DataStorm D2: Satellite Based Commissioning Manual v1
Satellite DataStorm D2 Based v1.0 Commissioning D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Introduction The new DataStorm D2 Universal Controller is the future of the DataStorm mobile internet system. The unique qualities of the D2 allow it to be connected to a network and given a network IP address. This stand-alone, self contained identity allows the DataStorm system to be used in multiple environments networked wired or wirelessly. The D2 is compatible with the Direcway series of modems DW4020 and DW6000. Future Direcway modems will also be compatible with the D2. On the DW4020 & DW6000 modem types, Direcway currently allows for new setups and satellite-switch commissionings to be done via the satellite link. The D2 also supports this new feature enabling true mobile anytime anywhere function and connectivity. This guide will walk through a commissioning via the D2 and the DataStorm system using a DW4020 or DW6000 modem. 1 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 1 - Hardware Setup In order to commission your system you must setup your D2, computer, and DW4020/DW6000 to ‘talk’ to each other in order to function correctly. This step will show you how to do this. WARNING Satellite Based Commissioning on certain DW4020 models is unavailable 4020 SBC UNAVAILABLE 4020 SBC AVAILABLE There are currently 6 Known DW4020 Model Types: Unavailable B/A, C/A, D/C, E/D: These models must be upgraded in order to support satellite based commissioning. This upgrade can only be done after a successful commission. As such, these models cannot be used for satellite based commissioning nor will they be supported by MotoSAT for satellite based commissioning. Available H/F, J/F: These are the only models that will support satellite based commissioning. These models have the correct configuration and correct firmware. Please visit www.motosat.com/downloads for more information and access to the configuration file needed to upgrade your DW4020 2 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 1 - Hardware Setup Continued Below is the hardware setup you need to have in place for satellite based commissioning. Note on the DW6000 you must have a switch in order to setup everything correctly. Click on the Start button and choose Control Panel. In the Control Panel choose Switch to Classic View if not done already. In the listing, choose Network Connections. When Network Connections appear, choose the connection that is connecting your computer to the switch. Right click this connection and choose Properties. 4 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 2 - Computer Setup Continued In the Properties panel highlight the Internet Protocol option and click the Properties button. Make sure the dot is in Use the Following IP Address. Place the address 192.168.0.10 in the IP Address slot. In the Subnet Mask slot put in 255.255.255.0. Leave the other boxes blank and click OK. This action might take a minute to finalize. Close all windows when complete. Your computer is now setup. Remember these steps to change this address; we will change it a few more times. 5 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 3 - D2 Setup The D2 must now be setup to find satellite via your modem. Open your Internet Browser and type in 192.168.0.250 and hit enter. This will open the main D2 page. Click the Configuration button to get to the D2’s configuration settings. Here you will help the D2 ‘talk’ to your modem type, configure its temporary parameters, and give it ability to find satellite. The order to configure the D2 is first the Dish Parameters, Hughes Parameters, Network Parameters, then the Main Configuration Page Parameters [DVB is not applicable]. 6 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 3 - D2 Setup Continued-Dish In the dish parameters there are only two settings to change. First change the Azimuth Search Window to 35. This broadens the search and compensates for some compass inconsistencies. Second, Enable the manual compass and change its heading to the current heading of the location of your DataStorm. Remember the DataStorm reads compass direction from its back end NOT the way the antenna is facing. Click Update Dish Settings when finished. 