THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT
„You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”. EX 20,16
„It was said to the men of old, "You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.” Mt 5,33
2464 The eighth commandment forbids misrepresenting the truth in our
relations with others. This moral prescription flows from the vocation of the holy
people to bear witness to their God who is the truth and wills the truth.
2465 The Old Testament attests that God is the source of all truth. His Word is
truth. His Law is truth. His "faithfulness endures to all generations. Since God is
"true," the members of his people are called to live in the truth.
2466 In Jesus Christ, the whole of God's truth has been made manifest. "Full of grace and truth," he
came as the "light of the world," he is the Truth. "Whoever believes in me may not remain in
darkness." The disciple of Jesus continues in his word so as to know "the truth [that] will make
you free" and that sanctifies. To follow Jesus is to live in "the Spirit of truth," whom the Father
sends in his name and who leads "into all the truth." To his disciples Jesus teaches the unconditional
love of truth: "Let what you say be simply 'Yes or No.'"

Fr. Anthony Stephens (a.k.a, Fr. Tony) was born in 1976 and is a native of Angelus,
Kansas. He grew up working on the family farm, and he is the oldest of seven children. He
attended local public schools for the first twelve years of his education, where he was involved
with many of the academic and extracurricular activities that were made available to him. In 1995,
he went to Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, and he graduated from Christendom in
1999. Discerning a call to religious life and the priesthood, he joined the Fathers of Mercy in
2000. He studied for the priesthood at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and
he was ordained a priest in 2005. For two years, he served as the associate pastor of St. Luke's
Catholic Church in Nicholasville, KY, serving the needs of the Catholic faithful in rural
Kentucky. He was assigned as a missionary for the community when he became a member of the
mission band in 2007. In 2009, he was appointed to be the Student Master and the Vocation
Director for the Fathers of Mercy. In this role, he has worked with young men as they discern a
call to the Fathers of Mercy to be missionaries and proclaim God's mercy. He currently resides at
the Fathers of Mercy Generalate near Auburn, KY.

padre es el diablo [...] porque no hay verdad en él;

powołania Ludu świętego, by był świadkiem swojego Boga,
który jest prawdą i chce prawdy.
Żyd w prawdzie
2465 Stary Testament zaświadcza, że Bóg jest źródłem
wszelkiej prawdy. Jego słowo jest prawdą. Jego prawo jest
prawd. "Jego wiernośd... (trwa) z pokolenia na pokolenie" (Ps
119, 90. ponieważ Bóg jest "prawdomówny" (Rz 3, 4),
członkowie Jego Ludu są wezwani do życia w prawdzie.
2466 W Jezusie Chrystusie Boża prawda objawiła się w pełni.
"Pełen łaski i prawdy" (J 1, 14), jest On "światłością świata" (J
8,12), jest Prawdą. "Kto w (Niego) wierzy, nie pozostaje w
ciemności" (J 12, 46). Uczeo Jezusa "trwa w Jego nauce", by
37).
2468 Prawda jako prawośd postępowania i prawośd słowa
ludzkiego nazywa się prawdomównością, szczerością lub
otwartością.
Wykroczenia przeciw prawdzie
2475 Uczniowie Chrystusa "przyoblekli człowieka nowego,
stworzonego według Boga, w sprawiedliwości i prawdziwej
świętości" (Ef 4, 24). "Odrzuciwszy kłamstwo" (Ef 4, 25), mają
"odrzucid... wszelkie zło, wszelki podstęp i udawanie, zazdrośd
i jakiekolwiek złe mowy" (1 P 2,1).
Fałszywe świadectwo i krzywoprzysięstwo!
Obmowa i oszczerstwo niszczą dobre imię i cześd bliźniego
Próżnośd lub samochwalstwo stanowią grzech przeciw
prawdzie. To samo dotyczy ironii, która zmierza do poniżenia
kogoś przez ośmieszanie w sposób nieprzychylny pewnego
aspektu jego postępowania.
"Kłamstwo polega na mówieniu nieprawdy z intencją
oszukania".
8, 44).
Dni Eucharystyczne: W najbliższym tygodniu obchodzimy I
