That word has been stuck in my mind for the past couple of years when it comes to various aspects of my life. I desire to be intentional in my role as a believer, as a husband and father, as well as my role at WRCM and WMHK. One of the ways I can be intentional is by sowing into others when I have the opportunity and I believe that being a Gold Member of CMB is one way to do that. You may think, “Well, Joe’s a board member, so he’s probably forced into being a gold member.” That’s actually not true. In fact, there has been no internal discussion that CMB board members are expected to be gold members. Rather, this is an opportunity to extend my support, offer my experience, and sow into the industry to which God has called me. Sure, the benefits are there as a plus (like the included registration to Momentum and Gold member-only events), but those were not my primary motivation. I firmly believe in CMB as a resource for stations all around the country and as a driving force to propel us as a whole toward being more effective in influencing as many people as possible with the life-changing reality of Jesus Christ. I hope that you will consider asking, in the words of JFK, not what CMB can do for you, but what you can do for CMB. Go Gold! CMB Membership CMB membership is now an individual member structure that is open to any person who embraces CMB’s mission and vision to better reach and engage people through Christian music broadcasting with the goal of ensuring that Christian music broadcasting’s excellence and influence is second to none. Don’t Miss it! 2 www.cmbonline.org - CMB Update - March 2012 “Some words of encouragement for CMB” Dwight Bain, LMHC Founder of The Lifeworks Group, Inc. We meet a lot of strangers through Christian broadcasting. People who are hurting, lost, lonely and afraid who are wandering across a radio dial searching for something to listen to… something to distract them from the emptiness of their lives. When they stumble across your station and find you – what do they find? Before you feel beat up with a question like that, let me tell you a story of meeting a stranger this morning. A young man I’ve never met tried to sell me a product I didn’t need. When I told him I wasn’t interested we started talking about other things. In the course of our brief conversation I said, ‘tell me your story’ and he began to share more personal information. How his business was struggling, he had no time for his girlfriend and then tearfully shared how his father had suddenly died a few weeks before Christmas. Now he has to be the strong one for his entire family and doesn’t really have anyone to turn to. He quickly sucked up his tears, apologized for getting emotional with a stranger and told me how hard it has been without his father who was also his best friend. We traded contact information so we could have another conversation. I look forward to our next encounter. Jesus smiles when we stop and listen to the stories of hurting people. To invite them into a safe conversation where they can unpack some pain and then find enough hope and encouragement to press on through the day. Isn’t that why people come to your station - To find a safe place of hope and encouragement? Maybe they come by accident, or maybe they heard about you from a friend - but they are the core of what Christian broadcasting is about- helping lonely people find a real relationship with Jesus. If you are feeling stressed, busy or burned out today remember that there are some strangers in your backyard desperately searching for connection. Make it safe for them to share their story and you will be shocked at how many want to stay connected, and who will become loyal listeners. May you find new strength to have little conversations with strangers because when you do, it makes such a difference for the Kingdom. Since most of those lonely people listening won’t stop by to let you know you helped I’ll say it for them. “You have no idea how you helped me make it through the day, I’m so grateful for you.” We all need words of encouragement to press on in these tough times. I pray you may find comfort in these words from Moses, who said, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today... The LORD will fight for you."
