Septodont’s unique innovative mix
of monomers resulting in PolymerInduced Phase Separation (PIPS). PIPS
significantly reduces the shrinkage effect
of N’Durance® resin, therefore delivering
a composite with lower shrinkage values
than conventional dimethacrylate systems.

With one of the lowest volumetric shrinkage on the market N’Durance® places less stress on
the tooth-restoration interface and has improved durability. It also has the highest intra-oral
monomer conversion available (75%), optimising physical and mechanical properties and
reducing elution of residual monomer.
Less Shrinkage > better marginal integrity and less microleakage
Before
More convenience > compatible with commonly used bonding agents
N’Durance® is compatible with all bonding agents, is non-sticky and easy to handle and is extremely
hydrophobic. Its superior radio-opacity and compressive strength of 319 MPa means posterior
restorations will also be long-lasting.

Low Shrinkage Stress
More monomer conversion > increased mechanical properties and biocompatibility
More radio-opacity > easier control and follow-up
N’Durance® has one of the lowest shrinkage
ratios, resulting in less stress on the
tooth restoration interface, thus less
risk of bonding failure.

N’Durance® shows one of the lowest
shrinkage stress values, resulting in the
development of very little stress on the
bonding interface with the tooth, thus
reducing risk of micro-leakage.

Biodentine™ Q&A

Q. What is Biodentine™?
A. Biodentine™ is a groundbreaking new technology
“I was shown Biodentine at an opportune moment as my wife was
complaining of pain from a cracked tooth. I had been introduced to this
product by a dental representative, who showed me evidence to
support its use. My wife’s cracked tooth had its restoration removed
and Biodentine placed. Since that moment she has had no symptoms
from that tooth and the tooth can be crowned with the assurance that
further symptoms are very unlikely. I have continued to use Biodentine.
based on 10 years of research and development in
Septodont laboratories. Described as ‘dentine in a
capsule’ it is the first all-in-one, biocompatible and
bioactive material that can be used wherever dentine
is damaged, both in the crown and the root.
Q. What can Biodentine be used for?
A. Biodentine™ can be used for both endodontic and

Q. What are the main benefits for Biodentine™ over
“I have used Biodentine for a very deep cavity in a lower second molar
as a last attempt on a patient who I knew would be a far
from ideal candidate for endo. “It worked a treat”
The tooth has been symptomless ever since.”

other products out there?
A. There is no other product like Biodentine™ out
there. Biodentine™ is as close to human dentine
as has yet been developed. Unlike other products
on the market, Biodentine™ is 100% mineral and
it closely mimics the properties of dentine. Highly
biocompatible, thanks to its Tricalcium Silicate
core, Biodentine™ makes the risk of adverse tissue
response a thing of the past. It also helps preserve
pulp vitality by promoting reactionary dentine genesis
and has outstanding sealing properties to reduce the
risk of clinical failures through bacterial percolation,
thus ensuring the absence of post-operative sensitivity.
Biodentine™ also needs no surface conditioning or
bonding and sets quickly, making it simple and easy
to use for the busy clinician.
Pre-operatory x-ray
Biodentine is definitely a material I will continue to use
and recommend as a valuable addition to the practice.”
restorative indications, basically wherever dentine has
been lost or damaged. It can be used to treat multiple
conditions that dentists come across in their every day
practice such as:
• Permanent dentine restorations
• Pulpotomies
• Apexification
• Pulp exposure
• Perforations
• Internal/External Resorptions
• Apical surgery

Q. Is there any clinical data to prove the efficacy of
“A young patient presented with recurrent caries in an upper first molar.
This extended to near the pulp, using Biodentine successfully avoided
root canal therapy and the tooth remains vital and trouble free to date”

in clinical studies since 2005 and more than 12
publications and communications about the product.
Q. Isn’t Septodont just a manufacturer of local
anaesthetics?
A. No. Septodont is the global leader in the
manufacture of local anaesthetics, but this is just
one part of the company’s extensive business.
Septodont is highly committed to pioneering and
innovative research and development, not just in the
field of anaesthetics, but in every aspect of cuttingedge dentistry. Biodentine™ is its latest groundbreaking development and customers can rest assured
that the same high level of quality, safety and ethics
has gone in to developing this as with all Septodont’s
other market leading products.
“An 18 year old patient presented at my practice with deep distal
caries on a vital upper second molar tooth, and was returning to
university three days later.
Placement of BiodentineTM used
for direct pulp capping
BiodentineTM is used as a bulk
filling material and kept as a
dentine substitute
An x-ray showed the caries as being very close to the pulp, and
I was concerned about a carious exposure in this young patient.
I removed as much of the caries as I felt practicable, without
exposing the nerve, and placed Biodentine in the cavity, and saw
the patient again at her next term holiday, two months later.
3-year follow-up x-ray
The tooth had remained symptom-free, and I was able to place
a definitive restoration over the Biodentine, which was left as a base
in the cavity I know of no other material which would have resulted in
such a satisfactory outcome for my patient. ”
