Thessaloniki, Greece
Named after Philip of Macedonia’s
daughter, the bustling metropolis of
Thessaloniki is the second largest
city in Greece. Visit the Church of
Agios Dimitrios, a glorious, five-aisled
basilica that is one of the most
important monuments of the early
Christian era and a UNESCO World
Heritage site, and see the 16th-century
White Tower, iconic symbol of the city.
In the Archaeological Museum, view
an astonishing collection of impeccably
crafted gold and silver jewelry dating
from the 6th century B.C.
It was here that Alexander the Great
buried his father, whose death led to the
son’s assumption of the Macedonian
crown and the campaign to conquer Persia.
The discovery of Philip’s Royal Tomb
here in 1977 was one of the greatest
archaeological finds of the 20th century.

It is believed that S

astounding UNESCO World Heritage
site of Meteora—Greek for “suspended
in the air.” High atop soaring natural
sandstone pinnacles formed during
the Tertiary period, 24 holy Orthodox
monasteries were built in the 14th and
15th centuries, some of which continued
their traditions uninterrupted for
hundreds of years. Originally, the only
access to these lofty monasteries was by
way of very long ladders and baskets
suspended on ropes. Today, you will
ascend to them by coach on roads built
along the sandstone slopes overlooking
verdant Peneas Valley. Four of the
monasteries still house active religious
communities atop these heavenly
columns, an impossibly majestic sight.
Kavala/Philippi/Lydia
In the picturesque port of Kavala, see the
15th-century Panagia Castle, built on the
former site of the Byzantine acropolis;
the medieval Old City Walls; and
the Kamares, a well-preserved
16th-century aqueduct constructed by
Süleyman the Magnificent. Nearby, visit
the ancient city of Philippi, named
after Philip of Macedonia, father of
Alexander the Great, and one of the
most important cities during the Roman,
Christian, Byzantine and Ottoman eras.
About 40 B.C. the Battle of Philippi took
place here between the Roman armies of
Brutus and Octavian, bringing about the
end of the Roman democracy. A century
later, Philippi was the first European
city in which St. Paul preached, and
it was here where he was imprisoned.

walk along the original Roman road,
Via Egnatia.
Outside Philippi, along the banks
of the Gangites River, visit the Greek
Orthodox Baptistery of St. Lydia,
where St. Paul baptized the first
European converted to Christianity.

The UNESCO World Heritage site
of Pergamon is one of Turkey’s finest
classical ruins. Visit the Acropolis, one of
the great centres of Hellenism, where the
monumental Library of Pergamon once
stood in the second century B.C. With over
200,000 manuscripts, the library rivaled
its counterpart in Alexandria as the
centre of ancient scholarship. Nearby, see
the foundations of the sanctuaries
of Zeus and Athena; the magnificent
theatre, where audiences once viewed

Pythagoreion, Greece
The ancient and classical Greek capital of
Samos, Pythagoreion today is a UNESCO
World Heritage site and picturesque
port city. In 535 B.C. Pythagoreion was
seized by the tyrant Polyerates, whose
rule produced what the Greek historian
Herodotus described as “the greatest
building and engineering feats in the
Greek world.” Among these is the World
Heritage site of Heraion, or the Temple of
Hera, the largest temple ever built in Greece
and the first Greek temple to be completely
surrounded by a peristyle of columns.
Ephesus, Turkey
The Greco-Roman city of Ephesus,
liberated from Persian rule by Alexander the
Great in 334 B.C., is one of the world’s
most remarkable architectural treasures,
offering an enthralling glimpse into ancient
coastal life. The beautifully restored façade
of the Library of Celsus is awe-inspiring,
and the Marble Way leads to an impressive
24,000-seat amphitheatre where St. Paul
delivered his Epistle to the Ephesians.
According to legend, St. John the Apostle
travelled with Mary, the mother of Jesus, to
Ephesus, where he wrote his Gospel of John
and later died and was buried.
By special arrangement, visit the

prominent families of first-century Ephesus
once lived. Admire the monumental arched
colonnades, well-preserved mosaics and
brightly coulored frescoes of these superbly
crafted residences, rarely seen by today’s

First inhabited around 3000 B.C. and
later fortified with an island citadel
during the Ottoman Empire, Kuşadasi
is today a cosmopolitan resort town
offering sparkling beaches and unique

Pátmos, Greece
The small island of Pátmos and its Greek
Orthodox Monastery of St. John, a
UNESCO World Heritage site, loom large
in the history of Christianity. Built in
1088, the monastery is still inhabited
today by monks who continue to preserve
it as a pilgrimage site and place of
religious study. St. John the Apostle of
Ephesus very possibly wrote the Book of
Revelation on this island in A.D. 95.
Athens
Birthplace of democracy and home to
many of history’s greatest philosophers and
poets from Socrates to Herodotus, Athens
is unmatched in its contributions to early
Western civilization. Today, the ancient
city’s grandeur endures in the spectacular
Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site,
and the perfectly proportioned Parthenon,
a flawless example of Doric architecture
dedicated to the goddess Athena in 438 B.C.
Built into a naturally steep hillside, the spectacular Hellenistic theatre of the Pergamon Acropolis in
Turkey was built with 80 rows of seating that could accommodate up to 10,000 people.

