Scott Roland, our bar manager, has just announced a new TAM class for Saturday, June 20th. To comply with liquor laws, we are required to have a TAM certified person on premises anytime the bar is open. Periodically, we host a TAM class so
members can gain their certification. We have quite a few present TAM’s expiring, and
could always use some more. SMSA picks up the tab for this class. If you have a few
spare hours on the 20th, please contact Scott at barmanager@smsa.com to sign up! All
we require in return is that each club member who goes through the training make themselves available as the bartender or TAM at least four times per year.
The “meaty” part of the sailing season is here! On June 6th, the ladies will have a race
training day in advance of the Women’s Regatta the next day. If you would like to participate in either of these, contact Terry Farman (svmorningstar@gmail.com), Steph Caldwell
(stephcaldwell42@gmail.com), or Mark Gyorgy (keelboatrace@smsa.com).
Also on June 6th, we head to Zahniser’s for the annual SMSA Luau! Zahniser’s provides
the meats; you bring sides, salads and desserts; Z’s provides live music. This will get
started around 4pm Saturday next to the pool bar, and will continue until 7:30pm.
Thanks to Skip, Ellen, Sharkey, Terry and everyone at Zahniser’s for hosting this fabulous, fun event.
Be sure to check out the cruising schedule! There’s a 10-day Philadelphia/North Cruise, a
weekend cruise over the Solstice Weekend, and the start of an Around Delmarva Cruise.

We’ve also got the One Day Regatta for small boats, Smith Point and the Summer Invitational for keel boats on the race schedule. Full details are at SMSA.com.
We have quite a few new members at SMSA. When you see an unfamiliar face or someone wandering around looking lost, please introduce yourself and make the newcomers
feel welcome. SMSA is growing and getting better, and this will help keep it that way!
I am going to work with the Rear Commodore and others interested in our club leased/
owned fleet in having an organized “checkout” event for all interested in using the 420s,
Optis, Sunfish, and Holders. Keep watching our email or SMSA.com for info. A lot of
folks – particularly new members – are looking forward to using these boats as the summer progresses, and we want all to be familiar with rigging, launching and retrieving.

SMSA Boat Check Out
SMSA has several boats available to members for check out. This is one
of the great perks of SMSA membership. Whether you have your own
boat or not this is a great opportunity to do something a little different.
Available for check-out are Optis (12) , Sunfish (5), 420s (6) and 20’
keelboats (2) .
All you need to do is first demonstrate competency on any boat you
would like to use. Once you’re signed off — sign out & go sailing.
There’s a sign out book in the Junior room at the back of the clubhouse,
and the guidelines are posted near the book.
ON JUNE 8th: Holder 20 checkouts from 6pm - 8pm; Checkouts start on
the half-hour. Contact RearCommodore@smsa.com for details.
