Kollin J. Zimmermann is an associate in the Los Angeles office. Kollin received his Bachelor of
Science in Economics from Auburn University in 2006. He received his Juris Doctor from the
University of San Diego School of Law in 2010.
A native of New Orleans, Kollin worked for the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Program
(“JEDCO”) before attending law school. At JEDCO, he administered a state and federal
cooperative government relief program designed to aid the economic recovery of New Orleans
from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
While attending the University of San Diego School of Law, Kollin was an avid participant in legal
advocacy competitions and courses. As a member of USD’s National Moot Court Team, he
competed in the Capital University National Moot Court Tournament, where he was a
quarter-finalist and won an award for writing the second best brief. He also competed in the
Jessup International Law Moot Court Intramural Tournament, where he won first place overall
and received an award for writing a top-four brief. Upon graduation, Kollin received the Virginia
C. Nelson Graduation Award for being the outstanding student in advanced advocacy courses.
Kollin was also a member of the Intellectual Property Law Association and the runner-up in the
ASCAP Nathan Burkan Memorial National Copyright Competition for his article: “Actual Transfer”
vs. “Making Available”: A Critical Analysis of The Exclusive Right to Distribute Copyrighted Works.
In addition, he worked for USD’s Academic Support Program as a Teaching Assistant for
Professor Steven D. Smith’s Constitutional Law course. Finally, Kollin worked as a judicial extern
for The Honorable Peter C. Lewis of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
Mr. Zimmermann's practice includes a broad range of business, intellectual property, and civil
rights litigation, with a primary focus on the interconnection between intellectual property rights
and the internet. Having published several articles in this area, Kollin received a Burton Award
for Distinguished Legal Writing in 2013, which was given to the 30 best law firm writers among
the nation’s top 1,000 most prestigious and largest law firms. Kollin has experience litigating
matters involving Copyright, Trademark, Patent, Trade Secret, Fraud, Antitrust, and First
Amendment issues. He also has experience negotiating and drafting licensing and other business
agreements. Kollin has been a guest lecturer for UCLA’s Business Planning course, and he prides
himself on providing effective and cost-efficient advice to his clients.
Kollin is admitted to practice law in all California State Courts and the Federal Courts for the
Central, Southern, Northern, and Eastern Districts of California. He is a member of the
