54th Wisconsin Rapids Model A Reunion
July 29, 30, 31, 2016
Wisconsin chapter will be in charge of car games this year. We need A volunteer to chair this
event.
Wisconsin Rapids club grounds will open for campers from Wednesday, July 27th to Monday, August 1, 2016. Motel campers may want to make their reservations soon.
Registration fees remain the same as last year.
Please bring your club name badge and pin your reunion ribbon on it. This also will help you remember names of other people when they wear their own badge.
Each of the 4 clubs will again be responsible for $50 men raffle; $50 woman raffle; and $25 youth
raffle.
As in the past Wisconsin Chapter will be responsible for 1 basket for the silent auction. However,
more baskets are welcome.
Plans are to really have the $1/ear corn roast Friday evening starting about 5:00 p.m. This will be
in plenty of time for the auction. Remember to bring your "working" auction items on Friday.
A shoebox swap starting at 8:00 a.m. is planned for Saturday. Bring your shoebox size Model A
related items you would like to swap or sell.

MAFCA Wisconsin Chapter General Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2015
Board Members Present: Mike Quam, Steve Lewis,
Randy Kind, Dave Huenink, Neil Besougloff, Karry

Mike Quam called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
President –Mike – Mike thanked everyone for coming.
The club received the reciprocating newsletters. The
club received a thank you from the Model A Youth Organization for the $200.00 donation. The club also received a thank you from MAFFI for a monetary donation. Nominees are needed for the board of directors
and nominations will close at the December meeting.
Vice President – Randy – The club received three
new membership applications; Frank Oliver, Dale
Kirner and Stacey Hilbert.
Secretary – Dave – A motion was made by Roger Olsen and seconded by Bob Schmiechen to accept the
March 8th meeting minutes as written. The motion was
put to a vote and it carried. 17 members renewed their
2016 membership.
Treasurer – Steve – A report of the revenue and expenses from last month was given. A motion was
made by Carl Doro and seconded by Deb Lewis to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion was put to a
vote and it carried. A bill turned in. Roger Olsen made
a motion and seconded by Pete Stauber to pay the
bills. The motion was put to a vote and it carried.
Outdoor – Neil – There is one remaining outdoor
event – The Waukesha Christmas parade. The outdoor events had a great turn out this year. The signup
sheet for next years outdoor events was passed
around to the membership.
Indoor – Karry – A host is needed for the February indoor event. Dave and Donna Boucher and Mike and
Sandy Yokofich are hosting the Christmas party in December. The membership was encouraged to bring
their children and grandchildren. Dave Boucher mentioned the skate board park the club made a donation
to a few years ago is now completed. There is a
plaque with the clubs name on it. The plans for the
banquet are all set. 12 people have signed up.

68 vendors have signed up for 144 spots. 79 spots
remain unsold. Mailers have been sent out to promote the event. Bob Schaefer asked for volunteers
to help setup and run the swap meet.
Roger Olsen talked about the Rapids Reunion and
gave the membership details of the event. There
are going to be a few changes to the event this
year. Roger also reminded the membership of the
technical seminar at Model A Mail Truck November
19th.
Carl Doro suggested printing an update to the roster
midyear so those who paid their due late and new
members would be included. The board will take it
under advisement.
Roger Olsen made a motion to adjourn the meeting
and it was seconded by Dave Boucher. The motion
was put to a vote and it carried. The meeting was
adjourned at 2:03 p.m.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. All indoor events now have hosts
for the season. Karen Sukkert stepped
forward to do Polish poker for the February indoor meet. Thank you Karen. Check the
advanced timing for all upcoming events, many
great ones ahead. Bob Schaefer is in need of volunteers to sign up to help at the swap meet in February. Your help is important to running this event
smoothly. Deer hunting and snow is here can only
mean one thing is next… Christmas. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Jan 28 – Awards banquet, chairpersons Dick Lardinois, Dawn Gillen, Dan Kane, and Sue Buelow. The
banquet will be held at Christy’s Ballroom, 117th and Bluemound. Complimentary beer and soda, sit
down dinner followed by awards program and door prizes throughout the evening. Cost is $19.95. Music and dancing provided by the “Beat Goes On”.
Sunshine Report – Ray Schlueter was hospitalized recently, is out and doing fine.
Comments from the Prez (1994, David Dohmeyer): February 18th and 19th are the dates for our Swap Meets.
I say “Meets” because the 18th will be a “Two Wheel Swap Meet” for motorcycles and bicycles. The 19th will
be the 30th Annual Model ‘A’ Club Swap Meet. Come on out and volunteer for either one or both of these
days.

