Painting has innumerable possibilities that are as limitless
as the horizon. The cliche that a painting should contain
only paint has been shunned in today’s day and age and
replaced with more innovative ideas. Today a painting can
contain features, clay figurines, feathers, furs, gemstones
and even rocks. The gateway of mixed media painting opens
up new avenues and widens the scope of painting and
experimentation. This issue of FeviArt is another presentation
to bring the genre of mixed media under the limelight with
the techniques used by Sherrill Kahn herself.
There are quite a few people who have earned a “big”
reputation in the paper arts and stamping industry, but no
reputation is as special as Sherrill Kahn’s.
Last year Pidilite Industries Ltd. was fortunate enough to have
Sherrill on its campus where she spent 6 days conducting

extensive workshops to teach her special mixed media techniques.
Therefore, to ensure that we don’t forget our art lovers who missed
these exciting workshops, we have compiled this issue with some of
Sherrill Kahn’s very rare mixed media techniques.
This issue is extremely educational and serves as a very good
hands-on to try something different. Enjoy the world of creativity
and turn those brilliant ideas into something extraordinarily
beautiful.

Sherrill Kahn
visits Pidilite
Industries
Sherrill Kahn was a public school Fine Arts teacher for three
decades. During that time she gave her creative skills an
outlet through drawing, painting, fibre work and design, and
teaching others these same skills. Ever since her retirement
she has continued to enlighten others by teaching nationally
and internationally for stores, conferences, guilds and
educational institutes. Sherrill also owns a company called
Impress Me and has opened paint lines, paint studios and
fabric lines. If that isn’t impressive enough, she has written
over 40 magazine articles and three books.

This certainly holds true for Sherrill who has transformed a

formative years. She has been drawing and painting ever
since she can remember. Her mother encouraged her talents
and taught her to sew, knit and crochet.
There is a saying that goes,
‘If you love what you do,
you will never have to
work a day in your life.’
Pidilite Industries was fortunate enough to have Sherrill Kahn
come to India. She arrived on 2nd December last year and
spent 6 days conducting creative activities for various groups.
This included workshops with Pidilite’s Fevicryl Hobby ldeas
teachers and super teachers and a workshop for the J. J.
School of Arts students at Pidilite Industries. In addition, she
conducted a workshop with underprivileged children at our
Hobby stores and a session with fashion designing students
at Pidilite. Thank you, Sherrill, for giving us all the chance to
enjoy your workshops and learn new and exciting creative
skills.

subjects. In characteristic Impressionist style, Renoir suggested the
details of a scene through freely brushed touches of colour, so that his
figures softly fuse with one another and their surroundings.
One of the best known Impressionist works is Renoir’s 1876 Dance at
Le Moulin de la Galette (Bal du moulin de la Galette). The painting
depicts an open-air scene, crowded with people, at a popular dance
