Waterford Crystal Factory Waterford City The world’s leading luxury crystal brand was originally founded in 1783 by two brothers William and George Penrose. They decided they wanted “to create the finest quality crystal for drinking vessels and objects of beauty for the home.” Their aspirations gave rise to the now world famous Waterford Crystal, which has been designing and manufacturing some of the world’s most exquisite pieces of tableware and gifts for over 200 years. The Waterford Crystal factory, located in the heart of Waterford City, welcomes visitors to witness the skill of the craftsmen as they mould, blow, cut and engrave crystal. After watching the master craftsmen at work, visitors can browse the House of Waterford Crystal showroom, where a huge range of elegant pieces are on display. It is home to museums, national monuments and over a thousand years of history. Reginald’s Tower, dating back to the Norman period showcases a collection of intriguing Viking artefacts, the city’s modern history is celebrated at the restored Georgian Bishop’s Palace, while Waterford’s medieval history can be explored at Choristers’ Hall, opening Summer 2012.
