sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Persecution is a word that we hear, sadly, every day on
the news. The contemporary persecution of Christians
in particular echoes right back to the time in which
Matthew was writing his Gospel for the first Christians,

BOOK OF THE MONTH
A Simple, Life-Changing Prayer
Discovering the Power of St. Ignatius Loyola’s Examen
By Jim Manney
For most people most of
the time, prayer is hard. It is
especially difficult—not to
mention unsatisfying—when
people experience it as formal,
dry, and repetitious. But what
might happen if you discovered
a simple prayer that changed all
that? What if you discovered a
prayer that changed you?
In A Simple, Life-Changing
Prayer, Jim Manney introduces Christians to a 500-yearold form of prayer that dramatically altered his
perception of prayer and the way he prayed. The prayer
is the examen, which St. Ignatius Loyola developed for
the purpose of nurturing a reflective habit of mind that
is constantly attuned to God’s presence.
Available in our bookstore.
SHRINE COMMITTEE FORMATION
The La Salette Shrine attracts many dedicated and
talented people. We wish to use your talents to help
the Shrine grow! Here are some committee’s we’re
developing
ADULT FAITH FORMATION AND EDUCATION
COMMITTEE
The Faith Formation and Education Committee assists
the La Salette Staff in developing programs, classes and
educational opportunities that help people grow in their
faith knowledge, spirituality and as human beings.
THE FAITH IN ACTION COMMITTEE
The Faith in Action Committee assists with the various
charitable and pastoral works of the Shrine. It responds
to local area, national and international needs. It brings
to the Shrine Staff concerns that could be addressed by
the larger Shrine community.
LITURGY COMMITTEE
The Liturgy Committee assists with developing a
reverent and relevant liturgy at the Shrine. It works on
both Masses and special liturgies. It sees that proper
training is done for the committee and various liturgical
ministers.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
The Public Relations Committee will assist the Shrine
staff in seeing that its many events are promoted
throughout the region. It stays on top of the ever
changing world of media and promotion.
COMMUNITY LIFE AND HOSPITALITY
COMMITTEE
The Community Life and Hospitality Committee works
to see that all who come to the shrine feel welcomed,
affirmed and are treated as members of the Body of
Christ. It makes known to the staff ways it could make
all feel welcome at the shrine.
You may have noticed many young people (and some
not so young) wandering around the property looking
at their phones. The Shrine has many official Pokestops for the game Pokemon Go. The object of the
game is to ‘capture’ these creatures, which appear on
your phone at different locations around the Shrine.
We have not had such a great influx of young people
in years. Jesus said, ‘Suffer the little children,’ which is
an invitation for us to be warm and welcoming towards
these visitors. Anything that can give the church and the
Shrine a positive image might bring young people back.
Pokemon is about searching for these creatures, but
in their hearts they might be searching for something
deeper and greater than themselves. If you run into
one of the game players, greet them with a smile and let
them know they are welcome here at the Shrine!
Please call 508-222-5410 to be considered for a
committee.
THE LA SALETTE SISTERS NEED YOUR HELP!
For the past few years, the La Salette Sisters here in
Attleboro have lived as part-time nomads first moving
into the Monastery, then to Cumberland, RI, and now
to the Retreat Center, never really having a place of
their own. We’d like to change that by renovating the
old, white house across the street from the Shrine so
that they can finally have a home and their ministry can
grow.
The renovations have been estimated at close to $100,000
so we’ve begun a drive to help raise the money and we
would greatly appreciate your support! If you’d like to
help the Sisters, checks may be made out to “La Salette
Shrine” and sent to 947 Park St., Attleboro, MA, 02703
with the memo: Sister’s House.

BLUE MASS
September 29, 2016 6:30 PM Mass
We have many people who put their lives on their line
daily to keep us safe. Police, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians respond daily to emergencies.
They need our prayers. We invite all Officers in Blue to
join for this mass and our prayers.
More details to come.
It’s just about that time again! Soon, the fall will be
slowly creeping in and school will be starting up!
5K NUN RUN
During Saturday July 30th through Tuesday, August
2nd, we’ll be collecting new school supplies for children
in the Attleboro Community! Please consider donating backpacks, pencils, rulers, colored pencils, folders,
pens, and notebooks! There will be receptacles for donations in the Church foyer.
On Saturday, September 10 at 8 AM we will have a 5K
run to raise money for the renovation for the sisters’
house. There is a $25 entry fee. Registration starts is
at the La Salette Welcome Center and the run begins at
9 AM.

www.lasaletteatleboroshrine.org.
On August 6, six lay missionaries from the Shrine and
Father Ted will travel to Tijuana, Mexico to build houses
for the poor.
Please pray for Grant Haley, John and Gina Rufo, Mary
Peterson, Stephanie and Samantha DeLaBruere, and