Carl/Jan Peil
The Nominations Committee has been formed (Dave Boucher, Eddie Schultz, Tom Burgermeister) and is
looking for members willing to serve on the Board of Directors. Without volunteers this club would cease to
exist. Nominations to take place at the Christmas Party and elections to be held in January.
The ladies pages, by Burdella Miller, included instructions on how to make a country Christmas tree and a
foam button wreath. (if you are interested, email me and I’ll gladly send them to you.)
Looking for an effective fan belt? NAPA Auto Parts Store has belt number 25-10800 as a perfect fit. (note: this
is per the 1994 newsletter)
From ‘Loose Lug Nuts’(J.R.Manning) – remember Oleomargarine? In France in the mid 1880’s butter was
scarce and a substitute was invented by Hippolyte Mege-Mouriez. He combined oleo (beef fat) with margarlic
acid – voila! Oleomargarine! Of course this was a threat to the American Dairy industry so the Margarine Act
of 1886 imposed a $0.02 per pound tax and by the turn of the century 32 states had banned the sale of colored oleomargarine. Some states required it to be colored pink! Wisconsin passed its law in 1895 and it was
not lifted until 1967. Not only was it illegal to sell colored oleomargarine in Wisconsin, it was illegal to eat it
without a permit! Remember oleo smuggling runs to Illinois and Michigan? (my parents used to bring back
cases of it from Illinois. It was white with an envelope of yellow coloring you mixed in at home). Today’s margarine has less fat and more water. Think of Ol’ Loose Lug Nuts when you’re baking Christmas cookies this
year. Either use high fat margarine or good old butter. If you eat butter, you’re gonna die. If you eat margarine, you’re gonna die anyway, so why not enjoy good cookies while you can?

Techincal Info– Tires

If you are considering purchasing a new set of tires for your Model A in the near future, talk with Tony at Mail Truck Model A. Tony is planning to place an order for new tires in January, 2016. If he
gets enough orders, he can have the tires shipped by pallet load. This obviously would lower shipping costs for a larger order. However, it is not known at this time if there would be a lower price for
tires/inner tubes for a bigger order.
Volume 10, Issue Three Summer, 2014, Model A Times, on pages 5, and 6 had an article on Coker
Tires. This article discusses a radial tire that was the same basic size as the original designed for
19" tires the Model A came out with. They are also available in 21".
For over 50 years we have used various brands, Goodyear, Firestone, Montgomery Wards, Sears,
and others. While they all looked good and worked well, they were all limited in the amount of tire
wear provided. Routinely you could expect about 20,000 miles of wear before replacement was
needed.
For many Model A owners this isn't a problem because they won't be putting all that many miles on
their car. Since we enjoy the long drives in a Model A having something that approached the wear
warranty of a modern tire, along with the performance and handling benefits of a modern tire the installation of these was a no-brainer. These tires have a wear warranty of 50,00 miles.
On a Model a original 19" or 21" wheel you will still need tubes. Radial tubes are of a different design so order the correct tubes when you order the tires. Currently the Excelsior tires are only in
black wall.
Many Model A owners who enjoy the longer drives have switched to the more modern sized wheels
which allow the use of 16" radial tires. While it works well, we have always enjoyed the original appearance with the 19" or 21" wheels on a Model A.

14 Model A’s and a dune buggy turn out for Veterans Day parade
Members of the Wisconsin Chapter honored our military veterans on Saturday, Nov. 7 by taking part in the
52nd annual Milwaukee Veterans Day parade. Fourteen Model A’s and one VW dune buggy (thanks, Gary
S.!) turned out for the parade on a cold, breezy, but dry morning.
Our group assembled as we have in the past at Miss Katie’s Diner near Marquette University for breakfast
and conversation before heading to the staging area at Fourth and State streets for the 11 a.m. parade.
Club members participating were Dave and Donna Boucher; Bob and Barb Sonnen and son-in-law Ed Krug;
Roger and Jan Olsen; Wally Kaufman; Bob and Karen Schmiechen; Ed and Lorraine Schultz; Steve and Eleanor Gapko; Carl Doro and grandson Dominic; Steve, Teresa, and Andrew Cloyd; Gene Taurman; Gary
Schwabe; Ken and Cheryl Baewer; Stan Larson; Mike and Kathy Mooney; and Neil Besougloff.
As in past years, we gave rides to dignitaries from the Wisconsin AMVETS organization, who expressed
their appreciation for our role in the annual parade. – Neil Besougloff

November Indoor Meeting
Members enjoyed a late lunch of pizza and conversation after the November meeting. Bob & Karen
Schmiechen brought a tote of old club photo albums. Albums were passed around for everyone’s
enjoyment. Many took photos of their loved ones from days passed. Was a nice afternoon, enjoyed
by all.

It is the intent of the Wisconsin Chapter to serve as a medium of exchange of ideas, information, and materials for admirers of the
Model A Ford and Model A era fashions; to help those admirers become better acquainted; and to maintain among its members
the spirit of good fellowship and sociality through sponsored activities including the use of the Model A and family participation.
