Masinloc power plant down; Luzon to experience brownouts
MANILA—Luzon might experience brownouts after a unit of
the Masinloc coal-fired power
plant went down yesterday despite the assurance of the Department of Energy (DoE) that
there will be no brownout.
But the DoE claimed that it
has realigned reserves in the
Luzon grid to assure enough
power supply to avoid power
shortage, but the Luzon grid
can afford any other technical
problems during summer season.
According to DoE, it will
take up to three days to repair
a boiler leak in the plant.
DoE added that the Masinloc power plant’s Unit 2,
which represents an output of
300 megawatts of power, went
down at 7:55 a.m. yesterday.
“Kani-kanina lang kami ay
nakatanggap ng advisory from
the National Grid Corp. of the
a.m.,” said Mylene Capongcol,
Department of Energy Electric
Power Industry Management
Bureau director said during a
radio interview.
Director Capongcol said
that if the situation persists,
this could potentially threaten
the power reserves in Luzon,
which are thinnest between 11
a.m. and 2 p.m.
“Ibig sabihin, matutugunan
she said.
Capongcol assured that
there will be no brown outs
based on an advisory from the
Masinloc power plant despite
the shutdown of its unit 2.
She added, despite the
shutdown of unit 2 of Masinloc
power plant and undergoing
repair for 3 days there will be
no brown out but there will be
slim reserve. •

