It will be ready for bottling very soon. We hope to have it available by Strawberry Festival, but the wine will determine when it is ready, not us. Fingers crossed! Once again, voters named Cedar Creek Winery the Best Winery in the Milwaukee area for 2014. To determine the winner, voters had more than 10 nominees to choose from. Cedar Creek Winery was also awarded 2015 Winner Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Thanks to all of you for your votes and recommending us to you family and friends! Winery of the Year Based upon our combined competition results (Cedar Creek and Wollersheim Wineries) our sister winery, the Wollersheim Winery won big at the 2015 Riverside International Wine Competition (RIWC), which took place May 5-7 in Riverside, Calif. The Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin-based winery was named the competition’s 2015 Small Winery of the Year. Wollersheim Winery’s Dry Riesling took the gold medal, while its Prairie Fumé, White Riesling and Prairie Blush all took silver. Wollersheim Winery’s sister winery, Cedar Creek Winery won silver medals for its Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio and La Belle Vie wines. Wollersheim Winery Winemaker Philippe Coquard said, “Winning this honor feels great. Since we were awarded Winery of the Year and Wine of the Year [at the San Diego International Wine Competition in 2012 and 2013], you think it will never happen again, but it did happen again. Riverside is a famous wine competition.” Summer in the Vineyard From T Winemhaek As is usual, the weather went from cool to warm. Over one weekend we went from only buds to leaf-out. It was a rather fast bud break. We are witnessing some missing buds due to winter injury or winter kill. We certainly didn't expect that. We are realizing that it is not only due to this past winter but the accumulation of a severe drought and the following winters. We are almost ready to start suckering which is the removal of unwanted shoots that form on the trunks of the vines. It also allows us to select a few new shoots if and when we suspect that the trunk or the fruiting zone will need to be replaced. er We have no new plantings this year but have 1.5 acres of baby vines entering their 2nd and very critical year. These vine will require lots of TLC. It is nice to see the green shoots and we are hoping for a good season. We are in touch with all our local growers, monitoring how they all are doing and so far so good. Marquette in the barrels. Marquette is coming back. We have a dozen barrels that we are watching carefully. It is aging gracefully and will come out of our Wisconsin oak barrels very soon. It is a touch lighter than the previous vintage. We are looking forward to a great release very soon. The other two barrel aged wines, Cabernet and Syrah are evolving nicely and will be ready by fall. Distillery Construction is moving fast. All the walls are up and the masons are finishing the decorative stones on the front of the building. We will have a roof by the weekend. The basement ceilings are filling up with pipes... drains, water, process piping, heat, cold etc....We are very excited with the prospect of being able to distill soon. The Grand Opening is in preparation, scheduled for the 14th and 15th of August. We will be releasing our Coquard Brandy #3, aged Apple, Clear Apple and hopefully some Gin and Absinthe. I say "hopefully" because we want it to be from our own distilled spirit and not a purchased neutral spirit which is widely available on the market. Just as we are winemakers, we are also distillers...we MAKE it all and don't cut corners. It is a new venture, a new business-like starting all over again. It's challenging but very interesting and we can't wait to be distilling! We have grand plans... 25 years... Time is FLYING. We are so excited to be able to share with all of you some good times and celebrate 25 year of Cedar Creek Winery. Our focus every day is to make the best wine possible, and those successful days of great wine become years of great wine. Hopefully you can make the Garden Party on the evening of July 17th and we can celebrate the years together. Philippe
