Easy Installation Guide Overview: Installing your Rogers Digital Terminal is as easy as A - B - C A AUTHORIZE YOUR DIGITAL TERMINAL B This step programs the Digital Terminal to authorize all of the channels included in the cable package you subscribe to. PROGRAM YOUR REMOTE CONTROL & ADDITIONAL OPTIONS C STEP A CONNECT YOUR DIGITAL TERMINAL TO YOUR TV This step shows you how to connect the Digital Terminal to your Television using the best method for your particular TV This optional step will show you how to program the Digital Terminal’s universal remote to control your TV and other components. CONNECT YOUR DIGITAL TERMINAL TO YOUR TV Open the welcome kit, remove the bag of cables and unpack the cables Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the wall outlet Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the CABLE IN port of the Digital Terminal Look at the back of your TV and based on the input ports that are available select the connection method below that best matches The Digital Welcome Kit contains all of the required cables to connect the Digital Terminal to your TV. • 6' Coaxial Cable • Piggy-back RCA audio cable • Composite Video cable Note: Be sure to connect the coaxial cable DIRECTLY to the Digital Terminal and not through another device like a VCR • Component RGB Cable* (High Definition Kits only) Best Picture Quality Better Picture Quality Good Picture Quality Component connection for High Definition TVs Composite video connection for Standard Definition TVs Coaxial cable connection for Standard Definition TVs If the back of your HDTV has a Component In or RGB In you should use this connection with the provided Component cable. OR If the back of your television has a Composite In or Video In this connection will provide the best picture quality for non-HDTV and uses the provided Composite cable OR If the back of your television doesn’t have the ports required for the other connections, use this method. This connection option requires a Cable In port and uses the provided Coaxial cable Composite Video Cable Found on the back of your HDTV Coaxial Cable Component Cable Found on the back of your TV To connect via this method, follow the BLUE instructions starting at Step Component Cable for HDTVs Connect one end of the Component cable to the corresponding RGB IN port on your HDTV Found on the back of your TV To connect via this method, follow the GREEN instructions starting at Step Component Cable for HDTVs Connect the other end of the Component cable to the corresponding RGB OUT port on the Digital Box To connect via this method, follow the PURPLE instructions starting at Step Composite Video Cable Connect one end of the Composite Video cable to the VIDEO IN port on your TV Composite Video Cable Connect the other end of the Composite Video cable to the VIDEO OUT port of the Digital Terminal Next, go to Step Coaxial Cable Connect one end of the Coax cable to the CABLE IN port on your TV Coaxial Cable Connect the other end of the Coax cable to the CABLE OUT port on the Digital Terminal Next, go to Step Audio Cable Connect one end of the RCA Audio cable to the AUDIO IN port on your TV. Audio Cable Connect the other end of the RCA Audio cable to the AUDIO OUT port on the Digital Terminal Be sure to use the same input as the video cable Next, go to Step STEP B AUTHORIZE YOUR DIGITAL TERMINAL Connect the first end of the power cable to the back of the Digital Terminal Connect the other end of the power cable to the wall outlet Wait for the Digital Terminal to become Active. Active status is shown by displaying the correct time or a lit “Active” light on Terminals without a display. Turn on the Digital Terminal by pressing the Power button on the front or use the included remote control. Note: It can take up to 10 minutes for the Digital Terminal to become Active Note: You should keep your Rogers Digital Terminal plugged in at all times to remain authorized and receive all service updates. Turn on your TV. Set your TV to the proper input, based on the connection method you chose in Step A ***HDTV USERS ONLY*** If you have an HDTV run the Setup Wizard below, if not, proceed to Step 20 1. Turn OFF the HD Digital Terminal but not your HDTV 2. On the front of the HD Digital Terminal, press the INFO and GUIDE buttons simultaneously. 3. The Setup Wizard will begin. *NOTE It may take up to one minute for the instructions to display on your HDTV. 4. Follow the easy on-screen instructions displayed on your HDTV screen. Can you view Channel 03? Using your Digital Terminal remote control change the channel to 03 to ensure your channels are authorized. Yes: I can view Channel 03. Proceed to the next section on reverse. No: Channel 03 is “Not Authorized”. Call 1-866-894-9962 to have your digital terminal authorized. You will be prompted for your account phone number so have it ready. The HD Digital Terminal is now set for your type of HDTV, proceed to the next step. PROGRAM YOUR REMOTE CONTROL & ADDITIONAL OPTIONS STEP C In addition to operating the Digital Terminal, the Universal Remote Control is capable of controlling basic commands on your TV, VCR and even other devices. To enable these features the Remote Control needs to be programmed for your particular home entertainment components. Follow the corresponding steps to program the remote for your TV. You can also program the remote for other components by repeating the steps and substituting the TV button with the respective device button (VCR, DVD, etc.). Identify the Remote Control included in your welcome kit Due to the wide range of Digital Terminal models that Rogers offers, different remote controls are included in the welcome kits. Identify which remote was included in your welcome kit by comparing the images below. If your remote has 5 device buttons along the top and a green LIST button in the centre, follow these steps. UEI Remote Control If your remote has 4 device buttons along the top and a green LIST button in the centre, follow these steps. PVR Remote Control OR If your remote has 3 or 4 device buttons along the top you and no green List button follow these steps. 