The visionaries of the apparitions in Garabandal, Spain while looking at the Blessed Mother. The prophecies there belong to our days.
Marian urgency
L
ET me call it that, a Marian
urgency. Almost three decades since I foolishly bet on
when the Apocalypse would start
and, with jest, even ventured a case
of beer if I were right, the world’s
weather has gone awry, but life
seems to go on normally...somewhat.
Yet those of my kind who have
been closely following modernday Marian apparitions now seem
to converge at a point of agreement these days. The crescendo
is reaching the aerie. The world is
somewhere in the start line and
traditional go pistol has been fired.
Mankind is onrushing to a finish
line.
Take it or leave it. But the point
of my new crusade to spread the
messages of Marian apparitions of
our days is for readers to take the
messages seriously. The messages
are appeals that warn of a chastisement for mankind, but they are addressed to you and me.
There are at least three recent
Marian events that interweave the
final calls and warnings from Heaven, via the Blessed Mother Mary:
her apparitions in Garabandal,
Spain in the 1960s, in Akita, Japan
starting 1972, and in Medjugorje
which started in 1981 and have continued to the present.
In Garabandal, the apparitions
to four girls were at the level of
the sensational: Conchita, Jacinta,
Mari Loli, and Mari Cruz would
fall into ecstasy, walk on air, bend
against gravity, lift each other as if
they weighed a feather during apparitions, among other phenomena that could only be described
as supernatural. They received the
Eucharist directly from Michael
the Archangel, and at one time, as
announced 15 days previously, the
Host suddenly appeared on the
tongue of Conchita, and this was
witnessed by many.
All the girls, except for Marl Loli
who passed on in 2009, have lived
exemplary lives, are now married
with children who are now adults.
Conchita, who had wanted to be a
nun, said that Jesus Himself had
told her He wanted a married life
for her.
Garabandal is seriously considered because its authenticity was
confirmed by St. Padre Pio, Mother
Teresa, and then Pope Paul VI.
The prophecies of Garabandal
comprise three events. The first
two are for conversion consisting
of a WARNING and a MIRACLE.
The third, a conditional one, is an
UNPRECEDENTED CHASTISEMENT, if the warning and the miracle would not convert mankind.
The WARNING. The seers said
it would first start in the air as if
two comets collided. Then the entire world, including machines and
computers, would be held in suspension. This would be followed
by penetration of the conscience
of every man without exception
in every corner of the world. Each
would see himself as God sees his
soul. The event itself would not
cause physical harm, though its impact could lead to heart attacks.
The MIRACLE. This would happen within a year after the warning.
The visionaries said there would be
no doubt that this miracle, which
would happen at a place called
the pines in Garabandal, would
be God’s handiwork and would be
there until the end of the world. It
could be televised, but could not be
touched, they said.
For the CHASTISEMENT, no
apparition could be more detailed
than in Akita, Japan where the Marian and other miraculous events,
such as the weeping of the wooden
statue of Mary which happened 101
times, were approved as worthy of
belief by the Vatican.
There, the Blessed Mother appeared to Sister Agnes Sasagawa
and said as follows:
“If men do not repent and better
themselves, the Father will inflict a
terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater
than the deluge, such as one will
never have seen before. Fire will
fall from the sky and will wipe out
a great part of humanity, the good
as well as the bad, sparing neither
priests nor faithful. The survivors
will find themselves so desolate
that they will envy the dead. The
only arms which will remain for
you will be the Rosary and the Sign
left by My Son. Each day recite the
prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops
and priests.
“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a
way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against
bishops. The priests who venerate
me will be scorned and opposed
by their confreres (other priests);
churches and altars will be sacked;
the Church will be full of those who
accept compromises and the demon
will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of
the Lord.
“The demon will be especially
implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss
of so many souls is the cause of my
sadness. If sins increase in number
and gravity, there will be no longer
pardon for them.”
Fastforward: Medjugorje in Bosnia-Hercegovina (former Yugloslavia). Since 1981, the Blessed Virgin
Mary has been appearing to five
children who are now adults, all
married with children who are now
also adults.
Medjugorje has converted millions who have been there amid unexplainable miracles, phenomena
that scientists had carefully studied
with the most modern instruments
to find themselves baffled and even
being converted.
There, the Blessed Mother has
also disclosed to some of the visionaries a total of 10 secrets that seem
to confirm Garabandal and Akita: a
warning, a miracle, and a chastisement.
Quite interestingly, some the
Medjugorje visionaries were, at one
time, physically taken by the Blessed Mother to Heaven, Purgatory
and Hell. If I remember right, two
of the visionaries declined visiting
Hell. These episodes were meant to
affirm the existence of the afterlife,
as the Blessed Mother also once
emphatically stressed there that
“God exists.”
Apart from Mary’s repeated appeals for prayers, fasting, sacrifices,
love of God and neighbor, etc., the
Garabandal apparitions also give us
strong hints of when the prophetic
warning, miracle and conditional
chastisement.
Having had a vision of the chastisement, one visionary, who by
then already had young children,
said she preferred her children
taken to Heaven before the chastisement, but the Blessed Mother
remarked that the children would
be adults by then.
All the children of the Medjugorje are now adults. Most of the
visionaries, on the other hand, are
in their late 50s.
We belong to their time. •

‘Lent’
M
Y niece asked me what
my idea of lent is. I
wrote this piece to answer her question. She would
read this for sure.
We understand everything
by comparison. We’re only as
fortunate as we were once without, we’re only as good as we
are better than so-and-so, the
day is only as bright as the night
was dark — you know how it
goes. What makes things spectacular is that they were accomplished against all odds… That
we came from somewhere else into where
we are now. But too often, we get wrapped up
in what we’re still not
and need to become,
and lose sight of what
we used to be. But it is
contrast and comparison that make gratitude
possible.
It’s easy to forget that we’re
never really the same person
for long. We re-generate, we
change. The parts of us that are
constructed, that we have created for other people to define
and consume, can shift. But of
course, the essence of who we
are is unchanging. The bits and
pieces that we allow to rise to
the surface we put labels and
meaning to, can change. The
“I” we identify with can do this,
because the voice in our minds
isn’t as real as the person who is
hearing it.
I think we all like to put the
people we were a year or two or
five years ago in the shoes of the
people we are now. We all like to
imagine knowing then what we

It’s a trite saying by now,
but we know that the only unchanging thing is that things
will always be changing. The
problem, however, is that that
fact sits on the surface, when
the unchanging parts we seek
are beneath.
It’s not that we should be

May
masisipag at mahilig maghanapbuhay?

