TECHNICAL DATASPEC VARITEX WATER-BASED TEXTURED COATING May 2014 NO 1430 v3 Description Varitex is a silica-filled, hi-build, thixotropic flexible waterborne acrylic Recommended Uses • texture. • • • • • • Properties • • • • • • • Limitations • • • Technical Data Varitex is recommended for use on most building materials & substrates, such as concrete, concrete lime blocks, plaster , fibre reinforced cement sheeting, stone and brick, plus interior substrates of plaster, Gib-board, ceilings, feature panels, etc. Varitex finish profile can vary from fine sandy or light textured finish. Varitex spayed in orange peel effect or blob undulation effect. Varitex rolled with wooly roller, then with Goop-loop roller texture. Varitex will assist with covering surface imperfections on new or existing buildings surfaces. Varitex process for external use where weather-proofing system is required incorporates a hi-build waterproofing base or over-lay coating. Varitex is over-coated with Hitchins Nu-clear glaze process for improved protection, resistance to dirt retention and weather resistance. Varitex is a decorative fine uniform textured finish. Varitex is flexible to accommodate structure stresses. Varitex finish range varies from sandy, fine to lumpy profile texture depending on choice and application procedures. Varitex colour range is extensive, we provide near match colours to all brands. Varitex is economical; produces texture by hand roller application. Varitex has very good hiding powers to improve substrate and the overall building finishes. Varitex Nu-clear glazed provides durable weatherproofing, improve resistance of dirt retention and easier to clean finish. Varitex is a hi-build acrylic coating that must be applied to dry surface, in fine weather and must not be caught in changing weather until fully dried. Varitex when sprayed, all non-coated surfaces must be masked out or covered for protection. Expansion joints must be sealed with Formrok 28P and left to cure. Infested surface treated Hitchins Mosskill solution, leave 3 days, suspect existing coating removed and water-blast clean. Leave to fully dry. Prepare and seal all expansion joints with Formrok 28P Mask out joinery, adjacent surfaces and cover-up protection for spray application of the Varitex system. Strip on completion Recommended Primers Sealflex Primer G Sealflex Primer G or Formstik Sealflex Primer/Filler Formwal 623 solvent based. 6m2 per litre 6 -10 m2 per litre 2.5m2 per litre 11 to 15m2 per litre Coating Process When Primer coat is dry, carry out the following process within the Varitex system allowing full drying between coats: • Apply by continental brush or wooly roller Basetex of selected colour to fill all pin holes at 2.5/m2 per litre. • Apply by spray (fine nozzle high pressure) or woolly roller Varitex of selected colour basecoat at 1.5/m2 per litre. • Apply by spray (medium nozzle, lower pressure) or roller Varitex of selected colour topcoat at 1.0/m2 per Litre. • Rolled Varitex whilst wet is textured using a goop-loop roller to the desired texture. • Sprayed textures can vary from fine to spot profile, consumption will vary accordingly. • Strong bright colours acquired by over-coating with Formcote or Formwal, which also provides improved hi-build coating system and weather protection. • Allow the Varitex to completely dry for two days before applying glaze coat if preferred/required. • Full application procedure covered in specification and application instruction documents. Consumption Rates As above given coverage per litre of Varitex is a guide only. Non-Compliance Warning Do not apply or install any Hitchins product or process to building structures that do not comply with the Building Code. Warranty Varitex, as part of a process, is covered under the Hitchins Product Health and Safety Varitex, sealer, top-coats and glazes all waterborne, non-flammable and relatively non-toxic and V.O.C. Wash spills and skin in soapy water. Wear barrier cream, protective clothing, gloves and goggles.
