Welcome to Summer Camps at Midland Center for the Arts!
Take a moment to explore the world of creative camps
available to your child this summer.

The Children's School of Music (TCSOM)
creates life-long inner expression and
creativity by uncovering children’s natural,
musical talents. Carefully constructed
courses allow children to learn the basic
building blocks of music, including vocal,
rhythmic, piano and note reading skills.
Located in the lower level of MCFTA.

To receive any museum member discounts noted in descriptions, you must register
by phone or in person. If you are interested in becoming a museum member to
receive discounts and additional benefits, please contact the Ticket Office.
PARENT INFORMATION
A confirmation will be given to you that will include a medical consent form and
code of conduct; these should be completed and returned as soon as possible.
After June 1 our Summer Camp Newsletter will be e-mailed to families with
information regarding pick-up and drop-off details, what to bring, what not to
bring and other pertinent information.
REFUND/change POLICY
Last Day for Refunds/Changes: May 25, 2016 for camps beginning in June
June 24, 2016 for camps beginning in July
July 20, 2016 for camps beginning in August
• All refunds will be subject to a 15% processing fee.
• Refunds for class or camp tuition fees must be requested prior to the refund deadline.
If the minimum number of students required is not met by the deadlines MCFTA
reserves the right to cancel the class or camp and provide a full refund of all paid
fees. Processing fee will not apply to classes or camps cancelled by MCFTA.

Half Day Morning: 9 am – 12 pm
Half Day Afternoon: 1 – 4 pm
SUPERVISED LUNCHTIMES
Available for campers age 6 & up who are attending a morning and an afternoon
camp during the same week. (Campers must provide their own sack lunch.)
Pre-registration Required! Space is limited; first come, first served.
Cost: $10 for the week (No registration is needed for full-day camp; lunchtime is part of those programs.)
Toddler Tunes

Come explore music using fun and silly songs,
small percussion instruments, keyboard games,
and rhythm and movement activities using
hoops, streamers and balls! Class does not meet
July 7.

Pirates & Princesses
The Rhythm is Gonna Get You
Ages: 3½ – 5 • $112
Come join Cinderella & Captain Hook on a
fanciful journey through castles and desert
islands. Pirate and princess songs are mixed
with our preschool age music program and is a
dynamic readiness program for young children
with emphasis on ear training, solfege singing and
pitch, movement, keyboard activities and rhythm.
Ages: 6 – 10 • $168
In this outrageously fun camp, we'll explore
different rhythm instruments each day and
learn to play different rhythm patterns as an
ensemble! We will focus on understanding and
reading note values and on drawing notes and
time signatures. We will even try playing some
trash cans! This class is great for anyone who
aspires to be in a band, or play in 5th grade band.

Young Musicians
Summer Camp

Ages: 6 – 10 • $168
This is for those who want to try piano for the
first time. We will be working on rhythm, note
reading, and of course, playing lots of piano.
*Students must have independent
bathroom skills.
Books & Music

Ages: 3½ – 5 • $112
Explore rhyme and rhythm in this camp that
combines classic children's literature with
music. Campers will enjoy many wonderful
books while also trying their hands at rhythmic
instruments, songs, basic navigation of the
piano and reading music.
Carnival of Animals
Singer Songwriter
Ages: 3½ – 5 • $112
Journey through a jungle, a farm and a safari
and encounter some creepy crawly critters as
we explore the Carnival of Animals music
from composer, Saint Saën. Mixed with our
preschool age music program, this camp will
emphasize singing, movement, rhythm and
keyboard activities. Imagination required!
Ages: 6 – 10 • $168
Write some new lyrics and make up your own
songs! Come join us for a class of singing and
learning new vocal music skills. We'll sing
lots of Disney and popular songs, as well as
practicing singing in solfege. We'll also have
fun "taking requests" from the group, so bring
your favorite songs!

Music Around the World
Strum Along - Guitar Camp
Ages: 3½ – 5 • $112
Explore the world through the music of
different cultures. Make an African drum,
dance an Irish jig and sing and play music from
around the globe. Our preschool-age music
program includes music from many cultures,
offering this camp great diversity in our
emphasis of singing, rhythm, movement and
piano activities. World travelers welcome!
Ages: 6 – 10 • $168
A specially adapted guitar method will be the
focus of this camp. Basic music theory and
skills such as tuning the guitar and reading
chord charts will be taught. We will work on
beginning chords, strumming, rhythm and
learning basic songs. Kids will be able to play
real songs by the end of camp, while having
a whole lot of fun exploring the guitar many
different ways. Students must have a guitar
for this camp.

Intro to Pop Piano

This is the perfect camp for those who would
like to learn how to play today’s favorite songs!
Campers will practice their skills including the
basics of reading from a pop lead sheet, piano
chord progressions, and improvising melody
lines based on given chords. Two years piano
experience preferred.
Preschool Drama

Channel your child's imagination! Preschoolers
will begin a life-long enjoyment of creative arts
when they act out their favorite stories, move
with different types of music, and embrace their
silly side! Early participation in drama develops

fall will prepare for the exciting move to BIG
KID school by practicing their basic literacy,
math, fine motor and oral language skills.

Explore the basic concepts of the sciences such

beautiful and scary things found in a drop of
pond water.

Bang a drum, shake a stick, beat a block!
Explore the basics of rhythm and playing in