3 or 4 Device Remote Control OR Before beginning, read ALL of the steps below as some require precise timing. 1. Turn your TV on 2. Press the TV button once. The TV button will flash once. 1. Turn your TV on 3. Press and hold SETUP until the TV button flashes twice; then release SETUP. 4. Press 9 - 9 - 1 on the remote keypad, the TV button will flash twice. 2. Press and hold the TV and SELECT buttons at the same time until the AUX, VCR, TV, and CBL buttons flash twice 1. Turn your TV on 3. Press 9 - 9 - 1 on the remote keypad, the TV button will flash twice 2. Press and hold the TV and SELECT buttons AT THE SAME TIME until the light at the top of the remote flashes twice. 5. With the remote pointed towards your TV press PWR once. 3. Press 9 - 9 - 1 on the remote keypad. ** Get ready, this step requires precise timing! ** 4. With the remote pointed towards your TV press the PLAY button once then position your thumb above the SELECT button BUT DON’T PRESS SELECT YET!. 6. Repeatedly press and release the CH+ button until your TV turns off. The remote will cycle through all possible codes until a match is found. Note: You may need to press the CH+ button dozens of times before finding a match. 5. The INSTANT your TV turns off, press the SELECT button, if you press it too late you’ll have to repeat these steps. The remote may take up to 3 minutes to try all possible codes, each time a new code is attempted the TV light will flash. 7. Once the TV turns off, press the SETUP button once to lock the code. The TV button will flash twice. 8. Confirm the correct code was locked by pressing the PWR button to turn on your TV 5. Once the TV turns off, press and hold the SELECT button until the light blinks twice, locking the code. 6. After you’ve pressed SELECT to lock in the code, test your selection by pressing TV then POWER. If the TV turns on, it worked. Press SELECT to confirm the code. If the TV does NOT turn on, return to Step 4. 6. Confirm the correct code was locked by pressing the TV button to turn on your TV. (For the 4-Device Remote press POWER). The remote is now programmed for your particular TV. You can also program it for other components by repeating the steps and substituting the TV button with the respective device button (VCR, DVD, etc.). OPTIONAL Want to connect more to your TV than just the Rogers Digital Terminal? The order in which you connect your equipment is very important. Below is the recommended connection order for both High Definition and Standard Televisions. Additional cables may be required. DVD Player VCR What will this do for me? How do I connect it? What cables could I use? Where can I get more information? Lets you watch DVDs on your TV by selecting the correct input on your TV. Audio and Video OUT on the DVD player directly to Audio & Video IN on TV. RCA Audio & Video, RCA Audio & S-Video. (Not provided by Rogers) Consult your DVD player manual for additional possibilities. You can also find additional information at www.rogershelp.com/connections and select Digital Cable Connections. Lets you watch Video Tapes on your TV by selecting the correct input on your TV. Audio and Video OUT on the Digital Terminal to Audio & Video IN on the VCR. Audio and Video OUT on the VCR to Audio & Video IN on your TV. RCA Audio & Video, Coaxial Cable. Audio OUT on the Digital Terminal to Audio IN on the Stereo. RCA Audio, Optical Audio, RCA Digital Audio. Stereo / Home Theatre Lets you listen to programs through your stereo or home theatre audio system by selecting the correct input on your Stereo. What Is The Default PIN? What Channels Are Available? Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) is a security feature required to order Pay-Per-View, Rogers On Demand programs and access parental controls. Before you can access these features you will be prompted to enter your PIN as shown here. Reset the Digital Terminal by unplugging the power cord for 10 seconds before reconnecting 2. Call 1-866-894-9962 to reauthorize your Digital Terminal 3. Follow the instructions provided by the telephone prompts Can’t view High Definition programming Not all programs available in High Definition Channels 473 to 540 are designated for HD content, many programs on these channels will be shown in HD and often have “(HD)” in their Interactive Program Guide title. HDTV not connected with HDTV cables Connect your HD Digital Terminal to your HDTV using HD Component cables as shown on the reverse side of this guide. Correct Function button not selected If you are trying to control your Digital Terminal, press the “CBL” button on your Rogers remote control. If you are trying to control any of your other equipment, select the appropriate Function button (i.e. TV, VCR etc.) Remote not programmed to control your other home entertainment equipment Follow the instructions in “Step C” above to program your remote control to your Digital Terminal Remote batteries are dead Replace the batteries in the remote, be sure to insert the batteries correctly. Consult your television manufacturer’s documentation for more information. Always keep your digital terminal plugged in to the power outlet and connected to the cable outlet, do not disconnect it when not in use. To give you the best possible service, updates are sent periodically to the digital terminal and if the terminal is not connected and plugged in, you may miss an update. Also, if the terminal is disconnected for a longer period of time, your channels may become unauthorized when the terminal is reconnected.
