Tradition of Successful
Performance
The employees of Merkur have been united by two
things, pride in the company’s past achievements
and the upcoming challenges.
The 110-year tradition gives us the courage to
constantly upgrade sales programmes, extend the
sales surfaces, and look into the future with
confidence combined with prudence.
Marijana Kajzer
Member of the Management Board –
Director of Labour Relations
Further growth of the company depends on the
creative ideas of its employees. The development is
driven by customers’ requirements, and the advance
is provided by the ability to fulfil our promises given
to our partners, investors and owners, who in turn
grow with us and achieve new business success.
We take pride in our past achievements. Since ten
years ago, Merkur has increased its profit four-fold,
the difference in price 3.9 times, the sales surface 6
times, and the value of the Merkur share 5.2 times.
Our vision is clear: Merkur intends to further
consolidate its leading marketing position in sales
of quality products and services in Slovenia, and
develop and strengthen the Merkur brand name
on the neighbouring markets.
Thanks to all this, the mission of the Merkur Group
employees will come true, and give satisfaction to
our customers, business partners and owners alike.
„Welcome to the company of a thousand smiles.”

Retail Sales, a Pleasant Shopping Experience
Merkur sales centres offer a wide variety of
products.
MERKURDOM transforms doing the shopping into
a pleasurable experience for retail customers, who
may choose among the products for households,
gardens and leisure, whilst MERKURMOJSTER
attends to DIY users, entrepreneurs and craftsmen.
12
At the start of 2007, the Merkur retail network
consisted of 34 sales centres in Slovenia, 8 in
Croatia, and one in the capital city of Serbia. All
Merkur sales centres offer a wide variety of quality
products. When visiting one of the Merkur local
sales centres, customers should be able to find all
items at one place. Bofex, a Merkur subsidiary, sells
goods from another 19 sales centres in Slovenia,
and has specialised in audio and video appliances,
computer hard- and software.
Bofex is the Slovene market leader in that field, and
also plans to enter foreign markets. The Merkur sales
centre network is supplemented by another 21
Merkur franchise outlets in Slovenia, two in Bosnia
and Herzegovina, and the online shopping addresses
at http://nakup.merkur.si, and www.bof.si.
Highly professional staff, quality items sold under
acclaimed brand names, and continuous
introduction of creative items and services make
Merkur a creative and dynamic company. Thanks
to the kind and attentive staff and thoughtful
merchandising, doing the shopping at Merkur
becomes a unique and joyful experience.

Sales to Companies,
Complete Supplies
to Enterprises
Sales to companies provide for complex services to
our customers, who are divided into target groups.
A team of professionals and specially trained
consultants fulfils the requirements of each group.
They master the business process, and control its
every stage, from strategic product inventories,
to optimal sales procedures and rational operations.
New warehousing facilities and equipment have
further strengthened our marketing position
among the largest wholesale dealers in ferrous
and non-ferrous metal products.
We have introduced new services, such as
supplies to processing plants, and processing
reinforcing steel and mats in a technologically
advanced steel-bending plant. Thanks to the
investment in machinery, our metal processing
services have become even prompter and of
higher quality.
The companies may be supplied through three sales
channels. Our business partners may order their
supplies from our wholesale department, central
warehouses, or order goods in transit. Thanks to
the widespread network of MERKURMOJSTER sales
centres and special terms applied in wholesale, the
entrepreneurs and craftsmen can buy everything
they need for work at our sales centres nearest to
their homes, receive free advice, and see the items on
display before taking a decision to buy.

The demanding investments in various kinds of
logistic processes - above all larger warehouses and
modern mechanical equipment - prove that the
Group has been growing substantially and
permanently. In a mere five years, the Group has
increased its warehousing facilities from 100,000 to
230,000 square metres. Not only has Merkur been
building its warehousing capacities in Slovenia, but
it has also developed several steel centres in Croatia,
Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A Look into the Future:
A Growing International Group
Merkur Group intends to pursue its long-term plan
until 2010. The company wishes to remain the
domestic leader in its industry, and further strengthen
its marketing position on the markets of Croatia,
Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Macedonia.
The retail sales will be further enhanced by the newly
built or remodelled sales centres. By 2010, Merkur
aims to open another 6 sales centres on 60,000 square
metres in Slovenia, and pursue even faster growth
in Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina,
where – on 106,000 square metres – another 12 most
modern sales centres are projected. In 2010, Merkur’s
subsidiaries abroad are expected to generate 561
million euro by investing into retail and wholesale
facilities, especially in steel centres. Due to the
intensive expansion beyond Slovenia, sales of foreign
subsidiaries are planned to increase by 150% between
2006 and 2010. However, thanks to the construction
of the new retail sales centres, Merkur’s foreign retail
sales are assumed to grow by more than 300% alone.
This means we are planning gradually to attain a
leading position on selected markets. The company
has already become the market leader in Slovenia.
In the period from 2006 until 2010, however, it aims
to further increase the domestic sales by more than
50%, and generate approximately 890 million euro.
After the completion of heavy investments in the
sales centres and warehousing facilities, Merkur
intends to develop new services, further extend the
assortment of goods, and modernise sales procedures.
Furthermore, the company plans to increase the
quality of work at all company levels. Merkur
endeavours to ensure long-term and competitive
sources of supply. The growth of the business, profit,
and – consequently – return on equity, are well under
control thanks to fulfilment of the company’s vision,
and efficient cost control in Merkur Group. Our future
seems bright: Merkur Group will remain a financially
stable, successful, and rising international business
system.