7 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 3 - D2 Setup Continued-Hughes The Hughes section is where you will tell the D2 to tell your modem what satellite to look for. Generally pick the satellite to commission on that will also be your future satellite you will be commissioned to. Use this Satellite Commissioning table to find the satellite and its corresponding values. Notice here in the Hughes Parameters you can only input some of the values. The others are found on the Main Configuration screen. Generally speaking you will only need to input the Frequency here [most of the time you can leave all the other values at default unless your satellite calls for a set of different parameters]. When you have input the value[s] click Update Hughes Values. 8 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 3 - D2 Setup Continued-Network The Network Parameters section is where you will change the IP address of the D2 to talk to your modem type. Here all that is needed for commissioning is to change the Local Address from 192.168.0.250, to 192.168.0.2. After making this change click the Update Network Settings Button. You also MUST turn off power to the D2 then turn it back on. This ensures that the IP address change is made. Also power cycle your modem and wait for it to power up before powering up the D2. Turn on the D2 and wait for the LAN Light to appear before connecting to it through your Internet Browser. With the D2 is powered back up, type 192.168.0.2 in your browser to open up the D2. When the Main D2 page is back up, click the Configuration again. We have one more set of values to input before we can find the satellite. 9 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 3 - D2 Setup Continued-Main This last configuration for commissioning is done on the Configurations Main page. Check the Satellite Commissioning Table for your satellite’s Longitude. All the commissioning satellites have a RX Polarization of vertical so make this change regardless. Last change the Satellite System to Direcway. This change places the D2 into a mode where it communicates with your Direcway modem. When these three changes are made click update settings. Perform a power cycle as done with the Network settings to ensure usability. 10 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 3 - D2 Setup Continued-Find Satellite The main D2 page should look similar to these screenshots. Be sure that next to the Signal Quality bar there is a number instead of a N/A reading. This indicates that your system is correctly configured to talk to your Direcway modem. Now click the Find Satellite button to go find the satellite. The dish on a new install will first raise up to 90° then stow down and then start to raise up and find satellite. When the satellite is found the DataStorm will peak and stop on it. After the System Status reads Search Operation Completed, turn off your D2 and close your browser. 11 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 4 - Computer Setup for Commissioning After finding the satellite, you had to turn off the D2 to prevent the D2’s IP address and your computer’s IP address from being the same. You are changing your computer’s IP address to ‘talk’ to your modem. The modem upon ‘talking’ to your computer will automatically assign it an IP address. This address is the same as the D2 at 192.168.0.2 thus we shut the D2 off to prevent a conflict. You need to refer to step 2 of this manual if you have forgotten how to get to where you can change your computer’s IP address. Once there make sure both the Obtain IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically are checked. Click OK. It might take a minute or so for the computer to make the changes so be patient. When this is done and close out all windows. 12 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 5 - Satellite Based Commissioning Satellite based commissioning can now finally be done. Follow the steps below to ensure you become commissioned. Open your internet browser [Note: Internet Explorer is preferred for commissioning] and type in 192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html -This will take you to your modem’s setup page. Click on the Setup link. A window will appear with 5 options. Choose the first, Registration-Installer. Enter your zip code at this screen. Leave the other box blank. Click Next when your are done. 13 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 5 - Satellite Based Commissioning Cont. After entering your zip code this next page gives GPS coordinates based on that information and asks you to confirm it by clicking Next. Now choose your Satellite and Frequency from the drop down menu here. Refer to your Satellite Commissioning Table if you do not remember the satellite & frequency you’ve chosen. Click Next when you have confirmed your satellite selection. Confirm that this satellite is your correct choice. Do not check the Enable OPI box. Click Next when you have confirmed this information. 