KAREN VOLD Karen Womack Vold has dedicated her entire life to the trick riding and rodeo industries. From her humble beginnings in Phoenix, Arizona she trick rode in her first professional rodeo at age fourteen. Thus began a marvelous journey of life as a professional trick rider and achieving another childhood dream of becoming a “Cowboy’s Sweetheart” when she and Harry Vold married in 1972. Her 1978 induction into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Museum, along with her receipt of the honorable Tad Lucas Memorial Award in 1992, more than exemplifies her dedication to preserving our Western Heritage. During the spring each year Karen hosts “Trick Riding” schools for young men and women anxious to learn more about the profession. Karen and Harry still spend most of their time on the road annually, but when they are not producing quality rodeos across the country, you can find them at home on their ranch in Avondale, Colorado. KIRSTEN VOLD The youngest of six children, Kirsten took over as General Manager of the Harry Vold Rodeo Company when she was just 25 years-old. "I was going to be a lawyer and drive a sports car and live in L.A.," she said in a 2009 interview. "Everybody assumes that I was groomed for this from the time I was a child, as if this is the only thing I've ever wanted to do, and quite honestly, that's really not the case.” After graduating from University of Southern Colorado in 1996 with a BA in Communications, Kirsten felt that her professional destiny was as yet unfulfilled and decided to move back to her father's ranch. It was not easy being the only woman – and a very young woman, at that – in a man's world, but with her staunch determination and unparalleled work ethic, Kirsten eventually won over even her toughest critics and took her father's place at the helm. Kirsten now spends more than 200 days each year on the rodeo trail . A genuine love of animals is the driving force behind the young woman that now manages 30,000 acres of short-grass prairie, raising some 350 bucking horses. According to Kirsten, her greatest personal achievement is Painted Valley, an 11 year-old stud who has been selected to six National Finals Rodeos, was voted best Saddle Bronc Horse of the WNFR in 2009 and in 2010 Painted Valley was named PRCA Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year. "If you ask me, the number one reason why I do what I do, it's because of the animals," she beams. "I love working with animals." THE TRADITION: “Providing fun, wholesome family entertainment and fair competition for the cowboys has always been our goal…” Harry Vold THE COMMISSION: “The Livestock is the most important part of what we do… Healthy, athletic horses and bulls have kept us in business for many, many years…” Harry Vold PAINTED VALLEY AGE: 11 COLOR: Bay Paint SEX: STUD PAINTED VALLEY is a ranch raised stud 6x NFR– son of Harry Vold's 6x NFR mare 050 Big Valley and a Brookman Rodeo Company stud. In 2010, Painted Valley and Cody DeMoss paired up to set the arena record in Cheyenne at 91 points in the short round. Additionally, Painted Valley racked up the Best Bronc in San Antonio on the way to his 4th selection to the NFR. Most notably, in 2010 Painted Valley was awarded the most coveted honor in rodeo, winning the 2010 PRCA Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year.
