MR Series Mortise Lock Handing Change RH (right hand) to LH (left hand) 2 Remove the Armor Plate ● ● Remove the two #8 machine screws from the armor plate. Set aside the screws and armor plate. 3 Reverse the Latchbolt ● ● ● ● Remove the latchbolt screw. Pull the latchbolt assembly from the mortise lock body. Reverse the latchbolt assembly. For LH the bevel should face the latchbolt screw. ● Reinstall the latchbolt assembly. ● Reinstall the latchbolt screw. 4 Reverse the Stopworks ● ● ● ● ● Remove the stopworks screw. Pull the stopworks from the front of the mortise lock body. Reverse the stopworks. The arrow on the stopworks indicates the secure side of the case. For LH, the arrow faces the stopworks screw. ● Reinstall the stopworks. ● Reinstall the stopworks screw. 5 Security for the Outside ● ● ● ● Remove the egress screw -E-. Install the egress screw as a security screw -S-. Egress and Security screws are the same component just in different locations. Extend and retract the deadbolt. S E 6 The Most Common Handing Error ● ● ● ● A misplaced screw. The security screw must drive the egress lever. EGRESS LEVER The security screw becomes a part of the deadbolt, making it a security screw. The egress lever is yellow to contrast with the silver and gray components. SECURITY SCREW 7 The Most Common Handing Error ● ● ● EGRESS LEVER When you project the deadbolt, the security screw drives the egress lever. As the egress lever is driven forward it drives the locking lever. When the deadbolt is fully extended the locking lever blocks the retractor. LOCKING LEVER RETRACTOR 8 I Cannot Move the Deadbolt... HELP!! ● ● ● ● If your customer cannot extend the deadbolt have them remove the security screw. SECURITY SCREW Next they should extend and retract the deadbolt. Then they can reinstall the security screw. When the deadbolt cannot be extended the egress lever is caught behind the security screw. EGRESS LEVER 9 Free Exit for the Inside ● Remove the security screw -S-. ● Install it as an egress screw -E-. ● Depress the latchbolt assembly. E S 10 Congratulations!! ● ● Nice job everyone. You started with a RH (right hand) MR 162 and you now have a LH (left hand) MR 162. Function specific handing instructions are available in PDF format on our website. 11 MR162 PFEF Installation ● ● Following the installation instructions your group will install the MR 162 with 26D PHL F-trim. Your lock and trim were shipped as RH. The lock is now LH and the trim is handed. Pay Special attention to Step #3 in the instructions.
