Un Mensaje del Presidente de Su Consejo Asesorador Principal, Dorothy Durlach
May March’s winds blow in sweet warm Spring weather. Spring starts this month (not soon enough)!
Purim, the celebration of freedom from oppression, arrives at the beginning of the month.
Get ready for the St. Patrick’s Day parades - make a green hat any Monday 2:30 at Millinery with Ellen
Christine to celebrate. The month ends with Palm Sunday. Dance away the winter’s snow & cold and
get ready for the Bunny to hop.
Don’t forget Daylight Saving Time on March 8 and set your clocks to Spring Forward one hour.
Enjoy Manhattanhedge at the Spring Equinox on March 20, when day & night are equal in length and
the sunset aligns with the East/West streets of midtown.
Visit our garden and enjoy! Join a class and exercise away winter pounds.

Participant Spotlight: Candida Caro
We are happy to introduce one of Hudson Guild’s kindest and friendliest people,
Candida Caro, a long-time member of Hudson Guild and a New Yorker. Candida
was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States when she
was in the 7th grade. She still has wonderful memories of her family, family events
and friends.
When Candida arrived in the U.S., she faced many challenges. She needed to work 8
hours per week, attend school and take care of her family. Candida worked very hard
at a sewing machine for almost 30 years at a factory called Idan Fashion.
Candida likes working and interacting with people. She enjoys making new friends and visiting people in the hospital. In
fact, it is natural for her and she is very passionate about it. In the Guild, she enjoys English and computer classes. Being a
local resident of Chelsea, she discovered Hudson Guild in 1976. At the age of 55, Candida joined Hudson Guild’s
Neighborhood Center located at Fulton and her talent for helping and caring was quickly noticed. As a result, Candida
became part of the visiting committee; she serves as chairperson of this committee to this day.
