mentsofaPlotDiagramwith3LittlePigs.ppt ● Plot Diagram worksheet (attached) ● The Three Little Pigs video www.youtube.com/watch?v=leAh00n3hno Part 1: 1. Begin the class discuss by asking the following questions: ● What is a portrait? ● How would you describe a portrait to someone who does not know what it means? ● Where do you see portraits? 2. Tell class that with each of the six elements of portraiture we will learn a hand gesture to help remember. ● Facial Expression (use your hand to make a circle around your face) ● Focal Point (bring fingers right beside your eyes) ● Gesture (make a fist and swing your arm up across your chest) ● Clothing (pinch the shoulders of the clothes you are wearing) ● Setting (draw an imaginary rectangle with your fingers) ● Objects (with arms in a semicircle, have your fist “land” in the palm of your other hand) 3. Have several portraits laid out for the class to look at. In each picture make sure to observe the six elements that were just discussed. ● What mood or feeling is the person’s face expressing? ● Where are the person’s eyes looking? ● What is the action or pose of the body? ● What is the person wearing? ● Where is the person? What is the time period? What time of day? ● What else is in the portrait? 4. Allow students to compare and contrast portraits based on the elements. ● Can you infer what story the artist is trying to communicate about the life of the person or people? 5. In closing, tell class they can also use these elements when looking at a picture book or stories with pictures. Part 2: 1. Repeat the hand gestures for review of what was learned in Part 1. ● What does the hand gesture that looks like a square frame represent? 2. Use Nearpod to review/teach the elements of a story. (Refer to the Nearpod Quick Start Guide for help) ● The lesson includes the PreQuiz, drawing, video, website access, PDF viewer, and PowerPoint. (In addition to being on Nearpod, the information is attached or the link can be found in the materials section) 3. Using the iMotion app (stop motion video), create a video with at least 30 pictures using legos, clay, and paper to recreate a story from a chosen book. ● This part can also be done using the Puppet Pals app where the students create a background using the legos, clay, and paper to take a photo to use as the setting. 4. The story should include the characters, tell of a conflict, have a climax and then, close with a resolution. ● Sample book options: Goldilocks Jack and the Beanstalk Three Little Pigs Rapunzel Rumpelstiltskin Ginger Bread Man Hansel and Gretel 5. In closing, share each video with the class. Have viewers try to guess what the story was that they were trying to recreate. Vocabulary and Terms
