Founded by the Vikings and later
emerging as a major Norman
stronghold, Waterford is Ireland’s
oldest city. 1100 years of history lie
scattered throughout the city in the form
of curving, narrow medieval streets,
museums, historic monuments and
buildings. The Viking Triangle lies in
the heart of the city, home to the world
famous Waterford Crystal Factory, the
city’s Georgian Museum in the restored
Bishop’s Palace and the Viking Museum
at Reginald’s Tower.
Our suggested
tour stops and
excursion routes
will introduce
you to many of
the region’s most
scenic locations,
traditional
villages and
some of Ireland’s
true hidden
gems.
Waterford is the gateway to the South
East of Ireland, a region of lush green
valleys, mountains, lively coastal
villages and vibrant cities. The compact
nature of the region allows handling
agents to offer an extensive range of
day and half day cultural excursions.
Arriving in Waterford, cruise passengers
can enjoy the museums of the Viking
Triangle, visit Waterford Crystal or take
a walking tour of Ireland’s oldest city
before setting off to explore the many
must see attractions throughout the
region.
Visit Ireland’s Medieval Capital,
Kilkenny, with its cobbled winding
alleyways, imposing 12th-century castle
and lively cosy bars, or the charming
coastal town of Wexford, home to the
internationally acclaimed Wexford
Opera Festival.
The South East boasts some of Ireland’s
most beautiful estate houses and
gardens, including Johnstown Castle,
Lismore Castle and Gardens and John
F. Kennedy Arboretum.

surrounds, historic towns like Lismore,
Co. Waterford or Cashel, Co. Tipperary
serve as reminders of the rich heritage
of the region and can easily be
incorporated into a day excursion.
The Rock of Cashel and Jerpoint
Abbey are fine examples of imposing
ecclesiastical sites that lay testament
to the region’s important Christian
Heritage.
The South East has a collection of
impressive interpretation centres, such

of the endless stream of emigrants
escaping the Great Famine, across to
North America. Discover the fascinating

locations, traditional villages and some
of Ireland’s true hidden gems.
Waterford Crystal Factory
Waterford City
The world’s leading luxury crystal
brand was originally founded in
1783 by two brothers William and
George Penrose. They decided
they wanted “to create the finest
quality crystal for drinking vessels
and objects of beauty for the home.”
Their aspirations gave rise to the
now world famous Waterford Crystal,
which has been designing and
manufacturing some of the world’s
most exquisite pieces of tableware
and gifts for over 200 years.
The Waterford Crystal factory,
located in the heart of Waterford
City, welcomes visitors to witness the
skill of the craftsmen as they mould,
blow, cut and engrave crystal. After
watching the master craftsmen
at work, visitors can browse
the House of Waterford Crystal
showroom, where a huge range of
elegant pieces are on display.
Distributed throughout the
world, Waterford Crystal remains
a constant source of pride
to the people of Ireland.

Viking Triangle
Waterford’s Historic City Centre

the heart of the city, located on
the site of the original 9th-century
Viking settlement. It is home to
museums, national monuments and
over a thousand years of history.
Reginald’s Tower, dating back to
the Norman period showcases
a collection of intriguing Viking
artefacts, the city’s modern history is
celebrated at the restored Georgian
Bishop’s Palace, while Waterford’s
medieval history can be explored at
Choristers’ Hall, opening Summer
2012. Waterford has a rich cultural
tradition and within the triangle,
located in a beautiful Victorian
playhouse is the Theatre Royal.
A spectacular display of indigenous
craftsmanship can be witnessed at
