Grand Monarch David C. Blythe, Jr. and Lady Jenny My year is winding down and our travels have been quite enjoyable. We now look forward to seeing everyone visit us in our beautiful city of New Orleans. We do hope ya’ll can make it to convention this year. New Orleans offers such a variety of things to see and to do. If you haven’t already made your reservations, I urge you to do so without delay as the hotel seems to be filling up quickly. I received a copy of Oola Khan Grotto’s newsletter and so enjoyed the message they wrote in it by an Author Unknown, that I am having it re-printed here and do hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I send my thanks to the Prophets of Oola Khan for providing such an enjoyable read. THEN IT’S WINTER—Author Unknown You know time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married, embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, I wonder where those years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like. But, here it is, my friends are retired and getting grey, they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better or worse shape than me, but, I see the great change. Not like the ones that I remember, who were young and vibrant, but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! Taking a nap is not a treat anymore it's mandatory! If I don't on my own free will I just fall asleep where I sit! So, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches, pains, loss of strength, ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know, that when it's over on this earth it's NOT over. Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done, things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. So, if you're not in your winter yet let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY! HAVE A FUN DAY! A new adventure will begin! And remember: "It is health that is the real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” "LIVE HAPPY IN THIS YEAR AND EVERY YEAR! CONSIDER THIS: TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.” Going out is good. Coming home is better! You forget names but it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you!!! The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore. You tend to use more 4 letter words: "What?" "When?" Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere. You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear. Old is good in some things: Old Songs, movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!! It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived. Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" and “Laissez les bon Temps Roulez” “Let the Good Times Roll!” Page 3 of 24 Be safe in your travels….we will see ya’ll n NOLA! So be sure to register early! Did you know? Azusa Grotto in Charlotte, North Carolina merged with Nubia Grotto in New Bern, North Carolina. I would like to start by expressing our sympathy regarding the loss of Executive Secretary Emeritus, Bill Wears, PGM. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. The Daughters of Mokanna is a social organization for women and it is associated with the Grottoes of North America. Its purpose is to assist and cooperate with the members of the Grotto and help them in their social and philanthropic endeavors. The major Humanitarian work is Dental for Children with Special Needs as well as other causes. The minimum number it takes to form a new Caldron is 25. Eligibility requirements consist of being a female who is 18 years or older and related to a Veiled Prophet of the Enchanted Realm, a Master Mason in good standing, with a recognized Masonic Lodge or a female relative of a female in a Masonic affiliated organization. The Supreme Caldron is the governing body and it meets annually in September. The Supreme Mighty Chosen One visits all the subordinate Caldrons during her year. The 97th Supreme Session of the Daughters of Mokanna will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on September 14-17th, 2016, in Little Rock, Arkansas. We would love to have as many Daughters as possible, along with their Prophets. We have a Tag-A-Longs group for any men in attendance. We were honored to be asked to donate DOM Fezzes to the Attleboro Masonic Museum. We donated four different Fezzes that had been worn by women of the Caldron. The DOM have a Blue Fez for new members, a Red Fez for the Presiding Mighty Chosen One of a subordinate Caldron and a White Fez with a purple tassel after she completes her year and becomes a Past MCO. If she becomes a Supreme Officer she will retain the White Fez but exchange the purple tassel with a gold one. The Supreme Mighty Chosen One wears a Purple Fez with a black tassel. Any lady of a Prophet who is interested in becoming a DOM or any Grotto that would like to have a Caldron for their ladies, may contact me, or our Rodeval, Barbara Turner, for information. We also have a Supreme Caldron that a lady may join if there is not a Caldron in her vicinity. Today, all we seem to hear is how BAD the market is doing, how POOR our INVESTMENTS are doing. We are making no IMPROVEMENT in our PORTFOLIOS, our PENSIONS are SHRINKING, when is everything going to right itself? We, the Trustees of your FOUNDATION, are, and have been, looking at required services, all expenditures, trimming of all acceptable costs in an effort to MAINTAIN and SOLIDIFY the foundation for the FUTURE. In order to MAINTAIN a BALANCED BUDGET, changes are required within the Humanitarian Foundation. Please bare with us as we implement changes to help the Foundation GROW. In saying that, we can PROUDLY say—YOU the PROPHETS and LADIES—have kept us on the EVEN KEEL. YES—our PORTFOLIO has not GROWN the way we hoped it would, but the GENEROSITY of the PROPHETS and LADIES is keeping us going as we continue to PROVIDE DENTISTRY for OUR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN. Without YOUR LOYAL SUPPORT, we would be in trouble. With your CONTINUED support and a better return on YOUR investments, YOUR Foundation should grow for the FUTURE. With that, the Trustees offer CONGRATULATIONS to Thomas Lilies of Bendemeer Grotto for completing the $25,000.00 level. The Foundation THANKS you for a job well done. Meet Your 2016 Poster Child, Annabelle!! Annabelle is 10 years old and has been diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. She has been in the dental program since 2013. Zendah Grotto, in Tampa, Florida, is her Sponsor. As with all our children, we think of Annabelle as one of our very special young ladies. We send our sincere gratitude to Zendah Grotto for their sponsorship! A thank you note from a parent… As a single mother of two children, one with the Fragile X disability and the other being in their senior year of college, you will never know how much your organization means to me and my family! May God bless you in all you do for those in need! Kindest Regards, Karen S. North Carolina Yours in Goodfellowship, Shuards Sutherland, PGM Chairman, Humanitarian Foundation P.S. Leroy is still watching and is very proud of the work the Grottoes are doing. Remember to book your Toothbrush Days, Get Clowning around, use your Mini Bikes and Cars and be seen by the Public …. These are the people who can help us GROW. Considering holding a Toothbrush Day? Contact the Humanitarian Foundation Office at 614-933-0711 to learn how your Grotto can raise funds for the dentistry program by passing out toothbrushes at your next fundraising event!