Lent is the time when we are most especially
called to reflect on our own lives and ask
ourselves, how much do we thirst for an
intimate relationship with our loving Jesus
who is just waiting for us to respond to His
love? It is the time that we must deeply ponder how much we thirst for a life that is lifegiving to others?
And if we wish to be loved, give love a
chance by constantly and consistently being yourself.

B
IANCA Lapuz’s parents are both proud
to have a daughter
outstanding in the field of
entertainment.
We met the parents at
last year’s proceedings and we can
only surmise, they
have a lot thing
to do with their
daughter’s victory
to become part of
the elite group of
the contest.
Mula sa wardrobe hanggang sa
song choice, pati
yung coordination
support to her.
“Kung ano po ang ambisyon ng mga anak namin,
sinusuportahan
namin,”
sabi pa ni Aries who himself
has been in the acting scene
for a few years already. Si
Aries is a part time actor
and a full time father to his
kids. “Basta ang lagi lang
naming pangaral ni misis
sa mga anak namin, priority
ang studies nila, susuportahan naming sila, pero dapat
ipagmalaki rin namin sila
pagdating sa educational attainment,” sabi pa ni Aries.
At pagdating nga sa linya
ng edukasyon, outstanding
din naman si Bianca who
also gives ample
time sa kanyang
pag-aaral no matter how busy she
is.
Sabi niya, she
is dreaming to
become a citizen
of the the national scene kaya
nga ngayon, she
is getting ready
for the big league.
Already,
there
are negotiations for her in
other big projects, and it is
only a matter of time, Bianca will realize her dream.
“Babalitaan
po
namin
kayo,”pangako pa niya sa
amin.
As of now, impending din
yung isang international
project which would bring
Bianca to Bali, Indonesia,
Australia and China. This
means, Bianca is also eyeing
the global scene.
Kate Lapuz is another
daughter who is already getting ready for the big time.
At fifteen, she is already a
co-host of German Moreno
sa Walang Tulugan of GMA
7. “Malaking bagay sa kanya yung binibigay ni Kuya
Germs, madami siyang natutunan,” say ni Aries who’s
extra proud dahil nakikita
niya ang fruit of the labor
he and his wife are giving to
their other daughter. “Nakatutuwa, nagustuhan naman siya at sa ngayon may
mga deals na kami sa mga
projects niya.”
Sa ngayon, Kate is being considered for a role in
a GMA soap and when this
materializes, Kate is joining
the short list of wannabes of
GMA 7.
Very recently Kate Lapuz
is an awardee as an outstanding future television
star at the teen section of the
Dangal Ng Bayan which she
received at the AFP Theater.
“Malaki ang pasasalamat
namin and they supporting
Kate, we hope this would
help in the realization of
Kate’s dreams to make it big
like her sister Bianca.”•

