I hope you are all doing well. It has been some time since our last Reunion so start getting ready
for a great time in Branson, Missouri. Did you all have a excellent Thanksgiving with family and
friends? Did you all eat too much turkey? Now it is time to get ready for Santa coming to your
house to deliver presents or maybe coal, I do not know which as that is up to you. I wish everyone
a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
God Bless to you and your families.

Administrative Director Report
Things have been fairly quiet for this last quarter having some ship’s store sales and new or renewal
membership deposits from time to time. Soon, 2014 membership renewals will be going out. Reunion planning is already started and we plan to have the registration forms available on the website in
January. I am already looking forward to our Branson, MO reunion in June.
The ship's store operations continue to be successful under Terry Winter’s direction, the website
maintenance continues to be kept current by Chuck White, and the Database is kept up to date by
Jim Sievers.
As of November 22, 2013, the checking account balance is $3,710, and the savings account balance is $10,520..
Your Administrative Director, Dave Bilby
Ship’s Store
Terry Winters, Operator
.Greetings
Fellow Kingsmen.
Another year has passed us by and it is almost Christmas Time again. It’s been 40 years since I
last stepped foot on King and sometimes it feels like yesterday.
It has been a very good year for the Ships Store and I hope that we can continue with our sales into
the New Year. We have added the White Shirts for DLG-10 and we have a good selection of merchandise for both DLG-10 and DDG-41. We have our Hats, (Including Plank owner) for both DLG10 and DDG-41). We have the Polo Shirts for both ships (Also including Plank owner). We also
have Challenge Coins, Neck Lanyards and Ships Patches. You can see and ordered Items at the
following link. ( http://www.uss-king.com/store.shtml ).
Remember that the proceeds go toward our reunions and other worth while activities that support
KING Values. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me by E-Mail
at terrywinters1946@yahoo.com or by phone at 360-649-4942.
If you would like these items for Christmas Presents please let me know and I will do everything I can to get them to you in time.

“One Less Bell to Answer” by Chuck White
"Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way" or was it "For whom the bell tolls" or "One less bell to
answer". Who knows how many ways you can swing a bell and how important a bell is. Even
Johnny Carson and Jack Webb know how to spin a yarn about copper clappers. Seriously though
recently we had an offer from a football coach in Iowa to deliver a ships bell to the reunion in
Branson. He claimed that the bell was embossed
with U.S.S. KING on it. You can imagine what
excitement that brought about with the Board of
Directors. As his story went, someone had bid on
the bell on eBay and won it bid for $1,500. The
boosters club funded the bell. Since then he
became aware that the bell couldn't be owned but
rented from the Navy Historical and Heritage
Command and he signed a document stating that
he would care for it for a period of five years. Two
years ago he moved on to another coaching job
and needed to unload the bell and found our
website. He had contacted Terry Winters and
myself and I emailed him back opening up the
dialog. He said the bell had been stripped down
and polished and mounted to a frame (two
anchors). It was used as a scoring mechanism for
football games. I had asked him if there were any
other markings on the bell besides U.S.S. KING and had asked if he could send a photo. The photo
was a heart sinker, he wrote that it was also inscribed with 1920, which didn't set well with the
Board. 1920 made it to be DD-242, a Clemson class four stack destroyer which served from 1920
through WWII and scrapped in 1946. We were hoping for 1960 which means, ours is still missing.
I wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.
God Bless America
