The Malaysian staff and students were a delight and very keen to show off their schools and their programs. They were so proud and excited to host us but also keen to learn about our system. The program has great potential. Each of the participants were so committed to building a positive relationship with their sister schools that the program cannot help but be successful.” Brett Windsor, Principal Leongatha SC Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 6 Some comments from participating schools “I definitely feel very passionate about the benefits of sister schools and exchanges – many students these days care only about themselves and are so blinkered in their outlook on life that any program that can counteract those thoughts in any way at all to improve their global perspective on life can only be of benefit in the long term!” Viviane Keogh, teacher, Rosebud Secondary College “Cobden Technical School students are not exposed to a multi-racial or multi-religious lifestyle. The Sister school program exposed CTS students to Islamic rules, etiquettes and lifestyle… “ Halim from Sekolah Teknik Alor Setar Cheras – sister school to Cobden Technical School Sample areas for collaboration • • • • • Student and teacher exchanges Development of joint curriculum units Clubs and cultural immersion programs Transition programs involving feeder schools Networks and friendships developed through email, Facebook, Skype, wikis etc • Exchange of pedagogy • Exchange of information about school systems • Some support for English and Indonesian language programs Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 7 Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 8 Broader engagement • Visits by delegations from Malaysia to Victoria and to Victoria’s recent Shanghai World Expo exhibit • Assistance to establishment of special needs school • Teacher training practicums • Increased number of Malaysian international students in Victoria • Participation in conferences in each country by the other “Malaysia was hosting the 2nd ASEAN Students games during my visit.
