Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 6 Continue from …….. • DIAC reversed India to AL 4 on 1Sep 2008. • This gave a further jerk to Quality Institutions and Agents and helped in turning the market completely in favour of low fee shoddy colleges. • Universities and all quality institutions (Government and Private) suffered as there was no growth in their areas • The quality agents in India suffered as they could not cope up with the shoddy agents who were getting fake documents made for the students for visas to shoddy colleges Further deterioration • The large number of non-serious students who have been pushed to Australia to work and seek migration became easy targets, which was exploited by the Indian media • Spread a lot of negativity about Australia. • Australia’s competitors and Indian Local Institutions also exploited the situation and made Australia a least preferred choice from a most preferred destination in the Year 2010 Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 7 Is it all over for Australia in the India • No • Australia is still a preferred destination for Indian students but there are hard truths on which Australia need to work collectively: – To attract the quality students Australia need amend and made visa policy which is quality friendly. – Students successful completion of education has to be given top priority by one and all – entry standard may be raised – To rebuild its image need comprehensive awareness campaigns through out India in collaboration with the institutions. Continued…….. • Support the agents net work (AAERI) who have been standing behind Australia through out its difficult time and did their best to defend Australia at every stage. • More recognition and support to AAERI as it is Australia’s asset and only organization which can implement ESOS in India. • Australia remains the most preferred country for most of the elite and qualified agents in Indian Market. Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 8 The Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of entry and operations) Bill, 2010. • Introduced in Lok Sabha on May 3 2010. • The bill seeks to regulate the entry and operation of foreign educational institutions seeking to impart higher education in India. • Would this bill have any impact on the flow of India students to Australia or Other Countries. • No It will not have any impact rather it would boost the students to go to foreign countries • The Indian Government have no plan or intention to curtail the flow of Indian Students to Foreign Countries. 17 Indian Private Institutions do the marketing on the basis of their foreign university collaborations: Indian School of Business is a very famous Business school and it also markets on the basis of its collaboration with London Business School, Wharton Business School and Kellogg business school. 18 Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 9 Lovely Professional University markets it’s different tie-ups with different foreign universities 19 The Indian Institute of Planning and Management advertises about it’s international study tour programs as they know the value of foreign education experience for Indian students. 20 Australian International Education Conference 2010 www.aiec.idp.com 10 Doubts about these institutions… • Many of these institutions have been set up to tap the flow of Indian students to foreign countries • The questions have started coming up on their professionalism and standards of education being imparted by them • They would only be able to hold low category and economically poor students.
