President’s Report
Happy New Year Members ,I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable time with your family and friends, our second last
event for this our anniversary year, the Summer Show Case at LUS Club was its usual high standard and the judge Jane
Hosking assistant Director from the Manning Regional Gallery expressed high opinion of the work on display. Her
judgement on the various sections were popular, needless to say the winner of last year’s Emerging Artist Prize Vanessa
Newell took away the major prize the Open Section, it’s been a good year for Vanessa with her work accepted into the
Nude and Naked exhibition at the Manning Regional Gallery and now this, many others were recognized and a full report
is in this edition.
Unfortunately sales were the lowest ever only eight paintings were sold, which is disappointing seeing the amount of work
that goes into arranging the exhibition; I wish to thank all those who helped put the show together. We made a decision
this year because of the lack of sponsorship to charge an entry fee and raise the fee for submitting your art work, while at
the moment we don’t have the final report I think we will cover the cost of the prize money but I don’t expect that we will
make much of a profit.
Of course there is one more major event for this our 30th year celebration that is “Under the Influence” Exhibition which
commences on the 7th of February with a special opening on 8th February at 2.00 pm at the cost of $10 a head an invitation
will be sent to all members closer to the time, so make sure you join us to celebrate our second appearance at the
Glasshouse as an Art Group.
Our usual activities start up for 2014 so make your selves available and enjoy your selves with a great talented group of
people at, Paint out Pals, Wednesday and Thursday art groups, Workshops, Life Drawing, first Saturday each month
(we won’t be having life drawing in February as there is a three day workshop with Jo Ernest that month and
we will be busy with other activities) so the first one will be the first Saturday in March.
And don’t forget the Have Brush Will Travel at Myall Lakes in March for a week. Brian Barker