14 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 5 - Satellite Based Commissioning Cont. After confirming your satellite, your modem will give you your values and ask if you want to perform an automatic cross-pol [connect to the satellite]. Check this box and click Next. You will then have the option of an ACP [Automatic or Manual cross-pol] test. Choose Automatic. A small alternative screen will appear with the progress. If the results are not a ‘Pass’ close the window and try again. Once you have received a ‘Pass’, click Close then Next on the main Auto Cross-Pol window. You will then have the chance to connect to the registration server. Leave it at ‘Consumer Registration’ and click Next on this screen changing nothing. 15 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 5 - Satellite Based Commissioning Cont. [Case Sensitive] After telling your modem you want to connect to the registration server, your modem will range, then download the appropriate keys and software. After it finishes click Next. A warning will appear that tells you about information over a secure connection; click OK. An agreement will then appear that the end-user needs to read and click the I Agree button at the bottom of the agreement. After clicking I agree, the next phase that appears is the Registration screen where you input your SAN and PIN number [obtained through your ISP/VAR-call your ISP/VAR if you DO NOT have this information]. Click continue when that information is entered. 16 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 5 - Satellite Based Commissioning Cont. When your SAN and PIN have been confirmed, your account will then be activated. Print or write down this information. This information is vital depending on the type of service you have purchased. Click Continue when you have copied this information. Your modem will then download the final keys and software and will restart to encode the settings. When the modem tells you it will restart, you have completed the Satellite Based Commissioning. 17 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 6 - Performing an NVCLEAR When Satellite Based Commissioning is done, you can start to setup the D2, your computer, and your modem with the final commissioned settings. The last step before setting up your components with a final configuration is performing an NVCLEAR on the D2. A NVCLEAR is very necessary because it gives you a fresh configuration to start with in regards to your commissioned state. The following instructions will show you how to do this. In order to access the D2’s setup screens you must first turn it on in a certain way. With the D2 OFF, hold both the buttons on the front then toggle the power ON in the back. If done correctly, all the lights will be lit on the front panel constantly. Once your computer is setup up, you can now NVCLEAR the D2. First click the ‘Start’ button and choose the ‘Run command’. In the Run command box, type out ‘telnet 192.168.0.250’ and click ‘OK’. A window will appear with the command line ‘D2Boot’. 18 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 6 - Performing an NVCLEAR Continued Once in this setup mode in the D2 you can now send the command to clear its memory and start from scratch. Simply type ‘NVCLEAR’ and hit enter. The prompt will appear directly below it indicating that the nonvolatile RAM has been cleared. At this point you can now turn OFF the D2. Wait 10-30 seconds, then turn it back on. The D2 is now reset. Its default IP address, 192.168.0.250, is now the D2’s address. Continue on to your specific system settings in order to set up your system correctly. 19 D2 The D2 & Satellite Based Commissioning Step 7 - D2, Your Computer & Modem Setup After performing an NVCLEAR you can now finalize you system’s setup by inputting your commissioned settings. These settings are outlined in the following pages based on your type of service and hardware. These settings and configurations are specific and these exact settings are the only setups supported by MotoSAT. 