at the top right. With three
very decorative strapwork cartouches, this is
a superb relic of the Philippines in the early
1600s from the creator of modern cartographic
presentation: the Mercator projection.

White on cream leather
4-speed automatic transmission
PHP 2,700,000 - 3,000,000
In a time when Bentley and Rolls-Royce still shared equipment, this plush Bentley Eight was a successful
model that melded many of the most desirable traits and equipment from both brands. It was assembled
in Crew, United Kingdom and only 1,736 units were ever produced. The Bentley Eight was produced from
1984 through 1992 and served as Bentley’s entry-level model. It is powered by a 6.75-liter Rolls-Royce
V8 with 240 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque and has a four-speed 4L80-E automatic gearbox gracefully sent
the power to the rear wheels. It is also closely related to the Mulsanne model. It could do 0-100 km/h in a
locomotive silky smooth 10.2 seconds and hit 192 km/h (120 mph) if you really need to rush to your next
occasion in absolute silent luxury.
