Library Events Talk, Sing, Read, Write, Play, PARENT WORKSHOP In the Children’s Library this Spring! Sing Your Way to Reading Success Tuesday, April 16, 6:30-8 pm Children, ages 3 and up, and their caregivers are invited to join us for an evening of stories, music and play. This unique parent workshop is designed to give parents/caregivers ideas on how to inspire young children to become successful readers through music and song. We will begin with a story time, and then parents will meet while children play. Registration is limited, sign up is required. Please contact lmcfalls@akronlibrary. org or call Sandy DeLuca from The Children’s Services Board at 330.379.1994 for registration information. You can also register online at www.summitkids.org. Foster parent training credits available through Summit County Children Services. This workshop is part of the 26th Annual Child and Family Awareness Month. Preschool Sign & Read Story Time STORY TIMES Preschool Story Time Connecting you Socially For 2 to 5 year olds with an adult caregiver. No need to sign up, just join us any Thursday, 10:30 am. Sunday Story Time Sampler No need to sign up, just join us any Sunday we’re open, 2 pm. Closed March 31 for Easter. CL-5563/700/2-2013/pp Wednesdays, April 10-May 1, 10:30 am For 2 to 5 year olds with an adult caregiver. Sign language is a great way for young children to express themselves, and it’s fun to learn! Join Signing Time instructor, Kim Bell, and Hopkins the frog as they share stories and teach you sign language. Weekly themes include animals, friends, sharing, and weather. Saturday Story Time Sampler No need to sign up, just join us any Saturday, 11 am. Special Saturday Story Times: FAMILY PROGRAMS Paws for Reading A Time to Play Every Second Saturday: March 9, April 13, May 11, 11 am In place of Saturday Story Time Sampler. Share a book with a certified therapy dog. Weather Story Time Saturday, March 16, 11 am Featuring Ezra Jack Keats’ Snowy Day, this special story time is in conjunction with the Main Library Science and Technology Division’s A Day of Astronomy and Weather and the Akron Art Museum’s The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats exhibition. Ezra Jack Keats Story Time Saturday, March 23, 11 am We will read Peter’s Chair and other books about families and siblings. Join us for songs, rhymes, crafts, and more! For Me, For You, For Later… Money Fun for the Whole Family Saturday, May 4, 11 am Families are coming together to learn about saving, spending, and giving. Join us for stories, activities, giveaways, refreshments and a special surprise guest! Materials provided through a grant from the PNC “Grow Up Great” Program. Every Second Tuesday: March 12, April 9, May 14, 10:30-11:30 am Families with young children (ages 2-5) can drop in to play together and meet new friends. We will have toys, art materials, math/science and music activities for you to explore together. No need to sign up. ZOBAPAGO Saturday, April 20, 2 pm In the Auditorium Keep Growing, Keep Going, ZOBAPAGO! ZOBAPAGO (zo-bop-a-go) is a kids’ band adults will dig, too. Take a ride with TaxiMan Zan with his saxophone, guitar and percussion toys, and meet the mechanic/musician garage band, the New-Matic-Crew. The Crew made up of ZippityLicks, Zag, Zig, ZeeRock and lead singer, Zeta Pipes, will astound you with keyboard and guitar riffs and their great driving groove. Located in Akron, the band provides fun, interactive, educational songs relating to topics of a child’s everyday life. SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS Artists’ Studio Workshop Wednesdays, March 5-April 30, 4-5 pm Join us as we explore a variety of fun artistic techniques! For grades K-6. Spring Break Boredom Busters for grades K-6: STEM Day Tuesday, April 2, 3-5 pm Join us for wacky science experiments, building fun, and math mysteries. The Children’s Library volcano will erupt at 4 pm! Artists’ Studio & Craft Day Wednesday, April 3, 3-5 pm Have fun exploring artistic techniques and crafts. Wii Dance Day Thursday, April 4, 3-5 pm Show off your dance moves at our dance party! EDUCATOR WORKSHOP Resources for Early Childhood Educators Work Night in the RECE Lab “For Me, For You, For Later: First Steps to Spending, Sharing, and Saving” Monday, March 18, 6-8:30 pm Join us for an evening of training and work time. All participants will receive a wonderful Kits for Kids bag, which includes six beautiful, hardback picture books, promoting social studies topics such as: sharing and giving to others to introduce the foundations of teaching financial education topics to young children. The kit also contains an educational DVD, a story prop, and many resource and activity ideas to take back to your classroom! 2.5 hours of ODJFS In-Service and CDA credits available.