20 DW6000, D2, and Computer IP NAT DW6000, D2, and Computer IP Guide [NAT Enabled] Required Hardware: Hub/Switch with optional Wireless Access Point • DW6000 Settings [NAT Enabled] IP Configuration IP-192.168.0.1 SUBNET-255.255.255.0 • D2 Settings IP Configuration Leave all the network settings as default • Your Computer’s Settings Obtain IP Address Automatically Obtain DNS Server Automatically A5 DW6000, D2, and Computer IP 5 Static IP WITH Router DW6000, D2, and Computer IP Guide [5 Static IP] WITH Router • DW6000 Settings IP Configuration IP-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [See your SAN confirmation sheet for actual IP’s] SUBNET-255.255.255.248 • D2 Settings IP Configuration IP-66.88.44.34 SUBNET-255.255.255.0 MODEM GATEWAY-66.88.44.32 ROUTER GATEWAY- Leave as is DNS-Leave as is • Your Computer’s Settings 1st IP Configuration [a direct link via the switch] IP-i.e. 66.88.44.35 SUBNET-255.255.255.248 GATEWAY-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [the IP of the DW6000] DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 OR [Either or is used, not BOTH for the same computer] 2nd IP Configuration [a wired or wireless link via the router] -Obtain IP Address Automatically -Obtain DNS Automatically • Router Settings WAN Configuration IP-66.88.44.33 SUBNET-255.255.255.248 GATEWAY-66.88.44.32 LAN Configuration DHCP [Usually will be under the 192.168.1.1 domain] • The 2 Static IP address you have remaining can be used on other network devices as you see fit PLEASE REFER TO YOUR INSTALLER OR SAN CONFIRMATION SHEET FOR ACTUAL IP SETTINGS ON YOUR MODEM DEVICE A5 DW6000, D2, and Computer IP 5 Static IP NO Router DW6000, D2, and Computer IP Guide [5 Static IP] NO Router • DW6000 Settings IP Configuration IP-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [See your SAN confirmation sheet for actual IP’s] SUBNET-255.255.255.248 • D2 Settings IP Configuration IP-66.88.44.34 SUBNET-255.255.255.0 MODEM GATEWAY-66.88.44.32 ROUTER GATEWAY- Leave as is DNS-Leave as is • All Your Computers Settings-Each Computer may be set to Obtain Automatically instead of inputting numbers statically as shown below st 1 Computer’s IP Configuration IP-i.e. 66.88.44.33 SUBNET-255.255.255.248 GATEWAY-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [the IP of the DW6000] DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 2nd Computer’s IP Configuration IP-i.e. 66.88.44.35 SUBNET-255.255.255.248 GATEWAY-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [the IP of the DW6000] DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 rd 3 Computer’s IP Configuration IP-i.e. 66.88.44.36 SUBNET-255.255.255.248 GATEWAY-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [the IP of the DW6000] DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 th 4 Computer’s IP Configuration IP-i.e. 66.88.44.37 SUBNET-255.255.255.248 GATEWAY-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [the IP of the DW6000] DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 PLEASE REFER TO YOUR INSTALLER OR SAN CONFIRMATION SHEET FOR ACTUAL IP SETTINGS ON YOUR MODEM DEVICE A5 DW6000, D2, and Computer IP 1 Static IP WITH Router DW6000, D2, and Computer IP Guide [1 Static IP] WITH Router • DW6000 Settings [1 Static IP] WAN IP-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [See your SAN confirmation sheet for actual IP’s] SUBNET-255.255.255.252 LAN IP-192.168.0.1 SUBNET-255.255.255.252 • D2 Settings IP Configuration IP-192.168.1.250 Subnet-255.255.255.0 Modem Gateway-192.168.0.1 Router Gateway-192.168.1.1 DNS-Leave as is • Your Computer(s) Settings IP Configuration IP-192.168.1.[2-250 you can choose] SUBNET-255.255.255.0 GATEWAY-192.168.1.1 DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 • Router Settings WAN/Internet Configuration IP-66.88.44.33 [One IP Address above the 4020’s address] SUBNET-255.255.255.252 GATEWAY-66.88.44.32 [The 4020’s IP Address] DNS-1-66.82.4.8 2-66.82.4.12 LAN Configuration IP-DHCP [Default is usually 192.168.1.1] SUBNET-DHCP [Default is usually 255.255.255.0] PLEASE REFER TO YOUR INSTALLER OR SAN CONFIRMATION SHEET FOR ACTUAL IP SETTINGS ON YOUR MODEM DEVICE A5 DW6000, D2, and Computer IP 1 Static IP NO Router DW6000, D2, and Computer IP Guide [1 Static IP] NO Router • DW6000 Settings [1 Static IP] WAN IP-i.e. 66.88.44.32 [See your SAN confirmation sheet for actual IP’s] SUBNET-255.255.255.252 LAN IP-192.168.0.1 SUBNET-255.255.255.252 • D2 Settings IP Configuration IP-192.168.0.2 Subnet-Leave as is Modem Gateway- Leave as is *Router Gateway-Leave as is DNS-Leave as is *DataStorm Beta v.3.5.4 or higher • Your Computer’s Settings 1st IP Configuration [for Internet access and DW4020 access] IP-i.e. 66.88.44.33 [One IP Above the DW4020 Address;
