Your Miami County Educational Service Center Miami County Educational Service Center Established in 1914 as a county office and fully developed into an educational service center in 1995, the Miami County Educational Service Center (MCESC) has offered decades of services to school districts. Located in Troy, Ohio, MCESC is one of the largest educational service centers in Ohio and currently serves all public and non-public schools in the county. This includes 2 city schools (Troy and Piqua), 4 exempted village schools (Tipp City, Covington, Bradford and Milton-Union), 3 local schools (Miami East, Bethel and Newton), and 2 non-public schools (Troy St. Patrick and Piqua Catholic). The ESC also works cooperatively with Miami County Children’s Services, Miami Valley SERRC and Upper Valley JVS. By establishing a county educational consortium, MCESC is able to provide Miami County with classrooms for the severe emotionally disturbed, multiple disabilities, preschool and classrooms for developmentally handicapped and learning disabled students. Serve children ages 3-5 with cognition, communication, motor and social emotional delays Serve typical preschool students Classes meet 2.5 hours daily, 4 days per week Talented and Gifted Program: (TAG) Coordination of gifted services Gifted assessment/identification ODE compliance/reporting Consultation with parents/school personnel Curriculum development/support Psychological Services: Facilitate intervention assistance teams in devising strategies to help students be more successful Consult with parents and teachers regarding issues that affect student performance Provide psycho-educational evaluations Assess student ability, achievement, learning style, behavior and social/emotional status Coordinate screening and evaluation of preschoolers throughout the county Work with special education teachers to coordinate services for children Occupational Therapy Services: (OT) Teach skills crucial to independent living Make adjustments that help students achieve Prepare students for vocational placement Evaluate motor functions for preschool children Speech/Language Service: (SLP) Provide services in the areas of understanding and expressing language, development of sounds, appropriate voice quality and fluency to students who have communication disorders Provide support for children with augmentative communication systems Serve as a resource for teachers Administrative Services Conduct Superintendent searches Conduct Treasurer searches Provide financial services Provide legal services Clearinghouse for certified and non-teaching substitutes Recruit administrators, teachers and support staff Monitor teacher certification and licensure Provide mentor/entry year teacher support and training Curriculum Services Course of study revision Textbook review and adoption Assistance with grant writing High quality professional development On site consultation/classroom modeling Technical Services The MCESC Technical Services Staff is focused on helping to raise technology standards in Miami County School’s, government agencies and area businesses by providing excellent services at a low cost. We provide a variety of assistance, solutions and services including: Conduct training and workshops for using technology in the classrooms Provide computer system maintenance services for area school districts Install and configure networks and computer equipment Intervention Services Assist students in addressing behavioral and/or academic issues in the school setting Assist students in overcoming social and personal issues that impede learning Provide one-on-one intervention/consultation with students Assist home school districts in developing student behavior plans that address behavioral and/or academic issues in the school setting Coordinate peer activities to enhance positive social interactions Address areas such as team building, organization, goal setting and peer relationships