responsible therefor and is not required to compensate passengers under
these circumstances. Gohagan may cancel a trip (or an option) for any
reason whatsoever; if so, its sole responsibility is to refund monies paid
by the participant to it. Gohagan is not required to cancel any trip for
any reason including without limitation, United States Department of
State, World Health Organization or other Warnings or Advisories of
any kind. Gohagan is not responsible for penalties assessed by air carriers
resulting from operational and/or itinerary changes, even if Gohagan
makes the flight arrangements or cancels the trip. Gohagan reserves the
right to substitute vessels, hotels or attractions of a similar category for
those listed in this brochure.
NOT INCLUDED: Taxes; passport, visas and associated fees; personal
expenses such as laundry, telephone calls and Internet access; accident/
sickness, trip cancellation, and baggage insurance; gratuities to ship and
hotel personnel; optional sightseeing excursions; baggage charges on
aircraft; local departure air/airport tax(es); airfare and associated local
taxes, airport facility and security taxes and federal inspection fees not
listed in the “Included Features” section of the brochure; transfers and
baggage handling to/from airport/hotel/ship on day(s) of arrival and/or
departure if you are arriving earlier or later than and/or departing earlier
or later than the scheduled group transfer(s); any overnight on land due
to flight schedule(s); meals, alcoholic or other beverages and all other
services not specifically mentioned in the “Included Features” section.
AIRFARE: Airfare is subject to change and availability and, depending
on the fare basis, likely is nonrefundable. Your airline ticket
constitutes a contract between you and the airline, even if purchased
through Gohagan.
LUGGAGE: Luggage allowance policies are set by the airlines and may
change without prior notice. Please contact your airline(s) for the most
current luggage allowance policy.
PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY: All programs require physical
independence and mobility. Any physical or mental condition that
may require special medical attention or physical assistance (for
example, the need for a wheelchair) must be reported in writing when
you make your reservation. Travellers must be able to embark or
disembark motorcoaches alone or with minimal assistance from your
travelling companion and climb stairs and step over raised thresholds
without assistance. Travellers requiring assistance must travel with a
companion who will be responsible for handling equipment.
DISCOUNTED RESERVATIONS: Discounts apply only to those
reservations received in the offices of Gohagan in writing, accompanied
by the required deposit, by April 30, 2015. In the event a “discounted”
reservation must be cancelled, no “replacement” reservation can be
substituted at the discounted rate. A “replacement” reservation is
a new reservation and can be substituted only at the full-fare tariff.
Cancellation penalties may apply.
CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations for all or any part of the trip including
Pre/Post Program(s) reservation(s) will not be effective until received in
writing in the offices of Gohagan. Should you have to cancel, the following
terms will apply: reservation cancellation(s) are subject to a $200 USD
($50 USD Pre/Post Program(s)) per person administrative fee from the time
of booking through 120 days prior to departure; from 95 through 119 days
prior to departure, $800 USD ($200 USD Pre/Post Program(s)) per person;
from 60 through 94 days prior to departure, 60% of the published full
regular tariffs; cancellations 59 days or less prior to departure, a no-show, or
early return from the trip will result in forfeiture of 100% of the published
full regular tariffs. In addition, any applicable airline cancellation fees,
optional excursion cancellation fees and administrative fees may apply.
EXTENDED CRUISE OPTION CANCELLATIONS: Change and/or
cancellation fees for each travel program apply as outlined in the
“Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Binding Arbitration
Agreement” of the respective travel program brochure.
TRIP INSURANCE: Because our cancellation policies are
strictly enforced, we strongly recommend that you purchase trip
cancellation insurance. In the event that you must cancel your
participation in a travel program, trip cancellation insurance may be the
only source of reimbursement. Trip cancellation insurance is available
through Gohagan and others for comprehensive coverage of such
expenses in conjunction with cancellation due to illness or accident, and
damaged or lost luggage. We will send you an application upon receipt
of your reservation.
RATES: Prices quoted are based on fares in effect at the time of printing
and are subject to change at any time. On land and/or cruise programs,
even after full payment, Gohagan reserves the right to increase the
tour price in the event of cost increases due to changes in supplier
costs, currency fluctuations or fuel or energy surcharges and all such
increases are to be paid to Gohagan upon notice to the tour participant
of such increases. On programs which include Gohagan purchased
interstate or international air (which originates or returns to the United
States), no increased costs will be passed on after final payment except
for subsequently imposed governmental tax increases.

BINDING ARBITRATION: Any controversy or claim arising out of or
relating in any way to this Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk and
Binding Arbitration Agreement, the brochure, or any other information
relating in any way to the trip, or to the trip itself, shall be settled solely
and exclusively by binding arbitration in Chicago, Illinois, in accordance
with the commercial rules of the American Arbitration Association
then existent. In any such proceeding, the substantive, but not procedural
law of Illinois will apply. The arbitrator and not any federal, state, or
local court or agency shall have exclusive authority to resolve any dispute
relating to the interpretation, applicability, enforceability, conscionability,
or formation of this contract, including but not limited to any claim that
all or any part of this contract is void or voidable.
ACCEPTANCE OF CONTRACT: By forwarding of deposit, the
participant certifies that he/she does not have any mental, physical or
other condition of disability that would create a hazard for him/herself
or other participants and accepts the terms contained in this Release of
Liability, Assumption of Risk and Binding Arbitration Agreement.
