Auxiliary Update... by Carole Davidson, Sholom Auxiliary President S o far, 2008 has been busy for our Auxiliary. We started out the year with a very successful Ball and are happy to announce that we now have seven endowment funds established for our Auxiliary. Three of them, the Ruth Dicker Sholom Ball Fund, the Joy Marcus Sholom Ball Fund and Bruce Kahn Sholom Ball Fund, directly benefit our annual Sholom Ball. The Mindy and Steve Wexler Communications Fund supports communication costs for the Auxiliary, and an endowment made by Sharon and Marty Kieffer helps us sustain our financial commitment to the beauty shops at both Homes. The John Schletty Fund and the Sholom Auxiliary Fund are both general funds. We hope others will consider making an Auxiliary endowment to support our efforts. May was a very busy month! We participated in the Oy Vey 5K Run/Walk and held our Spring luncheon and installation of new board members at the Adath Jeshurun Synagogue which featured an intergenerational concert performed by Wendy Baldinger. And with Barbara Cohn, we sponsored Mothers’ Day Teas at both Sholom Home West and Sholom Home East! busy making knishes all summer; we sold knishes at the Israeli Scouts concert at Sholom Home West in July – at Sholom Home East during the Minnesota State Fair (our last sale at this location) – and of course for the High Holidays. Our Fall luncheon/fashion show is Tuesday, October 28th at Golden Valley Country Club and our very successful “Sholom for the Holidays” will take place once again on Sunday, December 7th at a new location - Knollwood Place Apartments. Our Ball Chairs, Beth Birke and Sandi Kaster, are busy preparing for our 2009 Sholom Ball which will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Depot in downtown Minneapolis. Our Auxiliary is looking forward to participating in many of the events planned for the opening of the new Shaller Family Sholom Home East campus and the remainder of this Centennial year. As with many organizations, our membership and volunteerism is decreasing each year. We encourage all of you who are not members of our Auxiliary to please consider joining. Our membership dues and other fundraisers help us keep our financial commitment to each of the Homes. Thank you for your continuing support! Sincerely, We are going strong selling our “Food For Show, Food on the Go” cookbooks. Our knish ladies were Coming in 2009! Sholom Foundation presents.....