Yasmien Kurdi
during her last
medical check up. “I was
wondering kasi bakit laging
akong parang paos,” sabi pa
niya.
“Hirap na hirap akong
kumanta at magsalita. ‘Yun
pag tinanggal ngayon, one
month daw akong hindi puwede mag-talk. Paano ‘yun,
extended pa naman ang
‘Rhodora X’. Di hindi na
ako puwede mag-taping? E,
very important ‘yung role
ko sa story as Angela.”
So what will she do? “I
guess I just have to wait na
matapos ang show.”
But as it is, mahirap talaga lalo sa mga eksenang
I really love
singing dahil ‘yan ang first
love ko. Balak ko ngang
mag-recording uli. E, sabi
Nakakatakot.”
Yasmien is proud that it’s
not only title-roler Jennylyn Mercado who’s getting
good feedback in “Rhodora
X” but also her as Angela.
“Siyempre, mas demanding ang role niya
dahil siya ang title role at
iba’t iba pang personalities niya. Pero marami rin
namang nakakagusto sa
interpretation ko kay Angela. Pareho naman kaming bida-kontrabida ang
role. Hindi kami black or
white dito. Pareho kaming
gray characters kaya mas
challenging. Mas naging
complicated ang story kasi
nakipagkalas na ako kay
Mark Anthony Fernandez
as Nico, pero ayaw niyang
pumayag. Kinidnap ako at
ang anak ni Rhodora, pero
pinatakas kami ng brother
niyang si Ken Chan. Natanggap ko nang may personality disorder talaga
si Jennylyn as Rhodora at
nagkasundo na kami uling magkapatid. Pero dahil
naghalikan kami ni Mark
Herras as Joaquin, nagalit
si Rhodora at nabuhay uli
ang evil alter ego niyang si
Roxanne.”•
yon kay Derek Ramsay, given the chance, willing and excited din
daw siya na gumanap bilang gay and in fact, sa kanya raw unang
in-offer ’yung “In My Life” noon starring Luis Manzano, John Lloyd
Of course, wala namang qualms si Derek
on doing love scenes and baring some skin at
far can she go.
Ayon kay Derek ay excited siyang makasama
for the first time si Marian. Nagkasama raw sila
status nito.
Isa pang naka-line-up daw
kay Derek sa Regal Films ay
a movie with his ex-girlfriend
Solenn Heussaff at ang first
reaction ng aktor tungkol dito
ay “that would be really, really cool.”
Ayon kay Derek, Solenn
is proving herself a lot, talented actress daw ito at
gumagaling na ring magTagalog.
“Nakikita ko ’yung
effort niya para maging
fluent sa Tagalog. So,
kung pelikula with Solenn, yeah, I’d love to do
that,” he said.
“You don’t know what the future holds but
I think, she’s very happy in her relationship.
Looks like she’s walking down that aisle
very soon. I can see it, I know Solenn. She’s
a loving girl and I know when she’s in love
and she’s very much so in love,” say pa ni
Derek. •

The governor was accompanied by
Mayor Roy Manalastas and Philhealth
Pampanga Branch Manager Henry Almanon in four separate venues in this
town.
Almanon said this program is a
clear manifestation of the government’s continuous caring for the poor
by making primary health care effectively reach the indigents through
various services of DOH, LGUs and
PhilHealth through its TSeKaP or Tamang Serbisyo para sa Kalusugan ng
Pamilya.”
For the record, Philhealth together
with the Provincial Government has
reached not less than 41,356 indigent
residents in the City of San Fernando,
2000; municipality of Sta Ana, 3,662;
San Luis, 6,063; Lubao, 7,000; Bacolor,
3,195; Sta Rita, 2,827; Guagua, 6,343;
Sasmuan, 2,666 and Apalit, 10,600.
Aside from this, Governor Pineda
also mentioned that non-Philhealth
members can avail of its services
through Philhealth’s “Point of care
program”.
Point of care is a health program
wherein the poor patients who are
non-Philhealth members, admitted in
government hospitals like in Jose B.
Lingad Regional Memorial hospital
and in the 11 district hospitals may also
avail the services of Philhealth.
“Iyong mahirap na walang Philhealth na naospital ay kailangang pumunta sa Kapitolyo para mabayaran
ang kanyang Philhealth membership
na P2,400 para ma-avail niya ang serbisyo at matulungan siya ng kapitolyo
at ng Philhealth,” Pineda said.
The governor said the provincial
government allotted some P10-million
for the “point of care” program of the
DOH and the Philhealth. •
Ombusman Morales also ordered dismissed from service Salonga, Agregado, and Sanqui aside
from absolute disqualification from

Millan, Cajudo, Coscolluela, Cruz,
Del Rosario, Estanislao, Lorenzana,

They were, however, each ordered to pay a fine equivalent to

The price of fuel does not only affect motorists but
